Disgaea 3....anyone else played it yet?
Link | by on 2008-08-30 07:29:30
I'm playing the game alot lately since it came out like 2 days ago & personally i think it is the best of the series so far. If you try not to get too worked up about the same old graphics which at times look too pixelated, but i guess that is a Nippon Ichi trademark. The gameplay & stuff you can do goes beyond what we've seen so far in past games.

Some stuff on gameplay.
- you can now combine skills to create new ones, kinda like the usual team-attacks.
- monsters can now transform into weapons (using magichange), it removes the character from play for that level but increases the power of the character using it. Prinny's change into high-powered laser beams!!
- so much stuff about 'throwing' a character...you can throw & catch, double throw, attack while holding (tower attacks)...etc!!!
- geo cubes are REALLY COOL!!! you stack same color ones to create chain reactions, can get some geting use to though.

- Your base is a classroom where you can do all the regular stuff in previous games, buy stuff at store, nurse office, create new 'students', assign seatings to improve team attacks, learn stuff from teachers, lots of stuff.

- the student council acts as the Dark Assembly (bribing is still here) but it works more like Disgaea 2. Bribe one faction the opposite faction disaproves.

- item world is back & it also is like Disgaea 2 (pirates, stores, etc)...though they are much larger.

The characters are pretty cool! Mao is cocky & is like a hardcore otaku! Rasberyl is the goody-goody character, she does the opposite what Mao does. She's the anti-demon student. There are many others but since i'm still early in the game i've yet to meet all of them. The dubbing is decent (Mao being the best) & the wackiness from past games is also present.

I've heard you may be able to download secret characters but i haven't tried it yet. Of course all things point to Laharl & the gang making an appearance.

I like to hear others of what they think of the game.

what they've done in this game is really interesting

- the Magichange is unique & also helpful though it has bad backfire

- the tower attacks REALLY brought the game up a notch by learning more Different tower attacks & how awesome they look too ;D

- Geo blocks are so much better since it makes the game much more of a Thinker than just destroying a simple Geo pyramid (ewwwww!!!)

- also it looks really, REALLY good on HD quality

if you ask me... this game deserves to be in league with other RPG's out there cause what they've done to this is what every fan out there have always wanted

9/10 ;D

Finished the game once & have unlocked: Master Bigstar, Salvatore & Prism Red so far. When i get home i'll work on the others...like Laharl, Flonne & Etna cause you know they'll be in the game for sure. I wonder who else is available?

From what i read it appears the characters from Disgaea 2 will be the ones downloadable in the near future. Which means we'll get to use Adell, Rozalin, Taro, Hanako, Yukimaru, Tink. Also available are Priere, someone called Kogure Souichirou and Pram,

Monster characters like Nekomata & Angels from Disgaea 1 are also available. Although these are only in Japan for now. A North American release is in the works.

As for the game i have i think all the secret characters: Master Bigstar, Salvatore, Prism Red, Asagi, Marona, Axel & of course Laharl, Etna Flonne. Getting these isn't to difficult at all, you basically have to clear extra stages to unlock them. The story goes most of the characters challenge Mao cause they think he stole their stuff.

Some of the stuff stolen are hilarious like Asagi's "new game", Prism Red's friends (his other rangers), Laharl's height, Etna's 1 trillion Hel, & the best of all Flonne's Super Ninja DVD box set! The real culprit is Baal who is a wierd looking mushroom...kinda resembles the mushroom guys in La Pucelle. He even TALKS!!! He kicked my ass the first time so i'm going through the item world to get levelled up.

I have the Yoshitsuna but apparently it's no longer the strongest sword cause it's rank is 39 & there are 40 rank items. I wonder what it could be & what it looks like. The Yoshi looks really cool!

If you go to Youtube you can see vids of the downloadable characters....some of them are quite funny how they show up. That Kogure character is perhaps the funniest of them all. He sort of looks like a guy in a suit...maybe a game designer or something like that.

Anyways the Disgaea 2 characters all have their usual moves from the game but revamped to look even better & they also have 1 or 2 new moves. You should see Taro's move HILARIOUS!! Speaking of which...watch the moves for that Kogure characters, the folks at Nippon Icchi have outdone themselves!!

