ok um here';s the deal gundam is divided into different timelines the original gundam(amuro ray, char aznable, camille vidan etc) up to gundam x covers the universal century and after war timelines then gundam wing covers the colony era(i forgot what its called and its not related to the universal century series) then gundam seed and destiny covers the cosmic era, again it has no relation to wing or the other gundams.... so you can go watch seed and destiny then go watch wing...yo wontbe confused as long as you watch the series that are related like seed and destiny and wing and endless waltz...however the original gundam is related to gundam z and ZZ but the rest are in different perspective if your still confused check wikipedia! |

Well , from what I know , the first ever GUNDAM series would be Mobile Suit Gundam Seed , then Gundam Wing (These are all old GUNDAM , probably 10 years or more back) . But what I do know is that they're seperate show with the same mecha theme . If you want the newer series , you should start with Gundam Seed first ^^ . |

0080: War in the Pocket. If you're going to end up only watching one Gundam series ever, you should watch this one. If only to say you gave the franchise a shot and saw the best it had to offer. |

You guys are approaching this all wrong, you need to approach it according to what the person's tastes are first to give them a series they'll enjoy to get started on and then move into the rest of them. So Chocoholic: What kind of genre's of shows do you like (or name a few of your favorites)? If you like Shounen stuff like Bleach, Naruto, my will-is-stronger-thus-I'll-beat-you-even-if-I'm-weak type shows, then I'd recommend starting with G Gundam or Gundam Seed. If you like deep philosophy/complex plots, I'd start with Gundam Wing or Gundam 0083/0080. If you just want something with mechs blowing the shit out of each other and not caring much about plot, I'd watch Gundam Seed Destiny (you can skip GS in this case since it really won't make much of a difference). There's other categories, so if you give me more specifics on your tastes I can recommend some, but I'm gonna stop there for now.

Well, if you realy intend to watch the whole series, I suppose it'd be best to start with the original. Not only because of its significance to the franchise and mecha anime as a whole, but it also represents the introduction to the Universal Century timeline, in which most entries in the franchise are set. As such, the main character's exploits through the series and subsequent sequels span many years, and its effects are felt for many decades afterwards. The alternative, of course, is to select from the various alternate timelines in the Gundam franchise, which usualy consist of one or two series in a relatively short time-frame. Said alternate timelines are often introduced very ambitiously, but tend to be abandoned after only a few entries in favour of a new alternate universe. Personaly, I think it'd be better to start with the original series, or better yet, the movie compilations thereof. Of course, being produced in the late 70s, they realy do show their age, as this spoilerific amv should demonstrate. Now personaly, I started with Gundam Wing and chanced uppon the first original movie when I was rather young. I passed it off as 'old' and 'ugly' and went back to watching Wing. It wasn't until later, years later, that my interest in the original was rekindled by, of all things, a bad model kit commercial (notable in that it described Char as 'sinister!' Char isn't sinister!) Ultimately, if you're looking for an introduction to the franchise as a leisurely viewer, you can't go wrong with Wing or Seed. But if you intend to stubbornly endure the visual shortcomings of earlier shows, watching the original first (and following the UC chronologicaly before moving on to the alternate universes in Seed and Wing) will give you a much better insight on the franchise as a whole and, (imo) expose you to much better stories. |

At some time in your gundamfest, get around to watch 08thMS Team. Its my favorite gundam series, and somewhere in my top 5 fav animes ever. Though I have to be honest, I don't really consider it a part of the gundam series. The focus of it isn't on gundams whatsoever. It is a good'ol fashion love story. Can't really say more without ruining all 13 or 14 episodes. |

@saiyukisilhouette: What the heck are you talking about???? Gundam Wing has absolutely NOTHING to do with Gundam Seed, Naturals, OR Coordinators. It's a completely different TIMELINE!!! @raisin: Oooooh, yeah! I forgot about that one...people tend to like 08th MS Team alot, even though most people I know that like it don't have a clue what's really going on. Still, it's a good short series.

Seed is okay since it at least has some originality and a decent plot, But don't even bother with Seed Destiny. It is an EXACT clone (even down to the enemy MS basic designs!!) as Zeta Gundam, which is far superior in terms of being official Gundam canon and overall coolness. Seed Destiny is no more original or entertaining than that flop of a movie that hit theaters called, "The Marine". At least Kamille had a cool side...Shinn doesn't.

@piroripthecrap: DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING?!?!? I'm sorry, but anyone who does not have at the very least proper respect for the originals shouldn't have the right to call themselves a true gundam fan. Just because it's not digital doesn't mean the animation quality is poor. Just so you know, anime used to be done on things called CELS before computers were good enough, and for it's time Gundam 0079, Zeta Gundam, 0083, 0080, 08th MS team, and heck, even Double Zeta Gundam were all amazing in terms of animation quality for their time! Neon Genesis Evangelion was done on cels too (and in case you don't know, that's where the name Gendou for this site comes from). Seed by itself is fine, Destiny is nothing more than a 100% rip off of Zeta (both in plot and mech designs/character plots), and stargazer -though much better in the animation department than the other two- lacks in plot development even if it does rely on Destiny! I highly recommend that you learn about the history of anime (like how it started out, and not just Gundam either) before you go around spouting nonsense. EDIT: I'm sorry, normally I don't get flustered like this, but I just couldn't let someone off with bad mouthing ALL of the gundam series that had any meaning and even the animation industry as a whole before 'the year 2000'........ Yoshiyuki Tomino would probably swear his head off (and roll over in his grave if he were dead...) if he ever heard the comment on the post before me...
