Ep: Someday in the Rain (Suzumiya Haruhi) Spolier
|
Hi folks, Don't get me wrong. I love "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". But in episode "Someday in the Rain", they spend about 6 or 7 minutes showing Yuki reading in the clud room with the radio playing some sort of spelling programme. What is it all about? Does it relate to the story or is it something that is for for Japanese please? |

The radio is playing some standard Japanese pronunciation drills at first. But then the voice actors begin doing bits that parody lines from some well known anime series, spoof characters that they themselves played in other anime, and just have a little fun in general. It isn't something that would translate well without an awful lot of reference notes, and a person would have to be very familiar with anime and Japanese popular culture to make much sense of it anyway. Sort of like trying to figure out Pani Poni Dash! without any visual clues. |

Personally, I think that that episode (which is the last episode in the chronological order) puts a theme of an everyday life for each of the members and how things go on normally (or as normal as they can get with Haruhi). For Kyon, it was being bossed around. For Mikuru, it was constantly getting abused by Haruhi. For Ituski, it's just following Haruhi around to see what insanity she comes up with. For Yuki, it's just like that scene - all the insanity that Haruhi and the SOS Brigade causes are pretty much just white noise to her. She notices, watches and makes note, but that's pretty much it - as long as it doesn't involve her, she doesn't do anything. |

Yamatokage, thanks for the clarification. that is very helpful. Sir Bon, that is an "interesting way" of interpretating the episode. Thanks. |
