What happened to just being a gamer?
Link | by on 2010-01-06 10:24:38
pretty much what the title says. i dont see it too much here but everywhere else i go i see fanboys knocking other systems down, when i think of being a gamer i think of someone liking games regardless of where the games come out, whether its consoles or pc or whether its 360 or ps3 or wii. all i hear is pc gamers knocking down consoles because of limitations and ports that dont benefit them. and from console users, all i hear from them is each other going at each other about the red ring of death (360) or the lack of online features compared to xbox live and exclusivity (ps3) or the lack of hardcore games (wii). i just want see who agrees with on this. i know people either like one or the other but i know some of you who like whichever, wont rag on the other. i had a 360 but it crapped out on me but i dont think of it as sucky console because it has great games and i plan on getting another one when i can. i have a ps3 now and am getting a wii next. anyways i would just like opinions on this little rant. agree/disagree?

preferring something is fine. sometimes you just dont like the games on another system. for example xbox doesnt have alot of rpgs so people would rather go to sony for that, which is fine. its when people bash systems saying this one is so much better when its really not.

Yeah, I'd prefer the PS3. I think it's better anyways. My opinion.

Im an x-box 360 kinda guy, ive got all three systems but i suppose i like the way it runs and such for multiplayer games. Nothing against the other consoles, like all three of them :) love my psp and my nintendo ds is my alarm clock lol.

one manga i was reading about a guy who joins a team of internet agents of some sort, one of his first jobs to stop a feud from happening he had to go under cover as a video game lover lol. and the ps3 fanboys and nintendo wii fanboys were at the same place and they began fighting. pictures in the manga showed them crying while hugging their consoles. it was hilarious. then the main charchter guy jumps in the fight saying " im an x-box fan" and all of them stop and go " OMG X-BOX ITS HUGE"

Ah its Mel Kano chapter 16 :) its awesome Go read it and you'll laugh.

This bashing other people's consoles has always been around, it's just that the advancement of the internet combined with the introduction of a third major player on the console market has created a three way brawl.

It's idiotic, and the bad thing is it extends beyond everyday people. Reviewers, members of the industry, it seems like everyone joins in at some point.

I got a PS3, and I prefer it more than the other two systems. From a consumer standpoint, I saw the PS3 as a much better use of my money (even when it cost more than the 360) due to the fact that it has a Blu-Ray player built-in, doesn't require yearly fees for online, has greater reliability and offered cheaper/alternative accessories.

I wouldn't play the Wii much since it prefers to cater to a casual gamer audience as opposed to the hardcore gaming audience, which I am part of. As for the 360, besides the lack of a Blu-Ray player (which is important for a mild movie buff like me), if I'm going to put down roughly 400 dollars (after taxes and accessories get added in) on something then I want it to work for as long as possible.

i think the games make the consoles great..
who would want a console with few games, right?
but with a console of variety of games, you will never be bored..

thats what i think so too. i know ive thought "nintendo what are you doing?" or "microsoft get your crap together and build something that wont phail" or "sony why are you starting your prices so high". i have respect for each console though and i plan on owning all three, just hopefully they will have longer lifespans. 5 years between consoles isnt very appealing. the length of time between consoles should lengthen so it can give great ideas and time to develop new hardware

That's what happened with the PS2 and the new release of the PS3.
PS2 was the best console, hands down in the world before the new generation came out.
And even with the 360 out and Wii, they both couldn't handle the sales the PS2 had,
and even today the PS2 is still a popular console, of course not as mainstream but that's inevitable.
Plus no true Sony fan or any fan is going to give up their PS2, because good games are still being made for it.

The PS3 is going to have huge success once the real titles start releasing, and once again Sony will prevail on top,
but there's the future PS, the PS4 which is already estimated to cost roughly a grand...

This has been happening for decades.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

The wait between consoles are too short in my opinion I wouldn't be surprised if a PS4 did come out within the next two years

Nah, I highly doubt the PS4 will even get an announcement of an estimated release date.
The PS3 barely released and this year is going to be the year where the games start coming out.
There's no way the PS4 will get any type of release date. I see after 2012 (a crucial year, lol).

You won't be seeing the PS4 for along time, the PS3 has yet to reach its full potential, only now has developers really understand how the machine works which is why you see so many great looking titles last year & games coming in 2010. Sony has always stated on a 10 year life cycle for all their systems, & since the PS3 is only in its 4th year you probably won't hear any news of PS4 until its 6th or 7th year.

The Wii will probably be the first system to recieve an upgrade. Even Nintendo execs has said the Wii is NOT a next-gen system...sure it selling alot but that is because it is for the 'casual' gamer. Anybody can get it & play it. For hardcore gamers it is lacking in games to really satisfy. Which is why after the games already in development that some publishers are stoping making mature games for the system. Bad sales for games like Deadspace, House of the Dead, & Resident Evil is the reason for this.

As for the Xbox 360...i believe the system is at its highest peak, the potential for the system i think has been tapped. So games will start looking pretty similar in the way it looks. However since it is easier to develop for the support for the system will remain strong. I think you will hear news on a new system in the next few years, though they are trying to be like Sony & go for a 10 year cycle.

Anyways back on topic for the most part, there wasn't much flaming until the Xbox came to the scene. Ever since then the 'console wars' were basically between 2 (Sony & Microsoft), sure Nintendo is put in that category but since they know where their audience is they don't really care about this war.

I'm a Sony supporter, always will, always have been. Sure i respect the Xbox for it does have some good games that are interesting. I do don't respect them for some of their handling of things like the rumors of 'buying' off some developers to make games for them. In the end i believe the PS3 will eventually overtake the Xbox360 cause i think the line-up for Sony games upcoming is just better. When 3rd party developers realize that making games for the PS3 require just abit more extra work these ports will start looking better.

In the end if you are a gamer just be happy that there are 3 viable machines out there that satisfy everyone of us.

I don't hold anything against Xbox or Wii but I still prefer PS3 because of the games.People may say the Wii is more fun and the Xbox 360 has cooler graphics(dunno if it's true, probably is seeing as it's a mircosoft product),but I've always been a PS fan since I got my first one,PSone, when I was six or seven and I plan on continuing it.It all boils down to the opinions of each and everybody in the end.

well, wii is enjoyable but u will soon get tired from playing..
as far as i know the games are limited.. and u just do again and again what u do from the start.. but it sure is fun when u win against ur rival.. hahaha

as for xbox360.. well, i prefer its better than wii..
but i'm the same as you, i cant think whether what to choose..

but my brother said ps3 is better.. jajaja
u can believe him cause he owns a
PSP, Nintendo DS, 2 Nintendo SPs,
and a PS-one up to date at the age of 10..
maybe next year he can get a Ps3 and xbox360 for himself..
its too expensive..

I agree with Shae that the games make the console great.
Not having an extremely expendable income, that's pretty much what I would go buy when deciding which one to buy.
It's simply a matter of preference when it comes to what games you like best.
Unfortunately some people do not respect that and feel the need to just say whatever crap they want...

There are a few games on each that I'd like to play, like the Tales of Symphonia sequel on the Wii and Fable 2 on Xbox 360. Plus it'd be cool to play Oblivion on 360 without it crashing on me all the time like on my PC but am I going to buy a console just for one game? No.
I'll probably have to wait several years until the consoles/game prices are slashed to an amount I'm willing to pay but that's okay with me because by then a lot of the games will be released by then and I'll be able to see which ones I want and which ones I don't instead of weeding through them.

I agree, it doesn't matter what games come out on what systems to me... as long as I have fun playing x3
