The PS3 release
Link | by Huy on 2006-11-18 09:21:42 (edited 2006-12-31 06:35:13)
I`m in Germany, so I don`t have the chance to get a PS3 at the moment.
But I heard that the release of the PS3 in the US was very chaotic.
Everyone wanted to have one. And there were only few per shop cause of production problems.
Did someone of you guys get one of them?

Well... alot of reports came out in its release..

1.) Ebay prices are sky rocketting from $2000 - $15000 on its Launch Day

2.) almost 200+ PS1 & PS2 games are having problems with the next gen console (Sony promised too fix this in the future)

3.) People in line had mixed emotions because the stores might not have enough Stocks (As reported in the Japan release... alot of people who camped went home with nothing)

4.) People who camped were also mugged ...

5.) There are also reports of robberies in the delivery of the console to some stores...

and to answer your question...

i dont plan to get one until later next year (until the problem in #2 is fixed at least or if the game i was waiting for is released)

I must point out that those kinds of things happened in the US, not Canada. Just thought I would hit that point home.

Anyway, I plan to get one, I really want one, but like Lu Bu said, I'd rather wait until they get #2 fixed and also because there's really only one game out right now I want and that's Resistance: Fall of Man.

But overall I must say things went pretty well. I just hope Sony fixes the Production problem and is able to ship out more PS3's soon.

I plan to get one just for KHIII, but that doesn't come out until 2011. *sighs* I might get a Wii to play Mario and Zelda, though :D

No big deal for me, I've always hated KH.

Is it just me or did Square sound pretty cocky in that article?[Or at least came off like it.] Kept saying things like, "We don't want Sony to be the overall loser so we'll still support them, but we also don't want them to be the overall winner so we can't support them too much." That kind of stuff makes it seem like Square thinks of themselves as the deciding factor in the console wars.

@rematche- Unfortunatly I've seen gameplay footage of that game. I thought it looked great too, in fact everyone did, in the trailers. The truth is[at least in my opinion]that the game looks like garbage. It did look good in the trailer, but when you look at the actual gameplay there are useless targeting things all over the screen, they use the ever wonderful cliff and grassland enviroment and things move faster than shown in the trailer.

I was going to pick it up, but now I'm having my doubts, in fact it got a 3.9 on gamespot. That's just plain horrible.

The only good games out for it now seem to be sports games and Resistence: Fall of Man.

Personally, I'm waiting for:

DMC4
MGS4
Final Fantasy VII Remake[One can only hope anyway.]
Resistence: Fall of Man[Already out but hey, still a great game.]

I think I'm forgetting some but I can't remember right now.

Got 1 and resold it for money. Nice way to make a huge profit due to the high demand for the system

I heard the controller of the PS3 has no vibration funktion couse of the six-axis sensing system! But you can`t use it like the WII controller. I think it`s only good for flying-simulation and perhaps racing-games.

I can`t imagine how it is when you get hit and it doesn`t vibrate.

I recall that sony was sued for their Dual Shock contollers.... So thats probably the reason why they didnt add that function this time around... or they are probably planning to in the future

maybe they will release dualshock but only in Japan. I've seen the PS3 at the game store near my house.

It was bulky...and the controller looks strange without the analog button.

@Lu Bu- I can't believe that, what did some kid somewhere vibrate his eye out or something.

"I can`t imagine how it is when you get hit and it doesn`t vibrate."

lol, you must have only been playing the current gen then. As difficult as it may be to believe, there was a time when controllers didn't vibrate. I don't really mind about it personally, so the controller doesn't vibrate[At least yet] big deal. It's a cool feature but nothing that bugs me when it's not there.

well its not like that... Immersion Corporation apparently sued sony for "imitating" the Dual Shock function...

Judge upholds suit against Sony - Gamespot article

Still, no big deal in my opinion. Vibration isn't that important.

I also heard on the Wii there's only one vibration force reaction. So your getting the same vibration each and every time regardless of how hard your hit or how hard you hit someone else. Either that or your going to get a pseudo vibration where the controller just turns it on and off at certain points to simulate softer and harder vibrations.

EDIT: Oh my god, take a look at the comments on gamespot below that article. Seems everybody out there is suddenly an expert on the situation and fully believes sony is at fault for everything. Why? Because Immersion was the one sueing and seems to be winning the case. God, people are so ignorant.

Pretty strange that only 400,000 are only being sold in the US. And around this time, they might sell out quick. I went to Phily last weekend reading the paper on the ride there, and I came up on the discussion about the "Game War". XBox 360 is expecting that 10,000,000 360's are to be sold by the end of this year. Not much discussion about the Wii that day, but I'm sure Wii will have a huge impact.

Note: If you buy a PS3 on eBay, I heard it's around 1200$. O.o`"
