Does the quality of anime matter to you?
Link | by on 2006-09-12 23:50:16 (edited 2006-09-13 04:03:11)
Im a poor student. I live in Finland, and anime supply is quite low here. We only got well known series like Fruits basket, and Samurai champloo on dvd. So I watch anime from youtube and other sites like that, and the quality aint too good. It doesnt matter to me. I can enjoy the series if everything else, like plot and humour, are fine.

The quality of anime is a matter to me if I'm collecting it.. but if not, I just watch it plainly no quality..

Whih ^_^ I have got the image that everybody watching anime are like SUPER critical about the quality, and I am the only poor thing that doesnt care :D Other fans from Finland are often laughing at me, and saying that "youtube is the anime-heaven of poor (or hell)", and thats a bit cruell T_T But now im pleased!

It depends on the series.
Something like GITS SAC, quality is a must. There are too many things going that actually move the story forward, even when it seems trivial the first time around.
For most other anime, it's not as important, but I do watch some things just for the art.

I guess every anime show is good in its own way, I like them because they express the imagination of the creator and in a way, people in general. To me quality should be a given.

Except Tomb of Dracula, that just SUCKED!

well i am paying attention on the animation, voice-overs and story of the shows... but all in all... if i decide to collect the series... thats the only time ill be critical with every bit of detail...

but i do sort of... get irritated when i find pixels, deformities or discoloration in a scene in any show i watch (anime or otherwise... makes me lose my concentration...)

If the anime has no plot then the art had better make up for it. The plot is what makes it worth watching and is what makes it interesting. (Though poor art and bad voice overs bother me to...)

It depends...if it's REALLY BAD then of course I wouldn't like it, but it's just a little blurry or something that's fine with me.

The only complaint I have is in originality. A lot of anime today just recycle old plot lines while adding a little something new. I really dont have much objection with this but it would be nice to see another evangelion sometime soon.

I don't really mind the quality...as long as it runs well and I can see it...then it's ok...but if it's all blurry and skips parts then I don't like that...but I'm also a collector...so good quality is what I look for when I buy it...

Bad quality...Hmm, what do you mean by the quality?

as in the color graphics? or the fuzziness?

cause, i think it does matter....cause, it wouldn't have interested me, if it didn't...and me don't understand jap...^^

...but, if i had lil money, i don't think quality would have mattered...^^

If you're purchasing an Anime on DVD, like Samurai Champloo Vol. 1 or something, I would espect it to be shown in top notch/quality. If it was an anime movie, then I would also espect the same thing because anime movies are usually done with High Quality anyways and the animation, theme, etc. would be greater then the anime series as well. And Samurai Champloo is a very nice, beautiful scenary anime so yeah, it would matter... to me anyways... ^_^

Re: Does the quality of anime matter to you?
Anime quality always matters. If the story sucks then nobody will watch it. There are some animes that are just pointless like Bo BO boo boo or however you say it. Animes must always be good are else they will be failures

It depends. I love collecting anime so many factors are taken into consideration like story plot, artwork, picture quality and the quality of subtitles - especially the subtitles.

Bad subtitles just really get on my nerves, but sometimes I'd just bear with it and eventually I learned how to interpret the bad subs

i think the quality of the anime means a lot, not only artwork and picture, but also how it was dubbed.
---one reason why i don't buy english dubbed anime.
and the story, of course.
sometimes, when i watch an old anime with a good story, it's okay even if the picture is sucky.
but if the anime had such bad picture, and then such bad story line... gah~
sometimes the well drawn anime catches my attention as well, even if the story is isn't as captivating.

@kitty

so you understand and speak jap, huh? cool!
my jap friend and i watched a subtitled anime... it was a serious kind one. then she started laughing!! iasked her why, and she said that the subtitles were wierd... it was somewhat correct, but not exact! haha!

I really don't mind... as long as I can hear what they are saying and at least a bit of the show I can see ^_^

BTW I'm also from a place where anime is literally scarce ^_^
