It depends on what kind of visual novel you are looking for Jansuke-san.

Are you the kind of person that doesn't mind games that have more excessive adult content in it, or do you prefer more story oriented games, maybe ones that include more interaction ie:RPGs, tactical, card games, etc.

Here are a few of my faves that i've played over the years, i'll exclude the obvious games that have already been mentioned (CLANNAD, Tsukihime, Fate etc.) There are many more titles that are also worth playing as well.

Storyline based games
- Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (Age)
- MuvLuv / MuvLuv Alternative (Age)
- ToHeart / ToHeart2 (Leaf)
- Chaos;Head (Nitro+)
- Demonbane (Nitro+)
- Snow (Studio Mebius)
- Little Busters! (Key)
- White Album (Leaf)
- Memories Off (KID)
- Shuffle / Tick Tack / Really Really (Navel)

Interactive games
- Tears to Tiara (Leaf)
- Castle Fantasia 1-3 (Studio Ego!)
- Izumo 1-4 (Studio Ego!)
- Utawarerumono (Leaf)
- Baldr Force (Giga)
- Dual Saviour (Giga)

More Adult oriented games
- Summerdays (Overflow)
- Gekkō no Carnevale (Nitro+)
- Katagura (Innocent Grey)
- Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro (Ciel)
- Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito (Root)

Planetarian: chiisana hoshi no yume

What do you think of Planetarium?
That beautiful twinkling of eternity that will never fade, no matter when.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.”

I am not looking for anything else when it comes to drama VNs, it is only Key products! Key rocks! BTW, here are the Key games:
-Moon
-One ~Kagayaku Kizetsu e~
(Note: the first two are made by some Key staff members before they came to Key)
-Kanon (currently playing this)
-Air
-Clannad
-Tomoyo After ~it's a wonderful life~
-Planetarian ~chisama hoshii no yume~ (Kinetic Novel, without branching plot, I have already finished this and it ALMOST made me cry)
-Little Busters! (your next!)
-Little Busters! EX (18+ version)
-Rewrite (not yet released, and I am getting dry on waiting..)

Aside from Key games, I also wanna play Symphonic Rain, try it, it's a drama with music!

And finally, Narcissu! The only game I've played that I have cried on!

And how many of these aren't sub-porn?

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

@haoie: well little... most VN's are under Eroge but your bound to find some that aren't like clannad, kannon...

@jansuke: if your still interested in VN's(seeing as how old this thread is) here are a few that's more on story and less on eroge
Wind -a breath of heart-
Kazoku Keikaku
Bras restoration(no pr0n... pure epic story)

well that's all I new at the moment.... unless you want to play some old eroge(95 era... go figure) then I'll be happy to give you my list...

As some of you may know some feminist group is trying to ban the creation/selling of japanese eroge to other countries. At this point it is mostly dealing with eroge containing rape/or any dark related game. Lately we are seeing less & less of these types of titles though if these people get their way ALL forms of visual novels may be banned which in all fairness REALLY SUCKS!!!!!

Why do some 'righteous group' have to get involved with something that is all fictitous. Don't these people have anything better do harp about than basically fantasy inspired works. If they wanna ban rape in media might as well ban drama series like CSI or Law & Order that depict rape & cruelty just as much.

Alot of japanese visual novel sites have put a ban on their web sites cause of these action which is a shame since some really good companies are participating in that ban...like Minori (ef series).

Hopefully all this will blow over soon....though as an avid player of visual novels of all types i'm worried that in the future getting the oppurtunity to play future titles will be gone.

NOOOO!!!!!!! minori is participating in the ban... but wind and the ef series was so epic... darn it Why must the good and enjoyable stuff always be so dang criticized(not that im a fan of rape/SMBM type of eroge but)...

dang it all if they ever have their way I'm gonna lead a worldwide riot... that much I swear on my honor as a VN player... even if it's the last thing I do on this face of the earth... It's like they exist to deprive us of our last few joys in the world T_T

on topic:

SHUFFLE! IS FINALLY FULLY TRANSLATED!!!!
may be old news but I just found out and DL one so forgive me if you already knew

From what i heard this whole thing started with Rapelay a 3D interactive game made by Illusion. The game originally was released in 2004 but my belief is it is when the game was translated into english that caused all the stir.

Don't get me wrong i'm okay with the idea of translating visual novels, however as soon as people understand what the premise or idea of the game is about than people will have more of an issue with it. Everyone knows that the idea of 'rape' is wrong...it's only the ones that have problems mentally that will take it too far. I played some 'rape' influenced games before but i'm not going to actually do it in real life. I guess these people apposing the release of japanese games fear that people will be influenced by playing these kind of games.

Anyways all this has just got me upset that's all.....

@ Xero-san
Oh yeah that's right...some european distributor was doing the translation for Shuffle. I heard they also obtained the rights to a few other titles from Navel as well...i believe they announced it at this years Anime Expo. So eventually Tick Tack, Really Really & the newest game Oretsuba will also get the translation treatment.

Btw did you know that Navel is releasing another incarnation of Shuffle...called Shuffle Essence+. All the fave characters are returning but also some new characters will be introduced as well.

Kareha, Tsubomi, Nadeshiko (hot teacher!) & Mayumi will have a bigger role, Sakura Yae is present (she was introduced in Reallyx2), the new characters are Ruri Matsuri (think Sia with light pink hair), Daisy (Mayumi with purple hair & pig tails), & Kikyou (who is a mirror image of Sia). You can see how they look like at Navels official website. However seeing how maybe you are a fan of the series you may already have. Thank god Navel hasn't blocked their site!!!

Look for it released sometime in October....the 30th to be exact!
