As far as i know Karas and Appleseed are two of the best anime's visually. I would like to know if there are anymore that are as visually satisfying as those were.

According to my tastes...
-Major battles in naruto have amazing animations
-Suzumiya Haruhi when she's playing the band and nagato vs Asakura. Amazing animation also.
-Blood the last vampire. Well... gotta give it up for that one, although i don't really like the drawing style

Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex has incredible use of CGI backgrounds, its one of the most visually stunning anime I've seen. Also the new OVA Freedom Project, breathtaking visuals and race scenes, this also makes heavy use of CGI but keeping a lot of the feel of traditional drawn anime.

Death Note is excellent too, and I thought Loveless and Gankutsuou had good visual styles, although some of the actual animation was less good. Although a lot simpler, I think Zettai Shonen is beautifully done in a naturalistic way.

I remember Elfen Lied was praised for detailed backgrounds at the time, but looking at it now, it looks quite ordinary, things have improved so much in the last few years.

Of course it all comes down to money, its very expensive to make high quality anime, which is why something like Naruto has a lot of pretty bad quality animation in between the important sequences, not to mention heavy use of flashbacks and panned stills.
