Uwee Hee Hee! A thread devoted to all things "the greatest game ever"! As you may know, this is and always will be my fave game of all time, and I have proclaimed myself the god of this game, and this fall (possibly winter now) I will debut my FF6 Combovideo! So, what are your fave scenes, characters, anything! I look forward to hearing it all! Later, I'll post some of my infamous top ten lists for this game! Feel free to post yours! And please, no "FF6 was good, but 7 pwned it" comments. This is for fans and fandom ONLY, there are other threads for that! If you do, you will be pwned by yours truly on such a level you'd think you'd been Gendowned after losing the Gendou Casino bet 3 times in row while small Itachi judged you at the Gendou Courthouse in between your "mystical" and religous thread posts in the Physics Forum....while you were arguing with the Admin about hotlinking to his site (bad idea)! Anyways, shall I give you a tour of the gallery? Cool original art! AWESOME Cosplay! FFVI and celebrity similarities! |

I've made a tier list! Ever wonder what a tier list for 6 would look like? A tier is how good a character is, and this list is considering how useful they are at the beggining to the end of the game. GOD TIER, these characters OWN near the end of the game as well as in the start, however their godliness shines when you max all levels out- 1.Gogo: The ability to use any technique easily, and powerfully for only a little leveling up, makes Gogo 's strength and combo/team-up ability too good, and allows setups that can shut down any enemy almost instantly! If he had strong natural abilities and was available early on, he would easily have his own ultimate tier spot! 2.Locke: The Steal/Capture ability, speed, and his other well rounded attributes and powerful thief-weapons, among knight weapons like the runebaled, make Locke the best overall non-secret character throughout the game. The Atma Weapon/Valiant Knife combo easily does 80,000 damage combos, he is the only normal charcter capable of this in one command through Fight! 3.Cyan: Swrdtech gives Cyan always available magic-esque abilities and are "free" at that, including the only multi-Stop, an Odin, and a drain/osmose combo. In addition, dispatch always gives him a free cheap extended attack. Retort makes Cyan capable of being a one-man team and slaugthering enemies early on; teamed in a duo with Shadow's counters and you can wreak havoc on the first half of FF6! Finnally, the Quadra Slam/Slice are like free Offering relics! Coupled with Quick magic, Cyan is easily one of the best in the game. 4. Terra: Morph essentially doubles Terra's level, but it is fickle and short-lived, however nonetheless very useful early and late, also Terra is one of the best natural magic user's in the game, and has one of the best equipement setups since she is a girl (Minerva/Mystery Veil, etc.) and can equip swords like the Atma Weapon and Illumina! These alone make her one of the most useful fourth characters. But what makes her viable for position 4 God Tier is Morph, because it eliminats the necessity of maxing out her str/mag since it doubles it for her, you can then focus on leveling up speed through Odin, making her the fastest god tier character, now coupled with the god tier's "leftover" relic Gem Box, haste, and Illumina +7 speed, she is a force to be reckoned with. HIGH TIER, some of these characters are excellent throughout the beginning to the middle of the game, but their overall usefulness dulls a little near the end as you level max, at least in comparison to the god-tier. Others are useless or unavailble for much of the game, however all their savng graces make them stand out nonetheless. 5. Relm: Control. Relm is useless early on IMO, but later, Control will "eliminate" an enemy for free and give you access to powerful spells and abilities at the ame time, also it freezes an enemy almost indefinetly, coupled with vanish/stop combos, it allows you to pillage the enemy easily of Lore and items! Finally, use the Behemoth Suit to make Relm nearly unkillable. 6. Celes: of course, Runic is useful in it's own way, combo it with Gogo and you can halt all single target Magic type spells on screen! Also she has the "female/knight" setup. 7. Edgar: Throughout the game, Edgar's Tools will prove invaluable, but near the end they prove less usful in the face of what top tier can provide He also can however equip the powerful "knight" weapons! Using the air anchor, debilatator, and noise blaster, you can easily eliminate many normal enemies and even bosses for free, saving party strength! 8. Umaro: Another character looked down on, but Umaro does not need to be managed and will deal heavy damage while you focus on your main three. Eqquipped with the Rage Ring and Marvel Shoes, and you're looking at free, easy, reliable damage with very little need for management, and much more time available. Mid Tier- Useful characters but their overall ability dwindles near the maxing point, and they have nothinng that makes them still stand out as the top tier does. 9. Sabin: Sabin is fairly useful because of his strength but his Blitz gives him special skills that no one else can really mimic, however they get overshadowed by the top/god tier as you approach the end of the game. 10. Shadow: Shadow is God Tier throughout much of the game, but the Throw becomes "normal" compared to the massive damge available at the maxxing point, and Counter becomes less useful as enemires stop using as many physical attacks. 11. Strago: Lore and Magus Rod are excellent tools, bespecially early on, but they become less useful and made up for in light of the other available abilites. 12. Setzer: Setzer is perhaps the most debatable in the game, he could be on na Ultimate Tier or a Bottom Tier depending on how you look at it. I chose to put him in the Mid point though, becuase his randomness and slight unreliabilty makes his high strengths unreliable. What makes him uber though would be Slot, particularly the 3 Sevens slot, which one can fix it through Pause most of the time! I need to study him some more, if it is 100% manipulatable, he may easily take a spot at the top. Low Tier- These characters are very useful too, but they are unfortunatly overshadowed by the others who can match/make up for many of the low tier's strengths, which are, unfortunatly, random at many times and not as reliable! 13. Gau: Gau is dbatable at this point, the wind god setup may push him into the top four once I study it. For now though, Gau's lack of control make his one tye of ability per turn fairly useless, since everyone else can match it an has more options! Bottom Tier 14. Mog: He may be the mascot, but what a useless mascot. Dance is good early on if you get the dance you want, and they are strong too. But endgame, you have everything else he has and more whenever you want and the other characters don't trip! Losing a turn can use the ability you want is just silly! I'll add the rest later, but feel free to criticize this tier list, I'd love to debate on my FF6 tier list, and if you are having any problems with FF6, I'll be happy to help! |

