after hear KOF 2006 is KOF maximum impact 2..I feel really hurt/dissapoint..I mean after all the time I play the this series and they try to change to sometin...3d.

I prefer 2d game because what important for me is battle system, chain combo, killer or super moves..about graphic, i put it second..Right now my favourite 2D fighting game is:

King of Fighter series(and SNK fighting game series)
Guilty gear
Melty blood
last but not least, street fighter(because their animation graphic)

I AGREE
Im another 2D fighter fan. I own all the street fighters. Most of the KOF series.
in my opinion 2D fighters are better than 3D. 2D fighters seem faster when you play them.

2D games
There are tons of 2D fighters, shmup and rpg that won't be released over in the US due to the fact that sony of america doesn't like 2d games.

I don't really see how changing it from 2D to 3D has an effect on it's playability or gameplay at any scale. Mortal Kombat made the switch a while ago, and it's still just as good as it was, if not better.

Both fighter types are fun, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. You can't have a perfect fighter that embodies all the strengths, so you have to appreciate the qaulities of both, especially when you get the rare chance to see a 2D fighter in 3D.

@ Himeko- You're right. 3D fighters tend to move at 60 frames a second, and 2D at 40 frames per second, but 2D games use less frames per move. So they (2D games) are a little faster in the sense that more does happen per second.

@ Daedalus- Also, besides the speed, 3D games go for more realism, which is good, but tend to take away the "crazy" and unrealistic elements of 2D games that make them fun. Therefore 2D has a major difference for hardcore fighting fans, casual gamers won't notice a difference but it's the same if you compare different titles in any genre. For example players of Ghost Recon will tend to say Halo is weak or cheap, and Halo players say the same about Ghost Recon or Medal of Honor. And I say all FPSs kind of suck.

@ Arcshiki- KoF will only be 3D for one year every now and then, and XI is going to be good for a long time( have you seen those videos I told you about yet?). I can't wait for the new 3D KoF, the last one was so fun.

I found that many 2d fighting games tend to amuse me more. Many 2d fighting games have this "free" feeling in controlling the players, like for example the earlier VS series (marvel vs capcom etc...) and naruto narutimate hero...

While for 3d fighting games, most that i played has this difficult control for the characters... But some are still cool of course, like ps1's Ergheiz(spelling?), bloody roar, and then ps2's soul calibur and tekken...
