-.-; not sure if this is the right place to put this, but does anyone have the url for downloading japanese character support, or a website that prompts it? I have Firefox, by the way..

I'm not sure, but perhaps the microsoft (cringe) website might. I think I saw something about it there. (If you have windows, that is) Otherwise, try to check firefox, they might have language links.

If you have windows Xp then all you have to do is view a website with japanese characters and it will ask you if you want to install a language pack that will display them.

Here is a very good site for explaining how to both install and use the Japanese text support for all Windows OSes from Win 95 up to XP:

If I remember correctly, you'll need your WinXP installation CD too.
(Unless you want to reformat your computer and let Windows ask to install the language pack, cutting the hassle of downloading and tweaking configurations, but wasting your time reformatting/installing.)XD

BTW, on typing Kanji...
I managed to add Japanese(& Chinese) into the "Input Languages". I can type Hiragana and Kana, but not Kanji. I tried to use the Chinese configurations to type the Chinese characters in a japanese phrase but it didn't work out coz my Chinese configurations can't type them(kanji) either. And yes, I typed the original Mandarin PinYin(roman phonetics).

Any other ways to type Kanji without having to load NJstar(or any third party programmes)?

I dunno how, but on my Windows, I can type in both, and when I press space, it reverts to the closest Kanji phrase. Pressing space again just makes more come out.

So, install language pack or CD? I think it would be CD.

Windows OS Installers especially xp includes Asian language encoding.
Install language support from your xp installer.

More specifically, on XP:

1, Open "Control Panel" -> "Regional and Language Options"

2, Select "Languages" tab

3, There is a checkbox which says, "Install files for East Asian languages." Select it.

4, Follow the instruction from there. It should tell you to load the XP installation CD and reboot eventually.

I don't remember if that was it. You should see the Language Bar somewhere on the desktop. If you don't:

5, Go back to the same tab.

6, Click on "Details" button in "Text services and input languages" section.

7, Click on "Language Bar" button. Make sure "Show the Language bar on the desktop" checkbox is selected.

Sorry if I missed some detail, but I think that would work...

If you can type in Hiragana and Katakana, and you want to type kanji, here's my advice for XP users (not sure about other versions).
After you finish the Hiragana or Katakana, press space.
