watching anime.

I was just wondering what language would you prefer when you watch anime. I think that watching anime in its native language (which is japanese) is better than watching anime which is dubbed in other languages. I believe that watching dubbed anime is fine but sometimes it drains out the originality of a japanese masterpiece (which is anime; a japanese creation). I believe that an anime with the original japanese seiyuu/s tends to be more emotional and has a more realistic feel? what do you think? native japanese language or dubbed?? ~:)

UGfds!! I cant stand dubbed anime!! xPPPPPP It doesnt sound real! >_< The voice actors(seiyyu/s)are so much better in Japan, and they put some feelings in their work!! You can feel everytihg so clear <3 And the dubbs are allso often so low quality, that me, not so very good in english, cant understand a thing theyre saying! I understand even japan better than that *krhm* a bit differnt stuff.
Thank heavens no TV programs are usually subbed in finland *prais heavens*

I prefer to watch anime in Japanese, but some dubs are not that bad. The Spanish dub to Lost Universe was pretty good. I liked the Fushigi Yugi English dub, but that may be because I was 12. Some bad dubs also make the anime funnier like Gokusen's english dub is hillarious! But for the most part, english dubs of anything foreign are bad. The worst offender is the Yami no Matsuei dub. God, it was horrible! It didn't fit any of the characters at all.

God, I never knew so many ppl that hate the dub version of anime. Are they really that bad? While the Japanese version may be better, I, personally, would like to be able to hear the words in a language I UNDERSTAND. I do watch subtitles but because I'm not use to japanese language, the characters' voices sound weird....just a little. I'm not disagreeing with you people, but I hate to watch an anime and try to read the subtitles at the same time. It's not like it's a lot of effort to do that I just want my focus on the anime, not the words. I do hate when the eng. dubs have to change what the character originally said to make the words fit the character's mouth.

by the way, i dont mean to offend our fellow dubbers (no matter what country they came from) sometimes I appreciate our own tagalog dubbers also. i just want to hear from other people about their opinions or preferences in watching anime. its pure entertainment guys! (and gals!) \m/

Here's an example why the original Japanese is better.

In Bleach, Ichigo's name is used as a pun in several situations.

Ichigo by his kanji, means first protector, and now he's a shinigami
In regular speech, ichigo is a homonym for strawberry, hence his nickname.
On his door to his room, he has a sign that says 15 because ichi is 1 and go is 5
His sister Karin often calls him Ichi-ni, a way of calling him Ichi-elder brother and also a play on numbers Ichi = 1 and ni =2

In any dubbed anime ALL of this is lost.

aww. i'm not a bleach fan but what eiko said is true. sometimes the original names of the characters are changed also.

For me, the best choice is to get anime in his original language, I mean in Japanese (with subtitles, off course because I don't understand Japanese hehe, but I'm trying to learn). I preffer this way because the anime keeps it's originality and the x factor that makes it really good.

But in second option (and as spanish is my natural language) I really like the mexican dubbing (Those people in Mexico are marvelous at dubbing, and they know how to keep most of anime without substantial changes, except for the language XD)

Well... since I like to listen to Japanese and learn the language, I prefer to watch anime in its original, Japanese form.
Anime is a kind of Japanese art form, and once it's been tampered with (i.e., dubbed into another language), it loses some (or a lot) of its original meaning.

However, all dubbed anime isn't bad, I think. Sometimes, it helps me understand the story and plot better than the Japanese subtitled version. It depends on the anime.

But I love Japanese seiyuu!!! ★ They give their characters more depth than their foreign voice actor counterparts. And the anime characters usually seem cuter, hotter, etc., in Japanese... (^▽^;;)

What the hell are you smoking? Anime? Masterpiece? And just because it's Japanese?

I think you need to step away from the bong

Again, I don't want to argue with anybody, I just want to get people's opinions and/or preferences. So I think you should keep it down shirou because I don't want
to be enemies with people around here (because their nice). Peace out \m/ Itte Mairimasu~

I dont mind ethier but as others say u get more emotion with japanese.

swallow your pain; feel your sorrow; close your eyes and see tomorrow; death is just a sensation you feel; if you don't believe than its not real.

I really like to watch anime in it's original language (which is Japanese) but some of the dubbed anime (in english, maybe American) is better than the original one.
For example, i like dubbed anime Samurai X/ Rurouni Kenshin better than the original. They really done a good job in dubbing the anime.
