. Hack//G.U. Series = Best Games on PS2?
Link | by You're Not Alone! on 2008-08-18 10:47:50
Hey everyone, Shuyin here - and I thought I'd show some love for my favorite series on the Playstation 2, the second .Hack series '.Hack//G.U'.

It is a trilogy, starting with 'Rebirth' then 'Reminisce' and finally 'Redemption'. It follows the story from the anime .Hack//Roots, being it's story after the show ended.

Following the character of Haseo like the Original .Hack games served to do with Kite, Haseo is like a totally different person most of the time then Kite. And actually, Haseo is prolly my favorite Character from an anime or game -- or at least tied up there. But bottomline is, Haseo is the main character and he rocks! :D

So has anyone else got to experience these awsome games? And if so, what do YOU think of them? Haha, to me the G.U series is the best series on the PS2! It has the awsome story, the characters, the awsome battle system, and the fields/dungeons that never seem to get old ( No matter how many times you have to go down the same dungeon in every game... Ehehehe @.@;; ).

In truth, I think on the PS2, .Hack//G.U. even beats out the final fantasy series ( Along with .Hack games, my favorite of all time series is Final Fantasy ) by a long shot. But I guess I should throw it up to you guys, and see what you think -- as I could keep going on and on about the games, hehe ~

The GU games were not that good to me. I liked the original .hack trilogy, but these felt like they hadn't made any improvements, while the rest of gaming had and because of that the controls weren't that great and the story could have been much better. I don't know, if I had to recommend any of the .hack games it would have to be the original trilogy.

Well GU trilogy games were, I might say one of the best I have played, yet storywise seemd to lack the depth I wanted by the end of the games.
It is truly a great game, but I wouldn't say the greatest.

Alkaid is my favorite girl by the way xD

G.U was good but I wouldn't call it the best game in PS2 just yet.I mean I prefer to play Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES.

But G.U is still within the top 10 most favorite games of all time for me.

With GU, when you tihnk about it, the story really is one of the most in-depth that you can get to. It invovles not only the prequel Anime ' .Hack//Roots ', but the Original .Hack trilogy. Everything comes into play with GU.

As far as the battle system and controls, they are VASTLY improved from the Original series. After playing GU, I found myself almost unable to play the original: Just because the controls were so much better and easier to get around with in GU. Not to mention, the battle system was in a completely different league then the original series.

And also, if you can't call GU the best series on the PS2 - it's at least up there as best RPG series ( Im not sure what Persona 3 is, Ive never played and dont know if it's an RPG or not, sowwy :O )

Either way, on the subject of marriage and all, and I had Haseo marry Alkaid and Atoli. I love the pairing of Haseo and Atoli! ^_^

And about the ending, I will say this: I do think the conclusion of Redemption ( Volume 3 ) could have gone alittle better. I expected more, but at the same time, it leaves it open for continuations! :D

i loved the avatar battles in GU and i feel you when it comes to trying to play the original hack games its just that gu was better even tho hack story was way better.

and persona 4 that square button makes it way better to play than persona 3 i wonder why they didnt think of it sooner.. i had to run all the way down from 3rd floor of gekkoukan high, take the train to get to places and the square button does it all now.

.hack//G.U. is by far, the BEST series for the PS2! As you can tell by my name, that Haseo is my favorite character, and also the most kick butt character out there.

I dont see why people rip on the game. It seemed flawless to me. I liked to see the transformations Haseo made through the series, not physically (don't get me wrong he had some awesome PC design), but emotionally. in Vol. 1, he was the stuck up, arrogant, mindless person he was at the end of .hack//Roots. By the time Vol. 2 ended, he was able to have compassion again thanks to his new friends. When Alkaid became a lost one was so sad, it made me cry TT.TTm but also, Haseo had to find out ovan, the person he trusted the most, was the one who had killed Shino and was the real Tri-Edge, not Azure Kite. Then, Vol. 3 came along, that volume, I believe, turned Haseo back into a Human being, and less of a beast. from the revival of all the lost one's, and in fact, Shino and Alkaid. But happiness didn't come without sadness. Ovan's lament and sacrifice crushed Haseo, but he wanted Haseo to surpass him from the start.

it doesn't just stop ther either. the series had a ton of other features as well. The sidequests, emails, and marriage events. The side-quests can be accepted from either the Quest Shop, or from NPC's around the towns. IE: the Flyer Pass Out, PK Hunt, and so on. You'll have hours adventuring. Then the emails. You can send e-cards to your favorite characters, and the Ai will actually send a response! Now that's clever. And last but not least, the marriage events. the marriage was introduced after you beat Vol. 3, and you could send an ecard to 1 character. That character would then proceed to tell Haseo to meet them at the Chaos Gate in mac Anu, followed by a series of pictures, of either a wedding between haseo and the receiver, or a bondage seen.

