Traveling to Japan...

I would appreciate any tips. Right now I am looking into doing a travel tour package that takes me around to various sites, and lasts about 9 days. But, I wish I could stay longer. Also, I was thinking of hopping over to China, as well. Or, I would stay in China for about two weeks and then jump to Tokyo for three or so days. I have looked at various travel sites for those packages, I even got some help from a Chinese lady that works at an oriental novelty shop in the mall back home. My plan is to go there over the summer, likely around May 20th or so; which would give me a chance to settle back down back home after finals and then pack up to leave.
