What are you hoping to do with this info if you get it? Anime isn't really an informational tool as much as it is an entertaining story, with a moral every now and again. But, if you post a little more about what you're trying to do i'll try to help.

well some anime do contain facts, and you could learn a thing or two from them:

BlackJack--medical stuff (fine, half of the deseases are fake, and TB can't be treated with surgery, but still some stuff are fact.)

Roruni Kenshin-- good way to study Japenese history

DBZ/DBGT-- where my friend learn how to fight....

Evangelion --- wrath of GOD

GTO --- how to be cool (somewhat....)

Knights of zodiacs (Saint Seiya) --- whole Greek mythology thingy

All of those hentai movies out there --- yea.... you know.... hmmm.... yea...

MIT Anime has a small cache of papers concerning the subject (they also have a class specifically concerning anime's influence on modern-day society and culture). You may find what you're looking for at the following web address:

Good Luck!

There's a website called Anime Research (http://www.animeresearch.com/), which posts academic articles on anime and manga. It doesn't really use anime as an educational tool; it's more of a study of anime itself, but you might find some useful info on film-making, cartooning, and Japanese culture (or at least Japanese pop culture).

Years ago, the Japanese public school system published some popular manga in a bilingual format, intended to help Japanese school kids learn English. I used to have one book that had Urusei Yatsura in Japanese and English. I don't know if they're still being published, but I supposed they could also be used to teach English speakers Japanese.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

You can learn a few educational things from anime and manga. I came from a non-english speaking family and yet I had to learn English from my friends and TV.

Sailor Moon- You can learn astronomy. I passed my planets test because of the Sailor Moon theme song.

Yu Yu Hakusho- It gave me a huge vocabulary list. (Especially from Kurama and Hiei)

Full Metal Alchemist- This anime is composed mostly of scientific studies of alchemy. Alchemy is real. It also gives some history lessons of China.

Most Anime- You can learn the language Japanese or a few others just by watching it in Japanese with english subtitles.
