Should Japanese companies come to america and have channels and have animes with subs instead of worring about dubbings like Naruto and One Piece?

If Japanese companies wanted to show their material to American audiences, then they would've done so a long time ago. But they're not trying to sell it to American audiences. That's why we have companies like ADV and Tokypop who license and release anime here because Japanese companies won't do it.

Actually, scratch that last statement. There are Japanese companies coming into the fray, like Geneon Entertainment (formerly Pioneer Entertainment). They've licensed many titles for release in North America.

Meh, I'd get more into this, but I don't have the time right now, sorry.

I think it's a nice idea, but I don't believe it would be financially beneficial to the companies to actually do that, at least at the present time, and that's what will matter to them most.

As riceboks was alluding to, a number of American companies already have strong ties or are subsidiaries of Japanese companies, including Geneon, Bandai, Viz, and Broccoli.

And then you may not remember Toei's recent experiment in releasing their own DVDs in the US, but most people that watched them seem to agree that it was a pretty thorough and effective botching of the job. Subpar dub acting, subs that were three lines long at a time filling a third of the screen and then disappearing too quickly, and so on. It's like they learned nothing from what ADV, Funi, and all the others have done over the years.

Ultimately, as much as I prefer subs and would love to have a channel that showed subbed anime, profit will ultimately drive the market. And right now for shows like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, DBZ, FMA, etc., that means getting your show dubbed (for better or for worse), getting it on TV, and then merchandising the hell out of it.

Japanese companied making anime specifically for American audiences and to be released on television here exclusively? I don't think that it's a good idea, at least not at this time. In here, the thinking is still cartoons = kids. There would be way too much restrictions placed on them to easily make a good story, the differences in cultural knowledge, and it would also only end up as kid's shows unless they only decide to air it at night - Adult Swim style.

Well, it WOULD be nice, but some ppl might not like it, since they can't understand it even though it has subtitles.

I dunno, it doesn't really matter to me, since I don't watch anime on TV...XDD

i wouldn't mind if that happened, since reading subtitles isn't that bad. however, i don't think it would help the industries. i think there're still many people would don't know anime or think that they're just children's shows. until anime has complete taken over the u.s. i don't think that japanese companies would come to america.

I absolutely DESTEST dubbed anything. It seems so fake and if they don't dub, they don't need find new voice actors. (funny how they put a "warning the following contains violence and should be for older people" i think people that are old enough to watching this stuff should be able to read decent...)

NO, it's a bad idea--don't merge american companies with anime, I like it better when it's sub.

well, they dont have to technically "merge", but they could havin companies owned by and runned by japanese people, so it will be like Japan in America. Meaning the time it for da anime/mangas/OST's will be available...more convienent is wut i'd say.
