What do people think of all the wannabe animes?
Link | by EndingsAndOpenings on 2004-06-29 20:50:43
I just wanted to know what kind reaction people are having towards the wannabe animes, such as "Totally Spies", "Teen Titans", and other american "copycat" style animes.

The truth will set you free. 15 years later: The truth hurts.

Me, not being that much of a fan of American Animation except for that adult swim stuff and the Simpsons thinks that it's dumb for Anime to be copied in American animatiom. The art in my opinion is what makes Anime so unique as an art form and by copying the art in American animation it is sort of killing the art of anime. I know I can't explain stuff good but I tried.

well american got there own way of makeing thier animation, but the american or not makeing fun of the anime culture. Let me say this a little more clearly, Anime stands for Japan animation and the animation for the american are name animation. Two differnt meaning. ^_^

Geez, there has to be a limit 4 lacking common sense! says:P

When considering anime as an art form you are bound to have people or groups who attempt copying the original in hopes of cashing in on it's popularity. However there are those who will attempt to use anime for the continuation and refinement of it as an art form. I know this because I took art history. As to whether it is bad or good though is sort of a given. Teen Titans pulled it off because the story itself almost seemed based on anime. Also Lyoko is not even American it's French, you can tell just by looking at the names in the credits. And as far as American "Anime" the mouse started the whole idea, but I much prefer Looney Tunes.

The way I see it, things have come full circle. Anime copied Disney, and now American companies are copying the anime style...

they're stupid. No argument, no nothing, they're just stupid. mass cartoon producers have been trying to copy japanese animation for years, but they dont have any one nearly talented enough (or smart enough really) to get any where close.

Death to copy cat anime!

well, the idea of using insanely huge eyes came from disney, and japan liked the idea so much they adopted it.. (kiba the white lion being the first japanese anime to use the concept)

i really cant say western/american anime are wanna bes; they got their own kind of style in drawing (notice the inking, bold colors, quite fluid animation) and same goes for japanese animation.

American cartoons suck. They suck.......badly.
1) PLOT- The biggest point of all, american cartoons use the one episode one problem/solution format, you can't make a good series without a continuing plot
2) they overexaggerated the art style
3) they use overused cliches and cliche catagories (card game series, etc.)
4) the plots they come up with suck ****

If I need to say more then you shouldn't be on this website, you should be watching Miguzi (Oooooohhhh!!!).

I hate them very much especially Totaly Spies and Martin Mysteries!! I hate them! Hate their 'pretend to be cute' attitude! Hate their episodes! Hate that B#TCH#S! HATE their FAKE Anime gimmick! Hate their humours! Hate ALL OF THEM!!! They tried to copy the whole Anime gimmick like the super-deformed figures, the humours, the big eyes(but they still looked small) and MORE... I didn't mind Americans to have their Manga some(i really mean it,only SOME) of them are nice but to these FAKE animes,I only say that it sucks and stiil looked MORE like Archie's to me..... Ueekkkkk!!!

HOW DO I FEEL TODAY?:
MY TODAY EMOTION ICONS

i think american cartoons should stick to their own style and not copy the style of anime. I mean there is alot of good american cartoons with their own style like family guy, the simpsons, the tick

I fear no evil for I am fear incarnate!

no doubt Code: Lyoko and such really... well sucks -_-....
this doesn't mean i'd condemn any form of American Anime because Some of it i enjoy even though im a pretty avid Japanese Anime fan i still enjoy Teen Titans, and even though that show did indeed take its basis from Anime Clearly its become its own style of Animation

one thing that separates japanese animation from western animation is not just the way it's drawn, but the stories and ideas being conveyed... let's face it, western animation is like amateur filmmaking when compared to anime.

No matter how much they pour money and special effects into western animation, as long as Hollywood and the American film community treat animation as "cartoons" and not a viable and serious artform, they'll always be considered second-rate...

What was the last American-made animation that actually had a deep plot and not riddled with clichés... and one that is actually not aimed at people younger than 13? ;)

Has anyone seen the Boondocks on Adult Swim. I'd take a guess and say that they tried to have the characters look like anime characters. I like the show for it's satire and for the stars that get their just rewards(like R Kelly), but then it's in anime style. They try to teach a lesson about how the struggle for equality for the dark skinned man is on going, but then you have an anime style. A Japanese style.

Teen Titans and Avatar are tollrable, surprisingly enough Duel Masters is anime sort of, it was made in Japan for North American and Japan release but just like the second Yu Gi Oh movie it bombed in Japan. Overall it is flattery to immitate anime but the results are generaly poor as stated before due to the weak plot and charecter development of most North American animated series (I use animated series because I feel cartoon describes childrens programing and animated is for any animated program) But overall Japanese anime is its own artform as is North American animation they both have their pros and cons and should not be so readily compared.
