Obscure Yoko Kanno?
|
Im looking for some good Yoko Kanno songs that are a bit more obscure. I dont want to hear anyone yelling "Real Folk Blues" at my face, in other words. Backround music is more the kind of thing Im looking for. Extra credit for Blues-y and/or jazz-y stuff. I dont feel like downloading 4 pages of songs to find the 10 or so I need. Im not looking for any song in particular, just some to fill up some space and showcase Kanno's skill/ability/genius/range, however you want to put it. Thanks in advance. |

Waltz for Zizi not that obscure, but that's one of my top favorite song from her. It's very calming for me. |

I'm not quite sure what you mean by obscure...but maybe you should try songs from Arjuna and Wolf's Rain... |

Feel the Circle is a good piano piece, but not hosted on this site. I don't know where it is from, but if you request it, I can hsot it. Aside from that, some good, different pieces are: -Piano Black (CB) -Cream (GITS) -Fish ~ Silent Cruise (GITS) -Sora (Esca) These are not necessarily obscure, but keep in mind that good music is rarely obscure. |

Pyrric Victory "Feel the Circle"? Sounds good. Even better since its a piano piece. Ill request it, if your offer still stands. I realize obscure was a bad word for it, but for lack of a better word, it gets across the idea of "Not Real Folk Blues" kinda thing. Nothing wrong with such well known pieces, but I all ready know them, so "obscure" was what I went with. Thanks once again everyone, keep 'em coming. |

Well, I would recommend "Friends" from Wolf's Rain. It's a very beautiful background piece.

I would recommend the ENTIRE Cowboy Bebop OST's... But I guess that would fail the whole "not downloading 4 pages of songs". I find that Yoko manages to make songs that inspires all types of moods, from swing-filled jazz to some deep blues... And even heavy metal. I'll only talk about CowBe, since it's what I know best, dividing by styles: background music - Fantaisie Sign - Waltz for Zizi - Ballad Of A Fallen Angel bebop (Tank! style) - Bad Dog no Biscuits - What Planet is This - American Money - Rush blues - Diggin' - Digging my Potato sad songs - Goodnight Julia - Rain not classified - Live in Baghdad (heavy metal queen) But listen man, if you really like Yoko Kanno's stuff, I'd recommend getting the entire OST's... All of CowBe's OST are very good. Or even better, buy the cd's!

In that case you shouldnt be giving extra pts for jazzy and what not. Its kanno's ability to adapt to her surroundings musically and that a lot of her work sounds entirely different. Check out her earlier work in Macross Plus for a good taste of how different she can be within an entire soundtrack. Her best work from M+: Fly up in the Air Voices Welcome to Sparefish A Sai En Coma Information High (with Yoko Kanno singing) Also her work on Turn A Gundam is another example of excellent diversity within a single soundtrack. Unfortunetly I'm not as intimate with which song is which in Turn A but here are some of my favorites: Final Landing Final Shore Gwen Lineford's Limousine Second Advent Black History She's so high Morning at Nocis Brain Powerd also has some additional good music from it: Ark Power of Light Orphen Those are the ones im most familiar with, but also look into Vision of Escaflowne Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex, and her earliest work I think, Please Save my Earth |