OK, I updatd the list, I decided to make Terra 4th since the speed is so overpowering and stands out from the other high tier people. |

Re: Kefka Presents: Final Fantasy 6: NOW W/TIER LIST!

I won't critique each choice, however I'll argue or add to some points you made with a few choices below. Setzer, with genji glove, offering, fixed dice and insert trump/doomdarts (they are mixed up with each other between snes and ps version), and he can do a TON of damage, and it's the ability to do a ton of damage each turn that would make me put him at the top. True, fixed dice can do low damage at times, and you may hit an unlucky streak, but I have gotten streaks where I've hit 9999 4 times from fixed dice in 1 turn, and add that with the constant damage that his cards doe, that's a LOT of damage from the back row. Yeah I know, at max level having fixed dice probably isn't the best due to the randomness of it, and locke could do more damage on the whole, but you can read my point on locke below. Locke can also be a force with genji/offering combo, however his steal/capture is more valuable. Since you almost aways should be wearing a sneak ring, and if you want, a thief glove, the genji/offering combo isn't really viable. However, if you ignore his stealing ability, genji/offering with atma/illumina and valiantknife, you can do a hefty amount of damage if you wanted to. Terra and Celes are relatively interchangable imo, both great magic users, but of course terra can morph and do more damage. Celes' runic ability is very useful in certain situations, however my style of play is pretty much an all-out offensive rather than defensive. Cyan.... eh, I'm really not a fan. He does have some nice swordtechs, however to get to level 7, it does take a good amount of time. Unless you have a character with say... gem-box and casting 2 long animated spells in front of cyan (and even if that does happen), you will be waiting around to get to his 7th swordtech skill. Really not a fan of cyan at all, but that's more of personal opinion. Gau and Mog really should not be on the bottom. True, you don't have total control over them, however both of them can wear snow mufflers and reach 255 defense pretty easily, making them great tanks. As for mog, you can also make him a great dragoon (dragoon boots/dragon horn relics), which does a lot of damage along with a good chance not to be hit by the enemy. As far as gau goes, rages aren't that great end game, true. However, the ability to be a tank is pretty valuable. Also, you can go with this setup (words taken from another site): "On the alternative set-up: Wind God! Rage Stray Cat; you'll have a 25% chance of a 200 power Wind-elemental physical, 25% chance of a 48 power Wind Slash attack, 25% chance of a 800 power Wind-elemental physical (Catscratch), and 25% chance of a 198 power Wind Slash attack, which is comparable to Crusader's Purifer attack without it hitting you. With the offering, you'll have FOUR hits, each sporting the above odds. The physicals will be halved in damage, but the Wind Slash attacks will not be. The Wind God is very, extremely, obscenely strong and needs to be taken advantage of." So with the above setup, or just being a tank, gau is very useful. I realize you know your stuff and probably know everything I posted, but I'm just giving my input :) I pretty much agree with you on the rest of the points :> I love FF6 (just played it all the way through for nostalgia's sake just 2 weeks ago). As far as my favorite stories/scenes... let's see. Locke was always a favorite of mine, and I think he had a good background story with Rachel, so I would like to see some emphasis on that :) If I think of any others I'll let you know. |

