Ok, I am chronologically biased since I am not a high school kid anymore. I just think that the Japanese are a bit too obssessive about high school kids, especially girls. Just how many stories can you write about girls in high school becides the usual, magical, vampire, superpower, ultra hentai theme. I think it is safe to say that half of all animes evolve around high schools and that is just too much. What do you all think? |

i suppose you are right, the anime girl has become a cliche in many many many animes now. still, at least they are easy on the eyes ;) |

I can see what you're getting at, but it's more or less a marketing strategy. Since Anime is big with teens in Japan They should make series that revolve around teenagers. |

I see what u mean. There are too many anime themes with high school students but some are good so i really wouldn't get rid of theme since they are so popular and ppl in japan like them. |

It's exactly as Mars says. The Western culture after all revolves around sexually appealing girls to sell everything. Every culture relies on what works to sell products and grab the largest demographic. Anyway, my view. I don't mind it. As long as the story is something different or there's an aspect that makes the show good why should I care if it's set in a high school? Does it really matter that much? |

Well, you do have a point. And if it's not in a high school setting, the characters' ages are that of high school students. But when you think about it, a lot more story lines can be made up based on high school. Peer pressure, first love, friends forever, finding oneself, BELONGING. Can you really make that much stories out of college? Okay, I'm a bit biased myself because I'm still in high school, but I'll be graduating in a month (weee!) and I have a pretty good picture of college. People there are really serious and concentrate mainly on their future (jobs, family, life). At least in high school people still have their time for fun. Don't tell me I'm ignorant about college and know nothing about it. Most of my cousins are in college and they're giving me a reeeeally good picture of it. Elementary? Not sure. If you enjoy watching Beyblade, sure why not? :P Well, I hope you get my point. But if you DO happen to think of a badical storyline based on college, I'd be happy to know about it. :) |

There are many good anime that is not based on high school life, such as Oh my goddess, Ai yori Aoshi, City Hunter and its sequel Angel Heart. Personally, I just want to know there is life after high school. Sometime people just need to grow up a bit. I am not disputing the fact that anime company need to make money with the teenager market but there are other market out there as well. And its not like I don't like some of the anime that is set in high school. I like Suzumiya Haruhi and Fate/Stay night. What would please me is to have anime that transition high school characters into college and progress in life. I think that would very an interesting theme. |

I actually like the whole high school theme since it brings a more comedic atmosphere into a series. I find it as a positive thing. But I like it only when the whole series is not solely based on the high school theme. Like Bleach, Full Metal Panic, and Fruits Basket has the high school theme but they have a lot going on else where too. But the theme gets rather annoying when the sole plot of an anime is about High School life like in School Rumble, Negima, etc. |

i think that aside from the whole age-group and whatever, there is something very technical about having a fixed setting. the creators of the series need a fixed place where everyone will be for a few reasons: 1- inventing new places all the time is very tiring. 2- a place where all the main characters are sure to be in. 3- they need to have a certain daily routine so that they can help the reader/viewer know and understand the character better. the point is it doesn't have to be a high-school, but a high-school is very fitting in many aspects. btw, the person who asked for an anime that has it's charcters start in high-school and shows their life after that too: watch "kimi ga nozomu eien". it's a drama series, so if you're into that you can try it out. i think it was pretty good. also, death note only has a high-school theme in the very beginning. most of the series raito is in/after college. another comment: a series with a good college THEME would be "honey and clover". |

High School themed are the fad now oωo but I AM sick of them at times~ I wanted to have more new action anime now dattebayo~ High school themed animes are not really tiring once you see everyone of them, each one of them actually has "uniqueness" inside the context~ example, Ouran High School Host Club; group of bishies with only one girl in the club, Midori no hibi; a delinquent who has a girl as his right hand, Gokusen; a teacher who knows how to kickass, GTO; a teacher who belongs to a motor gang, School Rumble; well...pretty much random things happen here ¦P You get the point, neh~? So it's not only high school girls are a "fad" but also bishies nowadays dattebayo~ |

yeah, most of anime is high school, maybe sometimes they should make anime with college theme (because im in college now he he he). but in other looks, most of anime watcher is high school student, so ... can helped, high school theme is the most profitable, beside high school is most people thing where the most love comes. |
Re: How many of you are sick of high school theme?

Technically, the reason for using the theme is because of the Character's age, Plot and Setting (Hey... even some usually makes one because of its "Moe" factor that appeals to the majority of the viewers) Its also reasonable since High School is the most "memorable" time for some and normally thats the time they start seeing and exploring Life before Adulthood Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

Yeah, that IS true... But as long as it's creative, and doesn't drag too much, there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion. =P |

I'm with Jon and agreeing with Lu Bu here. If the anime can remain consistent, enjoying to watch, then I shall continue to watch the anime, regardless. Personally though, I'll watch any anime that is good. Being that it involves school life is just another un-important side dish. But for me, I love the high school theme and the high school girls. o(*.*)o Maybe it's because I want to actually go to school in Japan. Get into clubs or see friends taking part in activities for clubs, school festivals and sports fests, etc. rather then boring school life here in US. -.-; The student council I see in anime (if it's actually real), totally kicks my high school's student council. >_>` So overall, it doesn't really apply to me. I'll continue to watch anime that involves school life if the anime is interesting to watch, etc. etc. you know... ------- |

remember Ah my goddess? I like that theme much more than high school theme at least people do not have a fixed schedule and this will make the story more dramatic I love the freedom they have in college life btw, even if it is high school theme, those characters always skip class, right? so does it really matter? the only thing i like about high school theme would be the school uniform |
Re: How many of you are sick of high school theme?

actually i don't mind high school theme for anime cz im a high schooler myself as long as the anime has a good plot, good looking characters and high quality animation, i'll watch it! anyway, its nice to see high school characters in action based anime like those that involves fighting! |
