1. Language is a barrier but also a conversational lubricant. As a foreigner, you get a free pass to try and fail as many times as it takes to get whatever message across. This often results in laughter and seldom ends in frustration, so long as you're not trying to communicate anything too complex. It's a good idea to carry a digital translation device so you can point to words you don't know how to pronounce. 2. My advice to any traveler is: Don't be up tight, eat what they serve. Try new foods, except for natto. If you can't eat certain foods because of your religion, get a new religion. Anyway, Dhabiha (Hanal rules for slaughter) exclude fish, so you can eat sushi all you like! 3. Japanese people are friendly to foreigners, and friendly in general. Figure out when to take your shoes off, and do what you see other people doing. It's easy to fit in, but you'll always be seen as a gaijin. Go with it. 4. The trains are really easy to use. Maps with lots of kanji on them are scary, but just think of the kanji as pictures and match them against what you're looking for. 5. Places not to miss in Kyoto: Kiyomizu-dera, Byoudouin, Koyasan, Arashi-yama monkey park, Fushimi inari. Places not to miss in Tokyo: Daibutsu in Kamakura, Tokyo Tower, Shinjuku, Akihabara. |

My advices are: 1. Well yeah, Japanese people mostly can't talk English well (probably because they pronouncation). You can try to buy Japanese easy language book for traveler. 2. Halal food for muslim... i would suggest u can eat sushi, ramen (with chicken or beef), shabu-shabu (beef), and some other. Make sure u don't eat gyoza (cause it's usually made from pork). 3. Many Japanese culture you must know, like eating (table manners), greetings, clothes, etc. For example, Japanese people use chopstick to eat, and the chief would appreciate you if you say the food's delicious. 4. Yeah, the train is usually cheaper than taxi, but if you scared of get lost, better use the taxi. 5. It depends on ur time and interest. If u like to see temple, ^already described above. Try Tokyo Disneyland for entertainment. |

you're welcome ^_^. Yeah, they don't have the label. If u are ok with fish. The best way is sushi. Not all ramen free from pork, sometimes they used pork fat in their soup. lol. They won't give u sake, except u ordered it.^^; Hm.. gyoza, is some kind of chinese dumplings with pork filled. Yes, u can find the mosque at Tokyo. |

Azwan, I have some advices and a few suggestions. 1) Like I said to Prouidez, I suggest you bring a small Japanese phrase book. Japanese is a difficult language, but in many cities, there are signs that have English language underneath the Japanese language. 2) Halal food for our religion? My advice is eat something new such as sushi, ramen, shabu-shabu & curry probably. Although curry has pork (of course you can't eat any), but there's also vegeterain Japanese curry. 3) Like admin and Tama said, Japanese people are friendly to foreigners. I've been to Japan lots of times and it's easy to fit in since you're a foreigner. 4) Trains are cheaper. They're easy to travel, but the kanji on maps are hard to understand. However, the maps also have English language. 5) There are a lot of places for time and interests. Here are some: Shinjuku, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Disneyland, Akihabara, Asakusa Temple and Ueno Park. If you're planning to go another city such as Fukuoka, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagasaki & Hiroshima, I suggest you buy a Japan Rail Pass. |