To be honest, I forgot Gau could deal that much damage from wind slash 4 times, I had completley forgotten about that! But is it gauranteed if he initiates the command, or does it require "Rage Fight" AND the random effect too? If it doesn't, the ramifications to my combo video would be stunning! Thank you for the input! But, Terra and Celes are in no way interchangeable at the maxing point (levels at 99), Celes is excellent, and Runic does make her stand out, but Terra's morph eliminats the need for maxing her str/mag, allowing you to crop her level up resources into spd, no one else can really do this without limiting their ability to deal max damage and have max health, this allows Terra to get to the point where she has instant turns and still have massive str and magic! Also, Cyan's Swordtech is slow, but Quick magic allows you to get around that if you want to, it's more of a matter of combo/high damage preferences. Personally, I'd rather use another character, but with Quick, Cyan is just invincible and has the best abilties in the game! As for Mog, his dance is too random, it's only useful early on, and as for being a dragoon, I understand, but anyone can do this really! Considering the choices, it's better to have characters with useful abilites and if jumping is important, you can equip that too on them. I used to use that combo all time, "a dragoon party", they are nearly untouchable, but they can't each the level of damage that the God team can inflict in one turn (550,000 damage points if you allow Quick, otherwise it's about 300,000). And Setzer, I'm glad you understand that at level 99 the Dice/Offering combo doesn't compare to Locke's, and for traveling and collecting, I definetly use Setzer too, with your combo in fact: he is one of my fave characters! In that case Locke is better suited for stealing, I had a few Steal combos but they escape me at the moment. I use to argue with freinds how Setzer was Top-Tier, but eventually I have accepted that the other simply have more potential. But if I can find the trick to getting 3 Sevens in Slot, I'll put him the top, since he simply wins everytime; he can't do the biggest combos, but he would definetly be the best character then, since he eliminates the need to even fight! Oh yeah, Snow Muffler are cool, but again at that max level it's almost impossible to die, so their usfulness fades, but early on the rock. My tier list is mostly based on maxing out. It seems that the best people early become less and less good as everyone reaches level 99 and the abilities of the God Tier shine through, particullarly Terra (instant turns, rapid magic and a Powerful Merton!)and Gogo (nothing else left to say)! Of course, you're all familiar with the Merton/Flame Shield Combo? It's key ot my combovideo- dealing damge to the enemies of course, and then dealing to youtr freinds, changing shields, so that you can inflict about 8000 on your teamates, then restore it, then again, then restoring, it allows you to rack up the combo damage! |
Re: Kefka Presents: Final Fantasy 6: NOW W/TIER LIST!

