First, I think you should put some think warning as spoilers... telling out of the blue what the end looks like isn't a good thing to do. *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* What Lucy says, if I remember it right, it's that if things continue like this in 5 years most of the newborn would be diclonius... and so she goes off to prevent that. In earlier episodes, the one the diclonius says "Thank You" to the Director, later that Director General says what that meant... something that the diclounius virus was being passed on and it would end with the Director, the last one infected with it (supposedly). The last thing to do, since they killed all the babies with it and the remaining diclonius are locked in the facility, is to find the original one and get rid of it (that's Lucy). But in the end you see that the Director General was also one of the diclo. In a previous episode he also says that he wants the diclo to take over the mankind, and such. So, my guess is that Lucy knew he was one of the diclo (since she was locked somewhere near, or someone must've told her) and set off to get rid of him in the last episode... if it was really she in the last scene, them I presume she successfully killed the Director General... Well, that's what I think, I don't remember pretty well though @_@ |

You're right on the money Dani. I like to think its lucy/Nyu at the end, its sucks that she got her horns blown off. They where soo cute! Also dont you think lucy would make a good x-men villian. She sould fit into their universe being a mutant and all. |

The diclonius rab lat was giving the Director her thanks because she could see all the scientists behind the glass that have been experimenting on her and he was the only one who looked concerned - treating her as more than a lab rat. And the Director General - there is no way that Lucy would know about him being a diclonius. She doesn't get a reaction from him because he is not the same type of Diclonius like her. The Director General also kept his secret a secret (except for the assistant, but that's because she already knows too much and is being held there under the threat of death if she doesn't cooperate and keep her mouth shut at the same time). Even if his secret is known to a few people, who would tell that to Lucy? No one interacts with them. The only Diclonius that ever gets any interaction with is Nana and that was from the Director only. Finally, why would Lucy go out of her way and kill him? She doesn't care about him either way. The only reason she killed the Director General's son is because he was in the way. Also, the manga (the art is kinda crappy though) continues well after that moment. And does explain what the Director General and his son are and they are not the same type as Lucy. Just like it is stated in the anime, Lucy is a mutant - the first of her type. All the other type that is like her and can interact with her as a Diclonius are ones that originated from her. |

What the Director General meant when he said about it ending with him (the Director)? I thought it was about the virus thing... She may not care about the Director General, but in the end she does say about Kouta not being able to live in a world of Diclonius only... I don't remember if she shows any concern about it, but if she goes to battle then I guess it's because of him... and I can't think of anyone else that she would kill other than the Director General to "save" the future. I was looking for the mangas to see about everything I missed, but I couldn't find any good scans... it feels kinda bad when the anime ends like that -_- Btw, in the manga explains how the other Diclos originated from her? |

The Director General and his son comes from a line of people that are Diclonius-like, except they don't have any of the abilities that Lucy has. The only thing that marks them as Diclonius is the horns that's it. The world of Diclonius that Lucy is talking about is reference to Kouta being unable (or her not wanting him to) live in a world of death which marks her, as well as every Diclonius' life. The reason she goes off to battle is that they are hunting her down. If she doesn't eliminate them and vanish, they will keep on hounding her and Kouta. You can find scans here |

#Spoilers# The Director General and his son are indeed dicloniuses but they are watered down dicloniuses from interbreeding with humans over generations. That is why they do not have any powers or significant physical alteration (besides the horns and the possible psychosis inclination). Lucy does not to "save" the human race, she wants to EXTERMINATE them (mainly because she views humans as cruel and sadistic, out to hurt her due to all the abuse that she suffered in her life, so she believes that the easiest way to deal with the problem is to get rid of them). When she learns that Kouta still cares for her, she tries to make it so they can be together and he can be happy but because of the many threats to said happy dream (the research lab and its dangerous calvary, the diclonius outbreak, her past in general, etc.) she finds it impossible. Thus she tries to erase all of the negative renmants of her painful past and eliminate the diclonius problem (which is why she went after Mariko, the only reason she didn't go after Nana is because she is docile and Lucy knows that). Like Sir Bon said, she goes off to battle in the end to eliminate the possible threat to Kouta and because she probably doesn't want him to remember his painful memories (you know...family being slaughtered by Lucy) by being with her despite the fact that she wishes to be with him deeply.
You need a reason to be sad. You don't need a reason to be happy. The secret to happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible.
