The worst anime dubbing of all time?
Link | by Shishio (Midwest KI) on 2006-05-18 23:15:59
This thread is just for fun. I don't want to hurt feelings, but I'm sure everyone has seen atrocious dubbing. Keep in mind dubbing is a responsibility of the actors AND japanese-to-english writers. And no dubbing was worse than Street fighter alpha: generations. I saw it at a national tournamnet (EVO) with like 200 people, and I had never laughed that much in my whole life. Now the actors were bad enough, but get this- Ryu's spittin game (flirting) with this girl, and out of nowhere she says,"Ryu, may I borrow your bucket?" There was so much laughter you couldn't hear the movie, and then he busts out this, um, ****-shaped bucket! WTF? And then when he's talking about when Akuma visited him as a child, it sounds like he's giving testamony at an assault trial! "Those big hands oh the big hands". Laugh-out-loud hilarity. And the WORST LINE EVER- "This karma is bad karma indeed" WTF? It really proves dubbing is a responsibility of the actors AND the writers. Oh and the Kenshin movies had bad dubbing too.

"Right...or left?" "Left!" "He parried it!" "Amakakuru Ryu-No Hiro Meki has been broken!" "Gaaah!" "The final secret sword..the Kagezuchi!"

Gotta agree with you Shishio about Kenshin. I haven't seen Street Fighter Alpha: Generations so I can't say anything about that...
But the worst for me?
One Piece. They practically took out all the blood! And the voices are HORRIBLE!

Pokemon is horrible... and so is Inuyasha. But most people have learned to cope..

Fushigi Yuugi on Animax(Philippines). There is something wrong with how they say each other's name. And the voice actors/actresses speak in a somewhat strange accent (they speak English but they do not sound like it, and they don't sound sincere (they should sound sincere, they are actors afterall)).

For me, I think it was Bakuten Shoot Beyblade (or Beyblade, as it was dubbed) and Cardcaptor Sakura dubbed by Nelvana. I just thought it was terrible how they changed a lot of names. Another one would be Naruto for me; they took out the blood and the voices just didn't seem to match the intensity of the actions of the anime characters.

Then again, it kind of depends on how you watch them, right? If a person never saw the original, Japanese version of the anime or read the manga, then they might be satisfied with the dubbing. When I first saw Inuyasha, I thought it was kind of bad, but in the later seasons, I thought the actors really improved, yet I never saw the Japanese version.

4KIDS dubbing One Piece... I'll never forgive them or anyone who supports them for this!

90% of the dubbing I have cared to hear or try are teribble and lacking in emotion or character. However the worst I've seen is Digimon. Why is it that they can't get better voice actors?

Naruto's dubbing sucks badly.
Pokemon's was pretty bad but the worst was DBZ.
They couldn't even commit to one set of crap voice actors so they used about two or three...

For me Kino's Journey (Kino no Tabi) had the worst dubbing ever, I had to force myself to watch it.

Yami no Matsuei's dub is horrible. The Gushoshin sound like dirty old men. Ayashi no Ceres dub is bad too.

With no debate, One Piece. Man how could they do that to Sanji!! He sounds like he has something stuck in his throat 24/7!! And Luffy too! Pokemon dubbing gave me headaches as well!! Tokyo Mew Mew was also not so pleasant either. I do think that Fruits Basket has one of the best dubbing.

I liked the DBZ dubbing, especially Vegeta. The Japanese voices were good but not as good as ours. Good exemple of Vegeta: "Do you hear me Kakarot?!! YOU'RE FINIIIISHED!!!" Awesome...

Bad dubbing, its gotta be the anime I'm watching now Detective Conan. It has so much bad grammer I litterally fell off my couch laughing at the nouns and verbs used the wrong way.

In defense of DBZ, it has a GREAT Dubbing to spanish language (the mexican people are really good at dubbing). I liked all voices.

But I saw sometime ago (and unfortunately heard) one or two episodes of One Piece in english dub, and I think it sucks. Too bad 'cause I kinda like that anime... sorry but that's the way it is.

I remember the "safe" DBZ english Dub, where Tien was all, "Look, they are OK! I can see their parachutes!", after these guys in copter got blown away in the blink of an eye. And of course (lol) there were no parachutes...

Naruto all the way. I started watching the japanese and then I heard the english and I almost barfed.

I think funimation is pretty good with dubs out of most american dubbing-anime copaines so I'm not gonna get at them (fullmetal alchemist and yu yu hakusho probably the best dubs I've heard). One piece definetly was the worst dub ever they had to ruin something so good. Only problems I have with the naruto dub is that Naruto hasn't seemed to mature yet like he's supposed to at the exam, and I think Kakashi's voice is a little to lax (If they make it to episode 101 its gonna be horrible), and they cant pronounce Orochimaru. It's Oro-chi-maru not O-rochi-maru.