Here's more info on Gau's wind god setup, taken from the same guide as the previous info: "Wind God Gau is easily set-up: give him the Merit Award and a Tempest for a weapon, and have him Rage Stray Cat. Gau's physicals rise in power, there's that in the first place. However, the Wind Slash attacks he produces are also affected by the !Catscratch damage multiplier, so when a Wind Slash kicks in a !Catscratch attack Gau performs what's basically a 192 Base Power MT attack with NO split damage. To compare, Aero on multiple targets effectively has a Base Power of 62. That's pretty freaking insane. Combine the Wind God with the Offering to have him rise to unspeakable levels of damage (when he isn't whipping out puny physicals). If no Offering is present, a Hero Ring works well enough. But it needn't stop there with the Merit Award fun. Against bosses, pick an elemental weakness and equip a weapon accordingly. Pearl Rod !Catscratches hurt a LOT when they're hitting a weakness, let alone the Pearl x 4 that may kick in 25 % of the time. On Floating targets without elemental weaknesses (or multiple on different parts, such as in the final battle), the Sniper rules supreme. Versus human bosses, the Man Eater is also a great option as it works just as well as exploiting a weakness." I also vaguely remember reading up on the 7-7-7 trick with setzer, and did a search for it just now. Here's some info for you, hope it's helpful: "- The Echo Screen/Joker Doom trick. To properly explain this trick (and for you to understand it completely), I'll have to get a little technical. If you want the full version, go visit masterzed.cavesofnarshe.com and find Master ZED's Slot ability Guide. For the very, very short version: All Slot attacks other than 7-Flush, Chocobop and Lagomorph (H-Bomb, Sun Flare, BAR-BAR-BAR and the two Joker Doom attacks) can randomly not be used as the game will skip over the necessary slot outcome, even if your timing is perfect. To determine if an attack is allowed or not, the game uses a little routine called an RNG: a Random Number Generator. Think of it as a pair of dice. Not the fuzzy kind for you car, mind you (although those are awesome). The problem is, a microprocessor (the little thingy that makes the game work) is purely logical, and there's nothing random about it. Instead, the 'RNG' is affected by certain spell animations. Every battle, the RNG starts at 00. Certain RNG values allow certain attacks. 00 allows nothing. This is why you will NEVER use Joker Doom as the first attack in a battle, EVER. For H-Bomb and BAR-BAR-BAR, half of the RNG values will allow it. For Sun Flare, one quarter of the RNG values will allow it. For Joker Doom the Good and Joker Doom the Bad, only 3.125 % will allow it; that's eight values out of the possible 256. Echo Screen and Smoke Bomb are the only two attacks you will be able to use that set the RNG from its original position of 00 to a position that allows EVERY Slot outcome, including Joker Doom. Obviously, Smoke Bomb tends to make you run away, so Echo Screen is the more canonized version of the trick. If you make sure no other influential spell animation has been used between using the Echo Screen and initiating Slot, the only thing you'll need to worry about is timing. Again: this is just the poor man's version of the explanation. I really suggest you go read Master ZED's document." That's all the info I can think of at the moment. All of your points are well thought out, and it looks like you really do know your stuff :) Anyhow, you seem to be on top of things, and I'll be looking forward to your video :> |

Hmm I had no idea there was an Echo Screen glitch! This changes a lot, I was wondering why I could'nt get straight sevens when I knew my timing was perfect. When I go back home, I'll have to experiment with this...this may chnage a lot of things! Particullarly, Setzer and Gogo would be God Tier, since they always have Slot, and can wipe out any enemeies at will! Also, Gau would be high tier as well. He could easily be the fourth tier mate, problaby knocking off Gogo since I prefer the damage I get from Terra's Merton combo. Anyways, more FF6 art on the way! |

