Uploading higher quality songs
|
I was wondering if its okay to upload higher quality versions of songs on the database. Often times I find songs that are 128kbps or sometimes lower (if they are in VBR for example) and I sometimes have higher quality versions of them. Can I upload the higher quality versions? I currently have pending a higher quality version of Musoka (alternate name Musouka). The one on here is 137kbps (VBR) which sounds rather awful as I can hear many problems in it. 128kbps isn't especially great either. I personally think the minimum should be raised to 192kbps as there is a big jump there and the difference between 192 and 320 is much less than the difference between 128 and 320 in terms of audio quality. Edit: While I mention it. Can anyone find the official spelling of this song? I have seen it Musoka, Musouka, and Musou Uta. The kanji is 夢想æŒ. |

VBR > CBR for a lot of reasons. One being that VBR can take care of complex sounds keeping highs at a tolerable level, keeping mids complex, and keeping lows relatively low. With 320kpbs CBR, highs tend to get out of control and lows come out too high. VBR gives you the lossless feel while CBR gives one flat line. If you see VBR tracks as having 'low' bitrates, you're probably not watching the rate-change while you're listening to the song. But I guess it's up to you for what ever bitrate you like. As for raising the minimum, while it's a good idea, it still raises the filesize and not everyone here has something faster than dial-up. That and it's extra bandwidth. :P And for your Kanji question, it should be 'Musou Uta'. |

I am guessing my 137 I have is the average bitrate. I think you are confusing what VBR is. For CBR, if you have a complex area it will get shrunk down to fit the bitrate. If you have a simple area it gets left pretty much as is and the extra bitrate is wasted. Low sounds don't become "high" just because you are using CBR. I know the advantages of VBR which is why the sample I uploaded is 320kbps (VBR), encoded from the lossless version, which I might add is still pending. |