My favorite couple is Haseo and Alkaid. Those two just seem so perfect for each other, and you have to admit, they have the hots for each other! I went so far by sending ecards to Alkaid, that Haseo actually asked her to marry him in real life! How cute!

I was a little disappointed in the ending with Atoli. I think Shino shouldve told him to go after Alkaid, not Atoli, but I digress. lol

/end rant

^ I think Haseo/Atoli was kinda canon in the game, but I agree. Haseo/Alkaid FTW! <3

I'm in love with the game. XD I'm actually going through it for the third time. LAWL. Also, I'm planning either a Shino or Atoli cosplay for 2011. XDDD *shot*

Haha! Oh man, seeing this topic brings back some old memories. This was like the
first topic I made back when I had a horrible way to type in forum posts and had
horrible typo-checking eyes. I still typo alot [ rofl ] but I do catch them alot
easier! :D

ANYway, onto the topic ...

@Haseo —

I really liked the way Alkaid and Haseo interacted, but 95% of the time when it
comes to anime/game/manga couples, I fall in love with the actual pairing because
you get to actually see them ed up together, hehe. Alkaid was certaintly awesome,
but the fact you lose her for for most of the time after she joins you is a downer.

If Alkaid had stuck with you the whole time, my party would have probably ended up
as Haseo-Atoli-Alkaid. Though even though I liked her, I still loved Atoli more
as being with Haseo. [ I find it funny I never cared for ShinoxHaseo much in roots,
even though that was like the couple kinda. I guess something told me deep down
there was someone better - Atoli! :D ]

@Rixena —

DO BOTH I WANTS TO SEE GET LOTS OF PICS ALRIGHT K THX PLZ THX :DDD

Rofl, but really, you should do both. Pretty much the same outfit but different
colors and a few minor changes here and there. :]

@Shuy: I'm usually not the type of person to go with the mainstream, or predetermined choice. I'll choose whoever I feel fits Haseo best, and in this case it's Alkaid. Atoli just eems to gentle and frail for Haseo, while Alkaid has a fiery passion which could definitely keep a leash on Haseo. As for the HaseoxShino pairing, i only thought of that when i watched Roots, since the only of female player he really interacted with was Tabby. But in G.U. came a more assortment of female characters. I never really even thought of Haseo and Alkaid, until Vol. 2 when they went to that area, and Haseo gave Alkaid the Light Honeysuckle twin blades, the weapon that supposedly symbolized love. The saddest scene for me was Alkaid's death. I died a little inside when i saw that, and made me instantly hate Bordeaux even more. Although, that part of me was revived when Alkaid made her Dynamic entry in Vol. 3 to fight off Gomoras. Same goes for me with the whole party concept, I usually either use Azure Balmung and Atoli, or Alkaid and Atoli. I would use Shino maybe if I wasn't too lazy to get her weapon skill up so she could learn more healing spells.

Lol i just thought/realized this. One of the particular reasons I like Alkaid more than anyone else, is because I find her *coughcoughhotcoughcough*. And I've been using the name haseo on the internet for a while, so it's sorta grown as a second identity. And as play the G.U. games, I see it as myself, not Haseo XD So by me being taken by Alkai,d and having a second identity as Haseo, that's like, a dream couple for me XD

And about the game in general: I was a little disappointed we didn't really get any Edge Punishers in that game. The only ones in your party was Asta in Vol. 1 and Haseo's Job Extend. I also wanted to have more Macabre Dancers in my MA List than just Yata (at first I thought that Zelkova and Kaeda were Macabre dancers too).

I'm alos really bummbed that they never even tried to make an ACTUAL MMO based on the G.U. games. They made one in Japan but it was based on the Kite story, and servers went down in 2007, never to be revived. i would definitely by that MMO no matter how much it would cost. I already know my PC Design *_* Primary colors: Black, secondary: silver. Detail: red. Class: Adept Rogue Weapon: Blade Brandier, Steam Gunner, Edge Punisher. *_*
