Every time I watch an anime based around two people being forced into an awkward relationship, why does the story ALWAYS focus on external forces trying to break up the couple, long before even trying to develop a relationship between the two people? Basically, I'm sick and tired of the lack of focus on the actual relationship which should be concentrated on. Why does this happen? Does anyone else feel this way? If so, jesus christ, point me toward some anime that don't do this. |

The anime would be boring then since the viewers demand drama! Watch 5cm per Second - it has no external forces trying to break up the couple (if that snowstorm doesn't count.... lol) |

Well, come to think of it, it's true that before any "realationship" there's most likely a "trial" to appear. That's one of the basics. Almost same as it's almost impossible to find anime without school/university or the idea of education appearing. Anyway, as you can think of even smallest problem as a "trial", it'd be impossible to find what you need, as there's no characters who have no problems. Well, if you're only searching for those without that external force: Tactical Roar, Kiminozo(although the internal problems are great), Melody of Oblivion(Although be prepared for mind crush), Maria-sama ga miteiru(don't remember anyone getting in each other ways there...), Digi Charat Winter Garden(Intereference exists, but noone forces it), Tsuyokiss(Noone interferes her romance, but as for other parts, there's a lot of interference), Nagasarete Airantou(Well... as for this one i'd say they're trying to force a romance rather than interfere :D), Canvas 2(The problem is in themselves), Shuffle(Why not?) |

Don't get me started on the harem genre either.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

I don't think obstacles will always be present in such anime. I might suggest rec or Midori no Hibi. though there are a bunch of problems in REC. those problems where actually what made their relationship stronger in the end. as for midori no hibi she is stuck on his right hand. I really did not find much obstacles in their relationship in there. |

Well in real life there are always obstacles in keeping a relationship so anime should be no different. If it was all about some happy couple all the time it would be kinda dull. The external conflicts add to the couples determination to stay together. Going through hardships, drama, trust issues & whatever gets thrown in their way only greatly increases their desire to be together & strengthens their relationship. If nothing ever happens then when they do face a moment that will seperate them they may not know how to deal with it without having someone be unhappy. The more harem comedy anime tend to be heavy on focusing on outside interference to cause problems to the main couple...thats one of the main ideas of harem animes anyways. If you want more 'pure love' anime than a few examples can be like Kiminozo (Rumbling Hearts), ef ~tale of...~, Touch, & Tokimeki memorial....to name a few are more focused on love. Not that there isn't any obstacles present but they lean more on relationships rather than anything else. |

Ah, yes. That pisses me off so much. I always especially hate the manipulative girls or boys that will do anything to take them apart. Also, there are the really strict parents or the overprotectice inlaws... Damn, romance is pretty dangerous. Some things transcend the stereotypes, though. I recommend Skip Beat, Kimi ni Todoke, Ouran High School Host Club, Koukou Debut, and Dear School Gang Leader. Some of these haven't been turned into anime yet. |
