A problem with a song...
Link | by o0iceflame0o on 2009-08-21 23:44:03
Sorry people if this is the wrong page, because I'm just new here.
Anyway this song,
Honjitsu, Mankai Watashi Iro!
On the anime, Hayate no Gotoku second season
is not working for me. After downloading the song
and playing it in windows media player, the player stated
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
I downloaded other songs such as the TV size of the aforementioned song, and it works fine, this is the only one that doesn't.
Please, feel free to give your opinions about it, and I apologize again if I post on the wrong thread. ^^

Sound like your download was incomplete, or your player needs update.

Hmmm. To what I know, my windows media player is at its latest (ver.11 if thats correct)
And also, I carefully looked at how it downloads, the download finishes, but when I try to play it, the error occured.
Thanks for your opinion, but I think that is not the answer for my problem.

How about try winamp? Its portable for mp3 especially songs from here.
And of course make sure you know where you save the song you downloaded,
This kind of problem mostly occured when the files you download is save randomly somewhere else. And it might get corrupted.
If it doesn't work on winamp, try to download the song again then save as on desktop, once the song is done click the song from desktop and try it.

Shows the same this 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file' Not only the song Tsubomi and also Tsubomi[karaoke]

@ maburaho fan: I tried both files on WMP, and I got this instead:

As for that problem, do what Miko said. Try different players. I played the same song on iTunes and Winamp, and it's working fine. But if you want to, you can re-encode/convert the song. Suggested is 192kbps CBR (or it's up to you what settings to use). After it's converted, it should be working fine now on Windows Media Player.

I've had the same problem, but I downloaded the songs before and Windows Media Player played the songs ok last time. Now it doesn't :( The songs are.....
Song: Glossy:MMM
Anime: Saki
and
Song: Zankoku na Negai no Naka de
Anime: Saki

Edit: Apparently, for some odd reason. The song GlossyMMM isn't downloading it's full length, it's only downloading about 3 out of 4 minutes of the entire song. So I'm not even getting the whole song. Guess that's why it won't play..... I just looked at Zankoku na Negai no Naka de and it's the same thing. It won't download the full song, just a part of it.

huh must be something with your browser.
I downloaded the same songs and played it on my Zune program and they worked just fine to me.

The browser, really? I'm using Firefox and Opera (and tried both with the same songs). Also, the songs, when I right-click on them and go into properties, in the Summary all the way down in the Audio, they only show Duration and Bit Rate. All the other songs I have show Duration, Bit Rate, Channels and Audio sample rate.

Yea probably is your browser. If those songs doesn't show what the other ones are, it's either the browser or the songs are corrupted. (but I doubt the second one. =_=)

We suggest you use other music player for now. It should work on winamp.
Somethings wrong with encoding on some of the songs.

I guess here are some problems why this thing happen

1. Internet connection- based on my experience if the Internet connection is not stable it can cause incomplete download

2. Browser- For some reasons -I have IE and Firefox and it happens- Suddenly it "completed" downloading song... maybe something went wrong during the Browser [hang, lag or something that is technical]

3. Broken Link- songs sometimes went down..

4. Corruption of Song- this is possible HOWEVER this happens AFTER the Download, because maybe you are doing something then something went wrong,

i have two corrupted songs because my PC went wrong [it went lag then suddenly it hanged] I need to do Resrat it then after restarting i played the song and it was "song maybe corrupted"

5. Codec- W.M.P. if not updated it could not play songs because of the codec problems...

I have a song that encountered this problem but with the saving grace from my memory, I played it using VLC and Itunes and it worked

well again this is possible what really happen....

As to what poopers said about having problems downloading on a PSP I can confirm that any song I've attempted to download at this current moment ends up being corrupted since I attempted to download love a riddle (the sencond ending song for onegai teacher) only to be greeted with a corrupted data notification, then I attempted to download shooting star (the opening song to onegai teacher) again since I'd downloaded it a few days ago with no problems (i had altered the filename of the first download as the Javascript doesn't work properly in the PSPs browser) only to be greeted with another corrupted data notification.
Also I did notice that during the download process there was what seemed to be sudden increases in download speed that lasted for about a second going accross the download, but this also might be pieces of data not getting through thus corrupting the file itself (although that is just a theroy).

That's it demon.
I found a temporary quick fix to this, however.
If you have windows audio converter, convert whatever music you downloaded at whatever kbps. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I still have to figure out the relation of which Kbps works for each one....

Sorry if this doesn't make sense lol. For short, just convert your audio with Windows audio converter.

poop!

Yeah, once the song is converted, it will work on WMP. (Any music converter will do.) About the missing tags, do the tagging yourself.
And poopers, your post do make sense. XD It's a temporary solution for songs that won't play on WMP.

I think the problem might be down to corrupted or missing data in the file itself since I downloaded the song I wanted on my PC and it played properly (I don't use WMP since I despise it with a passion) although it still shows as corrupted if it is transferred to my PSP which is what is probably affecting those who use WMP to play the files and re-converting the file probably restores the missing data allowing it to be playable on WMP.

Edit: It seems that the problems with downloading files on the PSP have gone now so the other problems might've gone as well.

Yeah, all problems should be fixed now.
