All movies based on games suck and vice-versa.

Exceptions to someguy's comment:

Mortal Kombat (good, but not great)
Resident Evil

Oh, and do not watch anything Uwe Boll makes. BloodRayne was terrible, and I have no doubt that "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" (good grief, what a terrible name) will be no different.

i fell this movie will be a good one since the other ones did suck so horribly

plus it doesn't feel like the movie didn't come from a game but yet it did

As far as game based movies go Super Mario Bros. was one of the worst, however Silent Hill wasn't that bad. Judging from the trailers however, I might go and see this one.

However I must disagree with ivary's comment on all games based on movies being rubbish. Especially with the Lord of the Rings games, which are actually pretty good.

Well I guess not ALL game based movies suck. I guess I was overlooking a few good ones.

I think a game based movie (or the other way around) which follows the original version's plot/storyline proves that the director is creatively impotent and the producer is financially dying or just greedy-needy. I'll watch this one though.

It is true that without altering the plot it would prove to be "boring" since people would already would probably know what will happen...

The problem here itself is their so called "creativity"

What they add/change in the mix is what destroys the essence of the plot.

For example:

The reason it failed is because the director's "creativity" didn't work.

Heck... I would rather watch HK's version...

Some other failed movies are listed: House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, etc...

My suggestion is that they should have just made a film... and never used a game title in the first place. (However the reasoning here is: People watch it because its [Insert Game Title here] )

"Postal" one of Uwe's recent releases received better reception from viewers than his other movies combined together. I believe that if it had a different title. It would have worked. (Well, it didnt even seem to be related to the game in anyway whatsoever.)

Lets add anime in the mix.

People would hope that animated versions would do better since a lot of restrictions in a live action are gone.

Here. If you recall is the Anime version of Street Fighter 2 which really is running closely to the original plot and yet it is still different.

However...

Anime also has its failings in game-based movies like Battle Arena Toshinden and Samurai Showdown( or spirits) because the presentation and altered plot did not work

In the end. It really does fall to the director's (or writer!) "Creativity" to make it work all together.

PS: Oh yes... Did you know? That in the live action Tekken movie:

- Kazuya raped Jun
- Jin is a Drug addict
- Law is Jin's rival

...need I say more?

Oh and RE fans...

Resident Evil:Degeneration

AC really made such an impact in the CG movie industry...

Did the director really detract from the Tekken games that much? It seems like he's totally disregarding the games, a mistake that will kill the movie.

If you're gonna make a movie based on a video game, then at least make it seem like the games were an inspiriation. Don't make changes that make the games seem irrelevant. (See BloodRayne, Street Fighter)

Unfortunately I cannot find the site which had such information regarding the Tekken movie... But I seriously hope that they have changed it from the time I found it out...

They say filming would start next month so...

That dungeon siege looks nice. Hey, didn't they make a Tekken anime? I think it revolves around Kazuya, I didn't know they were making a film.
And not all movies from games suck and don't plot conform. Watch Hitman. Now that film is seriously impressive. It's got everything that a Hitman film would need. 47 is true to character and there are even other agents and double crosses going on all over the place. It's all done in true Hitman style, even the camera play and such looks like it was pulled from the game. And that's all befroe you get started on th weapons...

Ooh, Tekken the Movie... so risky X_X I adore playing Tekken games. But in movie form? >_< Hope it won't suck. The anime movie was not my fav though.

I think Silent Hill is the best movie, based from a videogame. The story was twisted a bit, but the overall, whoa, really creeps me out. Now that's what I call a real horror movie.

SF: Legend of Chun-li was an epic fail.

No sign of Tekken yet and Prince of Persia is still in the works.

Well, here is the another game-to-big screen...

Shadow of the Colossus

Brought to us by the same script writer who made SF: Legend of Chun li.

No game to movie adaptions have been good, mainly because of the monster known as Uwe Boll.

Alone in the Dark - One of the worst movies in history, appearing in the top 10 of just about every Worst Films of All Time list I have ever seen.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale - Another one of Uwe Boll's shambling husks of cinema.

Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li - Well, we all know that this one sucked, it came out only a few weeks ago.

Street Fighter - Funny, but only because of how bad it was.

Advent Children - A great looking CG movie, but it didn't exceed expectations mainly because of the focus on the action over the characters. It was alright.

Resident Evil series - The first movie wasn't too bad, but the second and third were outright boring. These RE movies were all about watching the main girl completely decimate any form of undead creature in her way using her genetic strength and abilities, as well as watching the cannon fodder characters get picked off one by one in typical fashion.

RE Degeneration - The animation was kind of stiff, and most of the characters seemed to only be there to make Leon look better by comparison. Like AC, it was alright, but nothing worth noting.

Postal - Even the video game had more sense than this. The movie was only made to offend as many people as it could and get in as many crude shots as they could manage with lame jokes to fill in the rest. Another "film" by Uwe Boll. Oh, and I disagree Lu. Not well received.

Bloodrayne 1 and 2 - Both of them were made by Uwe Boll, the second one was a straight to DVD release, I shouldn't have to say any more than that.

Far Cry - The movie isn't out yet, but it's almost ready, and it's another Uwe Boll film. There is no game franchise that man will not ruin. He has to get his hands on everything.

Also, how can you make a movie out of Shadow of the Colossus? The game barely had a single line of dialogue. Part of the greatness of the game was it's simplistic premise. It's like making a live action Legend of Zelda movie. *sighs*

Good thing tons of them get stuck in development.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
