I don't think you can "audition" to be one, you kind of just get ranked as one by your involvement with Japanese Media in Japan. Sai's right about being born Japanese as I think this is a Japanese-only type thing. Judging from other idols you have to have a nice fit body, good measurements (mostly) + looks, etc. Though if it went on solely from Japanese female's looks, they'd be millions of idols since a lot of Japanese girls are cute, pretty, hot, etc. There's a wiki on it, though avoid the AV-Idols. :P This is just my spin on it, though this isn't like America's Next Top Model or something here. ------- |

Well you have to give some names or something. Simply staring in a show or singing a song won't make you an idol just like that. You're involvement in Japanese media and how "marketable" you are, will make you some sort of idol. There are a few different types of idols in Japan I believe, like models and singers, all the way to adult film stars. ------- |

speaking of foreigner idol in Japan...I remember Leah Dizon...Do you know her? I think before she become known in Japan she tried to audition through sending her pictures in some Japanese modeling agency. Afterward she was accepted and asked to go to Japan. I think she is now a singer at the same time a model...

Yeah, but she's still part japanese right? And if her nationality is japan as well then i don't see a problem here. Hmm, thinking about it, maybe you can be a j-idol after all if you change your nationality. Wanna give it a shot? :D |

You know what, its easier if you can be an "IDOL" first. You need japanese friends that able to play instruments, or sing for something like that. Also, you need to know japanese very well if you plan to go further. You guys can form a local band, if you did good then you're good to go. Mostly, thats how everyone start. If you're not japanese or half japanese I doubt you'll be "J-idol" You can be a popular singer/band in japan but its hard to get recognize as "Japanese-Idol/band" If you're not part. But still you can sing japanese songs and join with others. The main part about this is being an "idol" not "japanese"-idol. hmm, kinda confusing myself now lol. Well, I'll edit my mistake later I can't see anymore. |

Oh..I've heard that there are some agency who scout for their talent, like horipro talent scout caravan. I think it's done yearly..but I'm not quite sure about their requirements. I also heard that their going outside the country(Japan) to scout for other talents, if I'm not mistaken they went to China... You might want to research on this agency...that's all..
