I'm sure we all know the feeling of "Oh, that bike is awesome... I need to get that..." even when it's owned by someone else. But why steal it? So someone else can work 15 hours at minimum wage, pay all the money for it, and you get to have it when you don't deserve it? Or it could be even worse... I remember someone I know saying that someone she knew sent an engagement ring to... someone, I can't remember who (gomen~), yet when the recipient got the box the ring was missing. Do you know how much sentimental value that has? Do you know how expensive those are? How would your girlfriend feel if you proposed to her with a stolen ring? While it is true that you get something for free, it's not free for whoever payed for it. They just lost something they worked for, payed for, and worked to maintain, all because someone else didn't feel like doing the same... Can anyone else see what's wrong here? XD Another example is when I got a new bike for my birthday, yet it was expensive enough that I had to give up my allowance for a month or two. I remembered to lock it up EVERY time I was done using it, except once. The next morning, my bike was gone. I still had my allowance withheld for something I no longer had. I learned a valuable lesson from that: Never get something new; get it used, trash it up, and then no one will steal it (I got a $10 bike used, then put duct tape on it, then made a copper tubing/pipe cleaner basket on the back. I have never locked it up and even leave it outside my work unlocked, and I've had it for about a year now). I have found out how to avoid theft... But why should we even bother with learning how to avoid theft? It's not our job to make sure others don't steal our stuff, is it? It's their job to not take what's not theirs and mess other people up, ne?  |

Agreed. Most teenagers nowadays go by the mentality of 'Hey that guy has something I don't have!' I got my stuff stolen once, and another one was brazen enough to TAKE from me when I had my back turned. I was lucky that it was just a piece of book-keeping paper, but his attitde, when I asked him, was: What? I asked. So I replied: I didn't hear it, you know. He: You think I give a damn? How's Singapore supposed to survive like this??? Why should you slog, get good grades, get pay, to obtain something form your parents or your income, and someone takes it? |

Before someone steals, they should think of how much they would hate it if someone stole from them.

well, being a security officer in australia, my industry has to deal with the effects of these idiots, you would not believe the trouble people go to to get something they want. I've never had anything stolen from me, nor have i wanted to steal anything in turn. And I do believe that unless it's for a life or death instance, it's a case look, but don't touch.

people steal things because thieves dont feel guilty about using other's stuff and how the ex-owner would feel. i wonder if the muslim way (cut off thieves' hands) would work to eradicate theft? :D  |
