I am thinking to pick up some great rpg titles, but I have some doubt need to be answer before I decide. I see people discuss all kinds game here so I am sure alot of you have play these games. Hope you guys done mind!! >< Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria Is this game as great as the 1st one, Lenneth? People said the 1st one was so great that it was one of the best classic RPG. But I dont own a PSP nor I want to try to play PS1 game on my PS2. So would Silmeria be a good replacement for Lenneth? hack//G.U. Is this game mix between real life and online world? Long time ago I watched .hack//Sign, it was kinda boring because it kept talking on real life issue but not much fighting. So I dropped the series. So I have a little doubt on //GU, altho alot review says its good. Do I need to play all 3 vol. of //GU to understand the story? Xenosaga 3 Same question, do I need to play 1st and 2nd to understand the story of 3rd? Rouge Galaxy Heard its great game but some people say Level-5 likes to make all their game the same plot/style(not sure what they mean), so is this really a great game? Grandia 3 A friend recommand me about this game but I have never heard of. Most review say its aveage. So hows this game compare to above? Last question!! If you are going to pick up 2 of those game above, which two would you choose? |

1. for silmeria well you need to play it for yourself, the system is somewhat the same, then the different is in the story 2. hack, i really recommend it, it was one of a kind system, and you don't get what you had in sign, well at least i recommend the first four .hack game, then goes to .hack GU since if you played GU you won't go back to sign, because (graphic) anyway both have great story 3. for xenosaga, yes you must have the first 2 game or you won;t understand the issue, 4. yes it is a great game, it's like KH (the system) and no loading time except event time, but well the story is somewhat classic, but you won't be disappointed by the cell shade graphic CG, its great 5 well this is the least from the above, but if you asked me what i have then i have all of them except xenosaga, but hey grandia come in two disc and have the unique gameplay, so it's fine well for me i pick .hack, the first game .hack game came in 4 series, then .hack GU came in 3 series, so for this well i think this is the decent one, but hey i'm .hack fans so don't take it personally, but really you won't disappointed in the story well for other then i might pick rogue galaxy some people might consider the xenosaga, but well they say the story got drifted pretty far from the original xenogear world so... you know my answer hope this help ^^ |

So let me get this straight.. The first 4 .hack games are story of .hack//Sign? Does .hack//Sign has any connection with //GU? If I wanna play //GU, do I need to get all 3 epsodes and start with the 1st one? Can I trasfer items/levels from 1st to the 2nd or 3rd or are they totally seprated game? I have some experience with FF11 online, is .hack //GU a game trying to simulate MMORPG? What do you mean by Rouge Galaxy has classic story? Is the story kinda like Star Ocean 3 or FF12? Thanks for your answer. |

I can only answer a few from your list since i haven't played some of them... Valyrie Profile Silmeria Personally my fave PS2 RPG! If you remember from the original the area of Dipan...where Lenneth fought the headless knight/king. The story of Silmeria basically tells what happened to that place. So it is a semi prequel to the original. The battle system is almost the same....the main difference is that you can now move around but the button combinations are identical. The exploration is the same as well. You move the character 2D style...but istead of ice crystals Silmeria has what you call photons that freezes the enemies but you can't make ice blocks. So the puzzels are trickier than the original. Wait until you get to the Seraphic Gate where you have to use your knowledge of photons at sometimes crazy ideas. To answer your question...if you haven't played the original Silmeria is just as good. It is harder at times than the original & the difficulties of it can be overwhelming at times as well. The payoff is satisfying though. Xenosaga 3 For the most part yes playing the other 2 will give you a better idea of the storyline. For me the first & 3rd ones are the best...the 2nd game was such a big letdown. They made such a vast game for the first one only to dumb it down for the 2nd making it too short & too easy. the battle system for it as well bascailly sucked. the 3rd game made uo for the disappointment of the 2nd. The series was planned for 6 games but due to lack of funding & poor management they made it into a trilogy & crammed everything they can think of into the 3rd game. Most of the questions from the first 2 games are resolved yet the ending left hints of a possible continuation. Everything for the 3rd game is improved....from battle system...to challenge....so even if you haven't played the others ....the game will still entertain you. Telos absolutely ROCKS!!!! Kos-mos kicks @$$ as well! Rougue Galaxy The game is kinda similar to Star Ocean....their is ALOT of customization in the game....maybe too much! The story is decent but nothing that haven't been done before. The jist of it is you are a 'normal' boy looking for adventure & is lucky to be re-cruited by pirates (mistakeing you for someone else). You go on missons....until you discover you aren't entirely 'normal'....so you uncover your past & with your companions save the universe from a 'god-like' being. Of course there are side-quests galore...battling the 'fake big boss' that is just a pawn....buy stuff...shoot stuff...slash at stuff....puzzle solving occasionally....did i mention customization...with a frog no less...finish the game...save...all your stats are used for next play through....oh! an optional dungeon with over 100 floors! Grandia 3 Not as good as past Grandia games....the first few hours are probably the best cause after awhile the most interesting character (your 'mom') leaves your party. After that it is a pretty linear game. You go from one place to another....do a mission...kill the boss....repeat....while meeting new characters that will be part of your posse. An okay game but after you finish it there really isn't any replay value. .hack series I may be the only one but i've never played the game before...mainly cause when the games come out i find another one that i'm more interested in so never played it. ************************************************ if i have to pick 2 out of the list...of course Silmeria & Xenosaga 3. I have all of them except the .hack game. The two i picked to me are the most satisfying....besides the originals VP & Xenogears for the PS1 are some of my all time fave games ever!!! which is why i still have my original copies of them. |

well like izumo said, rogue galaxy while it look awesome has a classic RPG story, but what can we done in the game are different matter, it way to huge to cover for .hack game, no, it's not the same as .hack sign, it separate game, if my memories are correct it has 2 years game in the story from .hack sign to .hack game and yes, that is why it recommend that you played from the first part, since all item and level are convert + adding something (secret in .hack GU) and bonus in the next series, that is the typical of .hack. but because of that you max level per game are limited, because avoiding over level in the next game so here it is the for .hack game can convert data meaning from final save in .hack1 ->.hack2 ->.hack3 ->.hack4, they all transfer level and item( item meaning all item, including key item, equipment and all that in your storage) then because there is a huge time gap for .hack GU if my memories are correct about 6 year, data from .hack4 can be transfer to GU alloted for extra email then the phase repeated again .hackGU1 -> transfer all to .hackGU2 -> .hackGU3 then about the question should you play all of them, well for instance no, because they had summary system in .hack but i don't know about GU since i played them from the first (i played .hack from the second one then i bought the first and the rest to played all over again) |
