I've been there. It's a very large place, so its more interesting to talk about specific places then to generalize. Kamakura is a beautiful place, don't miss the daibutus. Asakusa is very beautiful, a must see. Ueno Koen is a huge park, very popular. The Tokyo Tower is a typical tourist location, fun if you're into that sort of thing. meiji jingu is a wonderful shrine not to be missed. other things i hear are cool are the rainbow bridge, shibuya, etc. life in japan is very unique and not best explained in a short forum post. in any case, there are some other threads on this topic, i believe.
