Which is the better hand held system?
Link | by on 2007-07-17 15:47:08
Hey Gendou users. I need your opinion on which is the better hand-held video game system. Choices are :
Nintendo DS
Nintendo DS "Lite"
GBA SP
Play Station Portable(PSP)
"Those random electronic games, EX: Tiger Hand held, etc.

Any of your opinions will be appreciated.

(Listing any good games for either of those listed would be nice too)

Knock off the original DS. DS Lite is everything it is only better. Well... maybe the variety of colors it comes in not so good.

I never bothered with thos Tiger hand helds. You start to lose interest with them after some time.

GBA SP is only worth it for the GBC and older games and GBA. If you only have GBA cartridges, go for the DS Lite and play them there.

PSP. If you haven't gotten one or you want a new one, wait until September for the newer slimmed down version.

It comes down to your money and games you're looking for.

I, myself, prefer PSP. But since my sibling has a DS Lite, that's why it's all balanced.

Mmm.. Ok personally i wanna get PSP because it has the music and pictures, etc. features. But I also like the DS for minigames, something i can just pop open and start playing.

But one thing i didn't know was that there is gonna be a new slim PSP in September, Thanks for updating me on that!

No problem, just spread the word I guess.

I tried hard to convince myself how my current PSP is good enough by thinking "Well, I actually gotten used to having my index fingers under the L R buttons. but if I were to hold the slimmer one, it probably wouldn't feel the same."

I'm still keeping my PSP right now, bottom line. If they come out with 2 analog sticks, THEN I'm going for it.

Too analog sticks? Sounds confusing to me but a great idea =D

BTW: anygood games for the PSP you reccomend? I haven't heard much in a while.

I have a PSP and my sister has a DS Lite, the only game I've had any interest in on the DS has been Pokemon, because let's face it, you always play Pokemon no matter what version comes out. Anyhoo. . .

Good games for PSP depends on what your into.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - Action, Stealth, Shooter
Lumines - Puzzle
Valkyrie Profile - Tactical RPG
Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner - RPG

and there's also Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 2, but you've probably already played the SNES, PS1 or GBA version if your into RPG. (Why do they keep remaking those two games? Remake a different one for gods sake.)

If you like fun games (ie. minigames) go for WarioWare.

Ace Attorney is good.

mario Kart DS is only worth it if you think you'll race with others or if you just enjoy it solo. Because after unlocking everything and no one to play, there's not much you can do.

Resident Evil and other horror games are good too. RE is just for laughs at the translation.

Wait a while and later this year there'll be Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The one game that definitely uses the potential of the DS.

The only hand helds I ever had were the GBC and GBA.
I only played Pokemon games on the GBC, but on the GBA, I had other games, too (forget the titles) including Pokemon. XD

The problem I had with the SP was that you couldn't use headphones with it. That means when you're in a public place, such as an airplane, you can't listen to the great GBA music and sound effects.

Personally, I like the PSP, because if you buy a PSP with a certain firmware, you can create a custom firmware for it, meaning it will be updated, but you can also play NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. roms on it. The best part of it is, if you get a big enough memory card, you can also play PSone games on it. Imagine, Final Fantasy 8 on a road trip, or Metal Gear Solid on a plane.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of doing all that, then DS Lite is better. It's more user friendly and has a lot of cool games you can buy.

That is a bit of trouble right now, but sometime this year Sony is supposed to be releasing a PSP Store (So you can buy cheap PS1 games for your PSP FROM the PSP instead of having to get PS3 to do it.>.> Which is what I'm really waiting for. I'll be putting FFVII and Legend of Dragoon on mine personally.).

Oh and for the DS, if you haven't played it before, you could get Final Fantasy 3 (Since it didn't get released over here until DS.). I've played it a little, it's not bad but for some reason I'm wishing they kept it in 2-D.

It is a pity that they rendered everything in 3D in that game. I guess they just thought that the younger people would like the new graphics more. :/ I always liked Final Fantasy sprites.

PSP for the features, DS for anime games. For PSP games I recomend Dragonball Z Shin Bodukai Another Road, and Sonic Riders. For DS, any pokemon games, Elite Beats, Spectrobes, and Naruto Ninja Council 3.

ps1 titles on mine
FF7,8,9,RE3,MGS1,Legendofdragoon,chronotrigger etc.
for isoloader games get
bleach heat the soul 4
Gundam games
all the cool japanese games that you download off torrents
new cheap low price of 40bucks for a 4gig mem card.

NDS lite, umm cheap cash for cheap nothingness but crap kids games..
I have one too just for pokemon and ninja gaiden and i heard Maplestory for DS is coming out.

So I recommend getting both.

I have both the PSP and DS. So far I like the DS more because it has more games that appeal to me.

I think the DS Lite is more practical for a portable gaming system. It's not as delicate as the PSP, the price for it is friendlier, you don't have to endure a lot of loading times on the go, and it currently has a much longer battery life. Where the PSP is better than the DS, connecting online is much easier, storage of other media if you're into that, and it's fairly easy to download games for free on it, as well as ripping your own games... Like everyone said, it all depends on the games you're into and if you care for movies, music, and photos.

The slimmer model coming out is supposed to have a longer battery life and fix a few other inconveniences. If you decide to go for the PSP slim model, maybe you should wait and see if it's decent by checking out other people's reception to it.

Games I look forward for the PSP: Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Dissidia...

Games I'm Looking Forward to on the DS: Rune Factory Fantasy harvest Moon, that Zelda game coming out for it...

personally I rather have the ds/lite as unlike the PSP it has playable games. So what if the PSP can have images videos and music that is what a MP4 is for and it is more fragile than the DS and finally the DS is more inovative than the PSP the DS proves like the Wii than gameplay is better than graphics.

I personally find it hard to choose between the two. Being psp can support videos--anime on the go but Ds means--Cheaper and game roms for downloads. However, game wise, i'll go for more games that are anime related...

I give the Nintendo DS the edge for a few reasons:

1) You can still play GBA games, as well as DS games on it
2) It actually has a wider selection of games than PSP
3) It is the more innovative of the two (with the touch screen and microphone of the DS)

Other than that, the PSP is disc formatted, which leads to longer loading times as compared to the DS and it's cartridge based games. Not only that, but the DS is also much friendlier on the wallet, with cheaper games.

i just recently preordered the japanese slim psp crisis core bundle which has the FF7 pics and sword strap with the customized earphones and it costed me about 400. If you have the cash to spend on a psp you should use it but if your poor, go with the DS.
Im playing emulated games on the psp so its more worth it for me i think.

i can play gba on it, the innovation of the new one is the compatibility with hooking up to the tv, a tv tuner add on, and youll get more japanese rpg's and action games the one im looking forward to is dissidia, and coded arms contagion.
