Releases this Summer break in US: Some more gameplay footage: Awww, too bad I won't have a chance to play it. Pff, I've never even had a chance to play the third one yet. :/ Two new characters (among other new ones): I think they're only available in America though, not sure. I didn't see them at all in the Japanese trailer. ------- |

Yeah, it is a misfortune. No Second-gen releases anymore? Weak. Though I saw some of the other new characters. They look pretty cool. :P Also, Darth Vader also has his assistant, too. ------- |

Got my spiffy Collector's Edition pre-ordered (Loves CE's, LE's and SE's on certain games) PS3 version for me, got to play as Darth Vader, Yoda seems a little too. . . bouncy I guess. |
Re: Soul Calibur IV

I prefer Yoda over Vader, but the Character i'm looking forward to is Angol Fia, The one that looks like Angol Mois from Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog). Keroro Gunso is awesome! |

I've played the demo at AX, and it was really fun. I'm looking forward to Hilde, though I always play Sophitia. :P |

The finishing moves look cool, I'm just worried if they'll be impossible to pull off or not. Seems like you will have to do a lot of chopping away before you can break all the armor and do the finisher. Although it does seem kind of easy to do it once you are able, I mean mash all four face buttons? Come on. |

I think it's kinda cool, though honestly I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan on Earth. Still, it'd be kinda cool to see how you can use them since you can purchase better upgraded weapons. The Light Sabers seems simple, so who knows, haha, plus you can "use the force", so that's kinda cool. ^_~` I'm curious about the other characters, too. They seem intense. ------- |

I got mine the day it was out. Collectors Edition. It isn't bad overall, I find the gameplay is a little better than the other SC's, but I have more than a few complaints. Chronicles of the Sword - I want to know why they took this out, I liked the RTS/choose your path kind of modes and it had a story to go with it. Instead they replace it with the Tower of Souls or something which has no story and is just a group of fights stacked against you that you can keep playing through. Ascending the tower has you fighting bosses, Descending it is just a survival mode and nothing more. Story Mode - Is pathetic. Enough said. It's 5 Stages (The final stage pretty much being the final boss which is only different for Siegfried or Nightmare) or just fighting random people with their opening lines trying to indicate a story. You can blow through it for a character in about 10 minutes and only the ending event sequence is really different for the characters. It's probably the worst mode in the game, especially since this game more than any of the other SC's seemed to have been pushing a more story heavy angle. The Apprentice - Is cheap as hell. He has speed, power, he can levitate and shoot lightning, he's just completely unbalanced. Yoda - I played the 360 Set-up at EBGames because I had to try him out. As I thought he works horribly in SC. He can't be hit by high attacks unless he's in mid air, about half of your attacks go over his head actually. He is 100% Immune to any kind of grapple attack, he can't even be grabbed by another Yoda. He would get even worse if you fight someone online who's practiced with Yoda and knows all of his moves. Weapons - You know how they call SC the premiere weapon based fighting game? Doesn't feel anything like that. All the characters still have their sig weapons, but it isn't a focus anymore. In the other SC games you could purchase weapons throughout the game, read in depth descriptions on them, in SC3 you had weapon and armor shops devoted to that which was a great idea. In SC4 you don't get that, you have to drag the SC cast or your created character into the Character Creation screen, create an entirely new version of the character and then select the weapon you would like most. The weapons only cost like 8000 gold max too, so it's not like you ever need to save for a cool one you like. All the weapons are right there with some that you need to buy. All you do from there is select it and add a skill or two to it. That's all you get to do with the weapons. You don't get to choose which weapon you want to use at the selection screen or anything like that, you have to create a new 'costume' in order to change their weapon. Then you have to try and remember just which costume has the weapon and skills best suited to the battle you're going into. There's no place to go, like a shop or screen where you can view weapons for all the characters and buy them to use in battle. You just select them in character creation. Character Creation - It seems a bit nicer, you can adjust things like physique or breast size, hair color and skin color but the biggest complaint is the fact that they removed the custom character sets, the unique classes that they had in the last game. Now you're only able to create a clone of the main SC cast. Plus, you can only select the main fighters, you can't use the fighting styles of the bonus or guest characters. That means you can't use Darth Vader/Yoda/Apprentice lightsabers (understandable I suppose), the iron bat thing one of the anime inspired characters use, a staff type weapon used by Angol Fear, a really quick thin sword used by this elf girl, and the one that ticks me off the most, the twin katana's that Shura uses which I thought to be the most awesome looking weapons and fighting style (vanishing attacks, spirit attacks and a cool throw up into the air that leaves you open to a choice of attacks on the falling opponent). All you can really do is choose a character like Taki or Cassandra and copy their moveset, phrases and everything then make a personalized version of that. What happened to the cool character classes like in the last game? When you could choose the clone method or go with unique classes like Knight, Dancer, Samurai, Ninja, it's just a huge let down. Unlockables - Another let down. There's a poor amount of artwork and other unlockables in this game. Just about every weapon is available to buy right away, there's no easy way to find what you just unlocked in terms of new accessories. There's maybe 10 Special pictures, the rest are just single pictures of the characters and a few CG models. No music, that has to be bought as downloadable content, almost all pics can be bought right away for 1 or 2000 gold which is nothing, there just doesn't feel like a lot to get. |

so gameplay > over features?! and character creation was even butchered?! what! that was the biggest innovation for SC3! my only grip with it is that you cant change the physique...(i mean a tiny girl wielding a giant axe?) but looks like SC4 handled that problem but removed most of SC3's features? wow...but its still awesome right? |

It's awesome yes, but I would place it lower than SC3 on the list in terms of quality. Also, I forgot to mention it but Matt brought it up, some of the characters have been changed around and aren't as good as they used to be. I would say Ivy got hit the hardest, she has three forms to her weapon (Sword, Coiled and Whip) so now you have to switch between three different weapon forms with her. Switching is also not as fluid and the biggest kicker with Ivy is that her weapon will return to it's Sword state after an attack, so you need to constantly switch back to her other forms. Everyone else has pretty much the same move sets, I haven't played with all the characters yet so I don't know if anyone else got messed up, but I guess according to Matt Raphael got it too. |

@Jonathon: Ivy did get it really bad. However, what I meant with Raphael is that he got like a super speed boost and he seems way faster than before. |
