Yu-Gi-Oh season 1
Link | by Janus on 2007-01-15 15:08:12
The japanese first season, not the american. How many of you have seen the fansubs? They are awesome. I liked the manga. I found it incredible how badly 4Kids butchered it when they brought it stateside like by ripping out the grandpa's remarks to Anzu.

I was out of card battle games when I was 7, now all I can do is mock every aspect of card battle games and shows. For instance the fact that in Yu-Gi-Oh the main character can basically eliminate any luck involved in the game by simply "believing in the cards" suddenly he pulls the one card he needs to win and plays it. Card battle shows tend to be very generic and not at all different. Except Duel Masters, that had some comedy, but nothing you'd die laughing of.

Any card game anime that I saw got overrated cause of this big advertisements of the cards (in the US anyways...). And Duel Masters is worse than Yu-Gi-Oh in english voice acting... I still have nightmares about it... *shivers*

No, not the americanized first season, the japanese first season (you know, that one that had next to nothing to do with the game). Look for the bittorrents and you will see that 4Kids butchered it. The moments that show why the first season wasn't allowed to come stateside include the panty-pike scene and the scene where Yugi burns a man to death.

I have never watched the subbed version of Yu-Gi-Oh. Only the English. The 1st season was really good imo, but they pretty much killed it in the other seasons.

The first season was much diffrent from the ones 4kids imported, infact 4kids refused to dub the original first season because they thought it was too violent.

@jonathon- yeah yugi was a badass in the first season, the shadow games were more deadly and there was less "luck"/"heart of the cards" as there was tactical thinking and brain power.

for those of you confused.

ive seen a couple of episodes of the japanese version like the girl that hangs out with Tea and who the guys like with the white or purple hair is new to me. and the anime looks sooo old to me tho like maybe from the time of the first dragonball i think. The intro opening music sounds like the dragonball opening too. I stopped watching it after the one about the sempai that beat up joey and brown haired guy.

I actually liked the Japanese. My brother got me the Japanese manga volume for Xmas in 2004 >< Yeah, he burns this criminal to death, gets the shit kicked out of him yadda yadda... THE PANTY PIKE!! LMAO Oh, and he was pop-up pirate at this school thingy. Good times! There weren't any cards in that volume, were there? And lots of swearing XD It was TOTALLY ruined in English *sighs* But what can you do?

@mars- Well I knew that. 4Kids butchers every show they put on, they also degrade them by sticking the characters in their crappy contests every week.

I have to watch it now. It sounds great.XD

yeah in the original had only about 6 duels in total (using cards). I'm not sure about the anime though cause I'm only on 10 of about 27 episodes.

If you want the fansubs, search for yu-gi-oh fansubs. The original series did have some of the card battles but they required more skill and were more like Fire Emblem than a card game. The players had to factor in the part of the field that the monster was on, the weapon that they were wielding, element, etc. Miho was completely eliminated from the original series and if you lost a shadow game in the original series, you wouldn't go to the shadow realm, you would drop dead. The original theme song, Kawaita Sakebi (Gendou has this one)is very good. Here are the lyrics for it and compare these to the lyrics from the americanized version's theme (actual lyrics) YOUR MOVE YOUR MOVE IT'S TIME TO DUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUEL and a lot of shitty sound effects when compared to these for Kawaita Sakebi http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/yugioh/kuwaitsakebi.htm now you will notice that Kawaita Sakebi has actual meaning.

O__o!!!! Janus, you're right! It actually has meaning... and sounds emo.... JK

But we all know that the MORE meaningful lyrics are these:

YOUR MOVE!!!!!! YU-GI-OH!!!!! It's time to du-du-du-du du-du-du-du-DUEL!!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

^LoL that's 4kids for you, replacing the "emo" japanese openings with americanised "rock"...I mean without them where would we have seen great songs like:
Gotta GO YOHO! GOtta GO Gotta GO!
and of course the classic
IT'S TIME TO DU-DU-DU-DUDUDUDUEL.

but yeah kawaita sakebi is a great song and without Miho, Honda(tristan) loses most of his place in the anime. It was his one goal in life to get a date with her ><.

Don't forget the ending theme Ashita Moshi Kimi ga Kowaretemo, that theme was awesome. What was it replaced with in the original version, nothing. There was no ending theme in the americanized version. My favorite episode (of the ones that I have seen so far) was episode nine. If you find animesuki, download episode nine, it is an awesome episode. You won't forget it.

Watching Yugioh season 1 at episode 149..sadly there's 216 episodes for season 1 and I'm so far away...lol.

Liked the card game and the anime is ok, not complain much abt Yugi always winning. Its now what they call Fate of card or cheating, its just an anime showing why you should trust on something you really love. If you love something or someone, you should put trust on them...thats what Yugi rare luck duel is about.

Geez some of you who don't really understand the message behind some anime, get some moral lessons will ya.

And I thought I've already 'abide' by the rules of signature.
