This can be caused by not enough seeds. If you don't understand how bittorrent works with peers and seeds, read the Wikipedia article. You just need to find a torrent with a lot of seeds.

hmm...based on experience, i don't think it's simply just not enough seeds.it's quite common for that to happen even if there's hundreds of seeders.there's a few reasons like the seeder you're downloading from switch off his pc or closed the client etc etc.
also,there's a few trackers which basically rejects Azureus

what i did when i had this problem with azureus:
you could try changing the port number.(use numbers from ranges above 10000 for best results)
decrease the maximum upload speed a little

alternative;
use utorrent.end of story...my similar problems with Azureus was solved when i changed to utorrent

Amen. I tried using Azereus for a little while. Eventually it started BSOD'ing my computer every time it started trying to download. I switched to the amazing (only 115kb) uTorrent and haven't looked back since (except to laugh at my friends still using it). Seriously, tiny footprint, takes up much less memory than that java memory hog. No install (just a plain exe). You'll get 99% of the features you had in Azureus unless you were using custom plugins, plus it downloads faster most of the time. Unless you aren't using Windows, there's no reason not to switch.
Get uTorrent
