Does anybody else not check out the English lyrics to the japanese songs you download? I just feel like it kinda ruins the song for me. And besides, no matter how much you like Japanese music, you gotta admit the lyrics are usually pretty weird.

| You're not the only one. I rarely read the translation because they make no sense to me most of the time and it does take away from how good (most of them) a song sounds. |

but i don't think that's a bad thing... sometimes there's a hidden message... u have to get through the text, read between the lines & then everything makes sense... well if not... it's just a weird odd text xDDD

I don't read them either.^^; I remember I once saw the subtitles during the song Just Communication, I really hear that song differently whenever I listen to it now. The lyrics are kind of dirty.XD    |

I'm usually curious about what a song is about, but I dont like reading other people's translations. I like translating them myself so I know what the Japanese is saying directly, even if when I put it into English words it doesn't sound too good. Song Japanese is like a different language to spoken, quite often it doesnt add up, or I cant make it add up. Its just like a string of phrases sometimes. I think they are way weirder than English lyrics. And because they leave so much out, its hard to know if the singer is talking about themself or the other person, or their dog. I thing the only song i translated that actually makes sense is Tsukurimashou from Azumanga Daioh ^^ and even then you actualy have to watch the anime to know who Chiyo-chan is singing about.  |

For Ride On Shooting Star - The Pillows (FLCL)...That's probably the ONLY song where the English lyracs fit perfectly with the song....when you sing them, anyway.

Ahaha, at first I liked checking out translations of songs I really like ^^;; they all turned out to be really weird in English. But nowadays I don't check them out unless I'm bored. I'm not really sure if translations ruined the song for me. @zero: I tend to keep that in mind as well. The lyrics seem like haiku's don't you think? @Jonathan: XDD Whahah, I thought that too when I read "Just Communication". About warmth and touch and hugs and that sort of stuff; doesn't even add up to the anime series XD. Though, still it's a nice song to listen to. |

I checked out the lyrics in English....after several months and after singing the song for 120th times! hahah ^_^ but seriously, yea i agree that some of the text is weird when it was translated into English. but heck, i think that happens usually to any other language that is translated to English. it happens most of the time. Once I translated a Filipino song to a friend in English...and it was just weird in English. Coz some words that was translated didn't match. I just couldn't translate it literally to English but I have to basically translate the MEANING of it. so My point is... it's probably the same between Japanese-to-English. sorry... i kinda talked to much.  ^_^v PEACE OUT! |

yeah sometimes but since that doesn't really do anything, recently i just sing stuff without knowing what they mean lol..the songs still sound gr8 even if the translation remains unknown! :P unless i really really like the song,i won't check out the translation..that''s my conclusion  |

i check them and it's not that bad i mean it's really a translation from the original song lyric, not that they add up some odd word here and there. and i know what they meant, what are they saying. but sometime i'm just to lazy to check all the song i have. some good song, with good word is hoshi akari-> early suit the screen play there dango daikazoku-> weird you may think, but it ell about family in metaphor and there also azurite-> the meaning is beautiful if you really can tell what are they saying, almost all the song i've heard (500+) tell about love, most of them tell about the anime they represent

It depends on the song, actually. Most japanese songs aren't that serious, if you know what I mean -- for example, anime-related songs have funny and almost inappropriate lyrics. But NOT all of them, of course. And yes, japanese people like metaphors.  |

I would agree with you most of the time, but everyonce in a while I like to check out what the translation is. So far I havent been disappointed with them. If I dont like how it was, then I just forget what I read and go back to romaji. ^^

When I hear J-songs, unconsciously I tried to know what the singer sing, and write my own version of romaji (because I'm so lazy to look up the real lyrics on the net). But translating it to English is a bit troublesome, since I don't know what kanji do they use. That's when I give up then browse on the net. But before looking to the translation they usually provided, I like to translate it (again) by myself first, then compare it with theirs. But yeah, sometimes the translations sound strange. Guess the way of Japanese people think is different than me. |

| Nah, I don't really look at the English translations for Japanese songs. I usually just read the Japanese lyrics so I can sing along until I memorize them after listening to the songs so many times. XD |

Well i do read the english if i want to know the meaning of the song...but now mostly no. i don't have the time XD now i just look at romaji lyrics. |
