If I understand your first question right, you are asking: Will social networking websites become a major focus of the Internet? I think the answer is, clearly, yes. Social networking sites have become quite popular in recent years. 3 of the top 10 websites ranked with alexa.com are social networking sites (myspace.com, orkut.com, and facebook.com). soon nobody will go on What does this mean? Are you claiming that social networking websites will soon become vacant? That does not seem at all likely. Not even close. Quite the contrary, they are growing in popularity worldwide. My personal opinion is that social networking sites, when they become an overused, can be unhealthy, just like any other entertainment. Friends on the Internet is not a substitution for friends in real life. Although, the lines are quite blurred with community-oriented sites like facebook. Social networking sites are good for keeping in minimal touch with old friends, but can also be helpful in the workplace. |

I think it's fine, if you want to share your life story and personal info with all the people (don't forget the creepy people either) in the world then it's your business. Like Gendou said however, when your start overusing it then it becomes a big problem. Personally I don't use them. I do have profiles on sites like imeem, here at Gendou and Youtube which has some 'social networking' involved and I have some info on myself there, but those sites offer something like music hosting, video hosting, etc, and I join for that. do you guys think that because there are so many... it'll just be something associated with the internet This isn't something to think about, it's already associated with the internet. When you say 'internet' the first things that come to people's minds are "pr0n" and myspace. People will always be signing up and getting hooked on those sites. So just like WoW, social network sites will live forever. |

Another interesting topic is blogs, which blur somewhat with social networking sites. Blogs are changing media from its pure capitalism to more of a democratic system. This is a good thing, if you ask me. That's a bit off topic, sorry. |

I don't care much. I use facebook myself, but I don't find myself on it for hours like a friend I have. It's fine as it is. Sites will die out eventually and transfer to new ones. I just want a place where there wouldn't be stuck-up children in them. Myspace is full of them. Including some sexual predators. Heck my sister quit Myspace b/c some random guy asked for her breast size. I wish Facebook was still only for college students and such, but NoooOOOOoooo. Well, at least I have Gendou.com >(^.^)< |

my views on social networking... besides gendou and animeost.net, i find them to be real boring after awhile and somewhat creepy in other ways. For example: i used to love myspace but after seeing what it does to people and by that i mean someone stuck on it for more than an hour and or them being kidnapped because theyre not being smart. overall i do agree with gendou-sama.But i do also believe you can overcome overusing by just limiting how long you can stay on those kinda sites.
Part of the new age Gendou RP veterans: Kira, Rukia, KM Revolution, Smoker, Avian, L, and Ryu.

"Including some sexual predators." Some? I think your understating that just a tiny bit there SkyL. Myspace is like a predators grocery store, everything is neatly organized and right before your eyes to pick from. That's the major problem with social networking sites. Blogging is very similar to social networking. Most social network sites, if not all of them include this in some form. I don't see why this is so popular as far as personal use goes. If you want to keep a diary, write it or use wordpad. Somehow I doubt your going to put sensitive info about your life where others can see it freely and what else is there to write about? Is it really that interesting to read what other people had for breakfast today? Then again if Gendou is down with it and it's sticking it to Capitalism then more power to it. As far as I'm concerned, as long as your not putting any info up that could give away your location or ways for random people to contact you then it's fine. Well, it's fine, assuming you have the smarts to realize when someone is trying to lure you into a meeting. |

Well, I'm glad Facebook provides that option to pick who can read your most important stuff and who can't. Lol, My wording was a bit off in my comment lol. Haha, I love it how you describe them like a Grocery Store. Haha |

ha ha predator grocery store well it is true on myspace (or any other social network) people can be so stupid i had thought it was a great website before i mean you could see old friends and maybe make new ones (but once again be careful) for example, in the 5th grade my friend moved to florida i thought i would never see her again but then my other friend said she had a myspace i went on (or rather my friend went on) and we saw her picture she looked sooooo different we sent her a message and she replied i was sooo happy i hadn't spoken to her in 3 years so anyways, social networking is good but like gendou said, its being overused and that's unhealthy i also like how you said "Friends on the Internet is not a substitution for friends in real life" i found this quote on aots and i thought i should post it here "Did you know that there are literally thousands of websites with social networking features? What’s astounding is, those sites aren’t hurting for people willing to sign up and utilize whatever feature they believe is going to revolutionize the way humans interact. However, managing accounts on a multitude of different sites (like MySpace and Facebook) has become a full time job for some. Are there simply too many social networking sites out there?"

My opinion about them: They're the most visited kinds of website, together with searching sites (Yahoo, Google) |