BTW i've been wanting to ask this. For those who have played it what do you think of the job the voice actors did? Personally i think it is the best one yet in terms of dubbing. All the characters voices fit perfectly & they delivered in every way! Vic Monatague (Ed from FMA) who did Mao was the BOMB!!! He was so funny in it! Also the mexican Vato bros were priceless!

Of course Sandy Fox as Flonne is my all time fave...she's the best!

D3 is on my to-do list, along with buy a PS3. But my friend has it. Watching him play, I was a little confused. Never having played this series, I'll have to start at 1, but I'll make it there. It looks interesting, but the graphics disappoint me. I thought it'd have better visuals, being on a PS3 and all, but the gameplay seems to more than make up for that.

I was looking at it because I like the anime style, something lacking from this generation for the most part, but I'm not sure I'll be able to jump into the tactical style, I usually like the regular RPG's. Maybe after Bioshock and Little Big Planet.

The main complaint about Disgaea 3 is the graphics...some say that it can be made for the PS2. However the folks at Nippon Icchi state that Disgaea 3 can only be made for the PS3. Some of the effects of the game do state that opinion & it probably takes alot of memory that a normal DVD won't have.

For those who don't like the graphics you have to remember that is the style that Nippon Icchi uses for all their games. It is sorta like their trademark so changing it is kinda strange for fans of the company. You have to look pass the graphics & focus on the gameplay & overall presentation of the game.

There is alot of replay value in Disgaea 3 & you will spend ALOT of time trying to find everything in the game...often up to 100 hours. For example the previous Nippon games my game clock are as follows.

Disgaea (PS2 & PSP) - over 300 hours
Disgaea 2 - over 400 hours
Phantom Brave - over 200 hours
La Pucelle - over 100 hours
Makai Kingdom - over 300 hours
Disgaea 3 - so far 90+ hours & still have yet to max out my charactes.
Mao is at level 5000+, some are at 3000+, the Disgaea gang is around 3500+...done so by item manipulation & item world.

My strongest weapon is the Yoshi at level 120 with an attack of over 1 million. I haven't begun leveling up my Baal Sword which is the rank 40 sword.

Disgaea 3 is more or less my entry into the series (I only watched my siblings play the first two. We ran out of memory space >.<) and I've been playing it almost daily since it came out.
I have yet to beat it (too busy grinding ;P) and don't really plan to anytime soon :x (Not until I have reincarnated enough times to make me happy ;P)

But all the same, I love the way the game pokes fun at rpg cliches and everything with its clever jokes. <3 Nis America forver

I really am one of the fan of Nippon Ichi Square, but I didn't have the console for playing it... if only NIS would kindly remake it for PS2 even if the graphic won't be the same... I just want to see ze Demons from Disgaea!!!

And espescially, I wanted to see the Love freak's zilla! Does its graphic upgraded? how does the Zilla now? or is it deleted?

syaondri Wow... Sos brigade's tank won against a gundam... syaondrilet the flow of the time take us grow more than now

@ syaondri-san
Celebrate!!! Cause Flonne still has her zilla special move. It looks exactly the same as it did in Disgaea 2. Although in HD she looks bigger & there are more special effects. There are still 2 planes flying around her but she destroys one of them when she attacks.

I already mentioned this before but you guys/gals have to see the downloadable content characters. The first video is of Adel, Rozzy, & Nekotamata. Adell & Rozzy still have their same moves but wait till you see Neko. If you are a fan of Gundam you'll instantly recognize one of the moves XD!!!

Adel, Rozzy, & Neko - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMAKFHVhw1Y

The 2nd vid is of the Kogure aka. The Suit, Taro & Hanako. Just watch the hilarity that is Disgaea 3!!!!

The prices of games vary from country, it usually depends on the exchange rate. Since the US dollar isn't as strong as it use to be the price of games are actually alot cheaper. Here in Canada i got Disgaea for about $35 from EB games, cause i traded in some of my older titles for store credit & used them to buy the game.

Some more vids of available downloadable content!!!! This time featuring:
