Why do you hate Aerith/Aeris from Final Fantasy 7?

| Okay so far this question has been wondering in my mind lately and I want to what is your reason to hate her that much because a lot of my friends say they hate her but they don't give me a reason. |

I disliked her mainly for two reasons, the constant praise she receives from others, and I also found her to be relatively annoying (at least to me). I didn't enjoy her character as a whole, she often chimed in at times when I did not care to hear her opinion. Her character never really developed much in my view either, sure I learned more about her past and her part in the story from other characters, but she didn't seem to go through any development as a character herself, I didn't connect with her because she didn't attract my attention. I enjoyed seeing Cloud go from being an uncaring, apathetic mercenary only concerned with getting the job done, to a taking charge kind of guy who realizes that he has to step up in order to protect the people he cares about (aka Tifa) and preserve the world for the future of those who are here as well as the ones who gave up their lives for it (aka Aerith). I liked Cloud's style and the like. I liked seeing Tifa showing obvious concern and kindness for Cloud and dealing with him being a cold and distant person as well as trying to make sense of her feelings and the whole deal with her memories not being exactly what she thought they were, helping Cloud through all that and the way she slapped sense into Cloud after Aerith had died so he would stop moping around(AC shows it best). With those characters I felt as if I was learning more about their true personalities and characteristics, I felt as though I was connecting with them, understanding them, just being drawn into them. I never got that from Aerith (or Cait Sith, but I omit him because he's not one of the lead characters, that and he's a robot). Maybe it's because she was killed early in the game and I never got the chance to see her all the way through, at first thought I believed it was because of that, I just didn't get the chance to know her. Then again, I didn't get to know Lavitz very long in Legend of Dragoon and I still felt something for him when he was killed. I also didn't find any characteristic of her that I liked. I loved Vincent for his vampire look, cool outfit and his back story, he was a brooding guy but I found out later that he meant well and was actually the victim in his ordeal but believes he is at fault. I liked Barret's tough guy Mr.T appearance, his uneducated way of speaking, but also his underlying fatherly side that wants the best for his daughter and the guilt he has about Dyne and what he caused to happen to his hometown. I liked Yuffie's hyperactive, kleptomaniac, and lolita traits. So on and so on. Overall I believe Aerith is an excellent device for driving the story and motivations of Cloud, Tifa and the others to stop Sephiroth. As a character in her own right however, I don't like her and I didn't connect with her, so when she died I didn't cry or feel sad, I just saw it as a very strong twist to the story because it added kind of a universal motivation for the characters. I did not originally hate Aerith, I just didn't like her much, she wasn't appealing, however the constant acclaim she gets about how great of a character she is has bumped up my dislike to hatred. P.S: I do believe that Advent Children did go back on a few things with the established characters, but that's a discussion for another day. I refer to the game itself when I talk about the stuff above.    |

For me personally she's one of my fave characters in the game. There is actually no dislike for any of the characters in the game cause all of them has their positive & negative attributes...no one was perfect which is maybe why these characters has such an impact on fans. As for Aerith i instantly fell for her character...something about her attracted me to her. Maybe it was because she was the first character we actually saw in the game, or when she fell to the ground in the beginning before asking Cloud to buy a flower, her often childess behaviour towards Cloud even when she's older than him...i don't know something about her was mysterious to say the least. It wasn't late in the game that you find out who she really was....cause early on her development was a little scarce which again leads me to her mysteriousness (is THAT even a word :P). That may be a reason many people like her or dislike her cause you almost know nothing about her. Her past, her way of life, her parents, etc...some people are interested in the mysterious some are hesitant about it. I really believe like Jon-san that love her or hate her she's a pivitol character in the game/story & without her in the game i don't think it would've been as successful as it came to be. Some will disagree with me on that but that's just my opinion. I admit she's not a GREAT character like the many fandoms have cited her to be...she is an IMPORTANT character that you can say. Like i said earlier she's one part of a whole that made the game GREAT. Her death may or may not be sad (i found it unexpected so i was disheartened about it), but it was a turning point in the character development of Cloud. After that event he began to open up more with his feelings & his attitude towards himself. No longer did he characterize himself as a 'Soldier'/machine-like, he became more of a man. Though he did believe he was responsible for her death & wanted to be forgiven....as many of you know in Advent Children Aerith never felt that way. Although her love for Cloud was a case of mistaken idenity, i believe as the game went on she actually had feelings for Cloud. Not as Zack but as Cloud. She really cared for him which is maybe why she didn't tell him what she was gonna do...citing that he may stop her...hoping that in her death that he may begin to open up more. That of course is another subject entirely. Her sacrifice. It was her choice...that way of thinking from her is honorable to say the least. The only way to save everyone is to die. Not an easy decision to make. She accepted it, believed it was the right thing to do. How many of you can do the same? Love her or hate her....that alone i believe makes her derserve some kind of respectibility. Maybe that is the reason why i like her.  |

She just annoys me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. I <3 Sephiroth for killing her.
