working in japan?
|
hello everyone! i had a quick question. i live in america right now, but i want to live and work in japan. the problem is, i don't speak much japanese and i don't want to teach english. well, acctually, most firms offer programmes but require an american bachelor's degree. i only have an associate's degree. i do have skills in culinary arts. i graduated from a pretty well known culinary academy and i am currently the chef at the restaurant i work for. is it possible to find an english speaking job teaching culinary arts in japan? thank you very much for you help : ) |

Anything is possible, but I don't think it's likely. How will you live there if you don't speak the language? |

thank you for the kind wishes. yeah, i think it would be the best idea to start learning japanese. i'll do that. i have been using a computer program to start with the japanese and after that, i'll probably find some private lessons before i go. even with any skills, it's mostly impossible to find a job if i can't speak the language. thank you guys for responding! i will try my best! - c-dawg |

From what i know, yes teaching english is the easiest way in jap, but the problem lies as in that way, you are needed for short term. But then like what Eiko said, anything is possible, like one of my friends....(ry has scored a job in jap and hes living and working there, without knowing a single bit of japanese. But the thing with this is that if u just want to live, i suppose u can, because appearantly jap is starting to be more "international" ie: by placing english everywhere.... well atleast thats the case with tokyo. Another thing atleast which i want to say is that.... cmon buddy, learn jap - its a essentail thing to learn the language that is used in that particular country. I mean i live in australia, and it feels as if 80% in my area doesnt speak english at all and that is annoying in itself. If u learn to speak jap, or atleast try to learn to speak jap, there is a good chance to get yourself any job. Just remember one thing, if u want to live in jap your going to be spending your entire (well pretty much thats the sterio type thing in jap) career life in a single company. And last thing which I want to make a point of is to get the nationality to jap - just take that in point, i heard that even if u marry a jap girl now for instance, it would be impossible to get japanese citizen even then. Just make those factors in point, these informations might not be accurate, but just consider it.
