Ok, I watched nearly every episode on AS and I bought a DVD set of the same types of episodes. After seeing them all again, I went online to try and find an original japanesse version episode. I found what I was looking for and I ended up watching episode 22, the one where Auska is attacked mentally by Areal (I think). When I watched it though, I saw scenes cut from the American version, some which might of helped viewers understand the plot better. So I ask, what happened during the Japanesse to America transition that ended with these scenes being cut? |

Good question, I guess you could say somethings got lost in translation? Or, maybe just the standards [as] had to adhear to just to get it on air? I honestly have no idea. Have you seen the movie?

yeah, same here in the philippines... that's why it's better to watch the original japanese version than those of the dubbed ones... they always cut the important and essential part to understand the show.. |

Yes, I did see the movies (in english) Jade. I can see why they might cut somethings out to get it on the air, like the destrution of Unit 00 is different and I can see why they may of cut that, but the other scenes I saw no reason to cut. I guess I'll have to watch the entire thing over again online. :( |

Rin, most of the deleted things are near the end, try episodes 22-24. Paper, it isn't completely ruined, but does anyone know any others what had a bad transition from there to here? |

Uh... guys, while I'm sure that Evangelion was censored to some effect when it aired on Cartoon Network, I assure you that the DVDs released by ADV are in no different from their Japanese counterparts. The incidents described in the preceding posts, most easily noted among them being Asuka's extended introversion sequence when the angel tries to communicate with her, the more graphic depiction of Unit 00 being invaded by an angel and the subsequent EOE-evoking detonation sequence, and various other bits and pieces you may have noticed are not indicitive of an edit made during the english distribution process, but rather, are examples of additional footage that has since been added to the series as an effort to help tie it into the movie. The footage in question was released as a special edition dvd set, which ADV did translate and release as the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platnum Edition dvd set. |

we already know that the episodes on DVD are uncut thats obvious already usually, when anime is brought over from japan to america, or somewhere else, it is edited to an extent like scenes being cut entirely, or just certain parts airbrushed |

The EoE movie hasn't aired on [as], and I don't think it ever will. Cutting too many sceans from a movie or from a series can prove to be very detrimental to both, but that's just common sense IMO. So, is it safe to expect edits from one language to another? Yes, but I don't like the additional edits that are done so that they can fit in to a particular ratting, or just the same, appeal to a particular demographic... on a block.

Agreed. Amine (American Animation) can cut these things out but give 'em credit atleast, they're trying there best. Plus I watch 'em so it's ok atleat! XD ------- |