Re: Kefka Presents: Final Fantasy 6: NOW W/TIER LIST!
|
My party in FF6 is made of... 1. Cyan, the samurai man... Cyan rocks!! Sure he takes time, but what I like to do is casts sleep on the enemies I hate the mosts, Charge Cyan up, and then... BAM!! Instant ANNIHALATION!! WOOHOO!!! Stress relief. His attack is also strong, and his hp is fantastic. 2. Terra, the killing machine... Terra is my second most favourite. When She morphs, she becomes a crazy killing machine, killing everything in her path. All her attributes double, but she can only maintain her morph for a short while, so use her only in dire circumstances. Her magic skills are good, but seeing as I'm not very fond of magic (takes SOOOOOO long to learn from Tritoch!!) I keep her for hacking and slashing. 3. Shadow, the enigma... What can I say... I LOVE INTERCEPTOR!! Beats Krypto the super dog any time of the day. I also have a fondness for speedy and agile characters. His throw is useful in the beginning, but later it's not very good, because you would have to throw tons of stuff justs to defeat the boss. He's the mosts expensive of all my characters!! Did I mention I have a thing for people with mysterious pasts? 4. Celes, the pasts reincarnation of Beatrix... Celes's runic is wonderful! I love fighting bad guys who fights using magic, cause my Celes will just do Runic!! HAHAHAHAHA, take THAT Kefka!! *ahem* I also love the part where she sings the Aria. BEAUTIFUL!! It brought a tear to my eye. But other than Runic, I don't really use her for anything except hack and slash. Not to mention, the character who pawns all characters... dum dum dum dum DUM!!! KEFKA!! Kefka is the epitome of PURE EVIL!! He is one of the only bad guys in the FF world who lives only for sowing chaos and pain. He does not have a sob story (like Kuja in FF9), he does not have an Oedipus complex (like Sephiroth in FF7), he is present in the majority of the game (unlike Ultimicia in FF8 who is only seen in the beggining movie and when you fight her, also Necron in FF9, who I STILL don't know how he got there...), he backstabs like nobody's buisness and doesn't feel bad about it (unlike Delita in FFT, I think he felt guilty later about how he used Ramza.) AND he had a wicked theme song. I love his cute wiltle laugh. Laugh for me baby! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! The music in FF6 is one of the bests I've heard from Good ol' Nobuo Uematsu. From swing to big band to opera to just plain "?", this is one of his bests works. The theme song for each character can tell you a story if you listen very carefully. They are full of emotion. I just practically cired when I heard Terra's theme. So beautiful... All in all FF6 ranks as one of the top 3 of the bests games Square soft has produced.
PMR...PMR... 1 month...

Whoa, finally a place for me. Glad to know there's still people who know this good-old RPG. What can i say, ow yeah... nice to know you all and hopefully we can build this thread up and fill it full with FF VI fanatics^^ Lolz, the midi reminds me of good times with this RPG. The first trip with Locke and Terra to the Figaro, the Sabin and Shadow adventure, and of course all other good things happened in the game while the world is still on balance and before Kefka rule the world. Here's a picture of Terra or Tina Bradford. Hope you'll like it.

Does anyone remember the FF6 comercial? BTW Most high ranked touranment players will tell you FF6 was the best by far too, even though they don't dable in RPGs! XD |
Re: Kefka Presents: Final Fantasy 6: NOW W/TIER LIST!

Lolz, i played FF VI when FF VIII is on the market. So, no i never know about FF VI commercial. It's not my fault, it's just old RPG games are so rare in my hometown and console are imported and really expensive at that time. In the end, i played FF VI through the emulator the Zsnes. It's one of the best time of my life, scoring FF IV, V, and VI in a row^^. Tried other FF, but only FF VII that has good RPG quality, almost as good as FF VI but rather low on storyline and gameplay. FF VI score most on the stroyline and the character development. Also i'm told that in that time, the gameplay is quite good with the secondary attack command that differ from char to char. Esper management and secret stuff like curse shield are also fun to play. Other than that, the music is the next-best thing in the game.
