Me too. I always wondered that... I smelled one once I think... It smelled like a rose but I didn't exactly get a strong sense of smell so I might be wrong. |

It's very very light.. you'd have to get a bunch of them to smell their fragrance. Even if there is a breeze blowing through them, it's hard to discern the scent. They are much more worth the view than the scent. :) |

@lady maia They smell good, but it's so faint that it's just not worth the trouble to try to smell it... if that makes sense. o_O They are definitely a flower worth VIEWING, but if you want to smell a nice flower, stick with roses, LOL. Hanami season is around the end of April in Tokyo... weather moves North through Japan, so the southern provinces will get sakura before the northern provinces. |

Yes there are sakura in many other parts of the world, but Japanese sakura doesn't actually grow cherries.. if anyone wanted to know. o_o |

@wisteria: oohh... I like those kind of flowers, that's why I hate Roses hehehe ^^' wait... when you said "Japanese Sakura doesn't actually grow cherries" so, does this mean that OTHER Cherry Blossoms grow Cherries? Why is it even called Cherry Blossoms anyway? hehehe<-- curious girl, sorry... *insert epic picture here* |

They probably have some tiny, bland-tasting fruit for making seeds. |

@rainy_cloud and atemu_mana : FireFox have some trouble in hyperlinking (i dont know). he/she (rainy cloud) use the target=_blank option to open it in new window, but unfortunately, firefox just read the link in by follow master (gendou.com) host... (even in front of that link you have typ "http:\www.yourhost.whatever/your_host". in another browsers as long as i know did'nt have this problem... for a sakura hana... I never smell it... may be the smell is good ? (?_?)

@RIN No no, it's the faintest flower scent ever! I mean.. you need to take like a bunch from a branch to smell deeply of it.. and when the wind blows through them, there are more petals than the scent blown with it.... It's just not a scentful flower at all. All for show! The scent of a sakura is something people shouldn't rack their brains over, LOL. It's that.. insignificant. That's why the Japanese usually describe it as æ·¡ã„香り (awai kaori). |
