Geta are very very firm on your feet.. it's wood, and surprise surprise, after being on them for a few hours you feel like you've been walking on a balancing beam all day.. it's not hard to walk in, it's just they are so rigid and do not conform to the curve of your feet. I think women's geta nowadays have a bit more fashionable heel to go with the traditional two pieces that give you lift on the bottom. But still, they are not ideal walking shoes. No wonder people only wear them in the summer. |

Please refer to my post for comfort quality. :) But seriously, if you are buying them and are going to Japan soon.. don't? Because young people absolutely NEVER wear them save for in the summer, and even then girls wear them more than boys, because girls wear yukata more. Men aren't really into yukata and if they do wear them it's because their girlfriend made them or he and a group a friends decided to do so. And even then wearing geta/yukata is limited to night outings like hanabi or matsuri or summer dates. Sometimes women will wear their summer geta with jeans, but that's the only cross-over to modern-day wear I have seen in young people. You'll only see ojii-san wearing geta or zori.. or even if they are wearing traditional casual clothing, they might even be wearing sports sandals or birkenstocks. |

The top pair will be more comfortable for most people, but they are kinda girly looking.... Geta are NOT comfortable.. though I supposed you could get used to them. I don't want to. |

agree with eiko, top one more comfortable but mostly girl uses it, one advantage of wooden sandals is waterproof so can be use around water area (bathroom, spa, etc) |
