(I sure hope I spelled that right!) I was flipping through a doujinshi today and I noticed that in some of the pannels, after someone said something, it would say (笑). I know that that's the kanji for "warau" but I don't understand why it appears in parentheses after random statements in manga. Can someone please explain? |

It's the equivilant of when someone types j/k after they say something and want to make sure it's taken as a joke and not seriously, since sarcasm is hard to express in type.

I'd say it's like lol... Me and my friends use it a lot. I guess it appears in paretheses because it's like a side note, or murmured. Sample: I was walking one day and I saw this reely weird car. It was red w/ a white lining in da front right and a green door. Reminded me as Christmas... (笑
