Classical Music Re-use
Link | by KangenKangetsu on 2006-10-10 19:12:06
I'm used to classical music using getting used in almost all entertainment, though it usually retains it's original name. In anime though it seems to gain a few new names, ones that fit the moment of the anime or such. However, I just had to laugh when I saw that someone had requested 'Unmei' from Full Metal Alchemist, I mean that's Beethoven's Fifth for crying out loud. Everyone knows it and your parents or grandparents probably have it already (yes on a cd even).

Such goes the random topic: other's I've noticed are things like 'Sayonara Hikaru' from Hikaru no Go, and 'Wakare no Kyoku' from FMA again are both well known musical pieces, Lebenstraum (Franz List me thinks) and Begin the Beguine (an old show tune from the 1930ishes-Cole Porter) I think...may be mistaken on which piece name it is.

But it was only Beethoven's 5th that got me laughing that someone really requested it =^-^=

I'd be interested in hearing what sort of other catches people have found hidden in their hordes of anime soundtracks

As I remember, there was some classical music on Evangelion (movies and also the series) like "ode to joy" from Beethoven, and the "suiten fur violoncello" from Bach (I guess so, I'm not so familiarized with classical music).

And what about "fly me to the moon" it's not classical, but even Frank Sinatra has his own version of this song.

Anime has used a good quantity of "non-anime" music as I can figure out.

Kei-kun's space for stupid comments: Everything changes... we all have to move on

Yup, if I'm not mistaken... Evangelion has the most re-used classical songs that I know about. They even have their own album or should you say OST which were released quite along time ago. They are Beethoven, Bach and Dvoak < Name of the CDs.

Sinatra did the FIRST, definitive, version of "Fly Me to the Moon"

Pachebel's Canon in D is used in just about everything everywhere.

I think "Begin the Beguine" was Gershwin, but I'm not sure.

Some songs are just classics, pun not intended....

Most importantly it must match to the theme and the story of the show.

Does anyone know if Diva's song from Blood+ is a reused classical song? You know, the one with a really high pitch... If it is, then what's the title of the song? I kinda like that song... :P
