Guys I just want to hear your opinion. What are their Pros and cons? For me, I think it goes a little something like this: MMORPG PROS> Player interactivity CONS> Game play having no significance to the games story background which is the key element to all RPG games. So? How about you guys? |

Personally I like regular RPG's because they actually tell a story, which is a big deal for my enjoyment of an RPG right off the bat. MMORPG's don't really have a story, just a lot of quests and a general plot line/device to tie it together (in some cases). Also, the characters in regular RPG's are more developed and have more personality than in MMORPG's (in terms of NPC's anyway). The only real pro I can give MMO's is that they would be fun to play with friends, since it lets you go out and fight/do quests with eachother where as most regular RPG's don't. Overall though, I find MMO's far too repetitive to enjoy. I need a strong story to pull me along from battle to battle. I need some kind of goal in sight, other than just trying to make the strongest character possible. |

whoa now this is a good topic well erm... MMO can introduce other people from other countries and make new friends (had experience hanging out b4 and found a few people who plays em but never say that they did) and it's true that it may not really have a story line and all but it does let you have fun in your own way playing mini-games and having a one-on-one or team battle |

I actually don't like RPGs that much in general. I like them, maybe not so much turn-based styled RPGs. ------- |

I like both MMOs and regular RPGs, but some cons include: RPGs> Sometimes gets boring after long periods of playing, and i usually feel lonely playing by myself once in a while. MMOs> Server problems and bugs suck, PKers aren't very fun, i agree that storylines are very loose or nonexistant, requires internet to play, etc |

MMORPG Pros • Higher level of interaction between players. • Usually higher customization towards playable character. (Clothes, Pets, Weapons, Skills and etc.) • Never-ending gameplay. (Even when you complete all the quests/missions , there're usually bonus ones after numerous game updates) Cons • No solid storyline/plot. • Non-playable characters usually pose a non-significant status. RPG Pros • Solid storyline/plot. • Non-playable characters pose a significant status. Cons • Limited customization to playable character. • Gameplay has a fixed timeline. (After you complete the game, it's done.) |

hmm,do you REALLY dont want to stop playing? warcraft for examples, the battle in the new expansion look like a "dragged" stroyline without any depth.just "here some bad-asses monster,a legion of faction and monster, new quest including picking a chicken egg in random mountain, new invented technologies 4 u to try". FOR WAHT???? Its never beat Warcraft 2 story-line... |

wow...All the replies here are very true - Speaking as a gamer from both ends :) - I have a lvl 101 Healer class in an MMO where I have played for 2 years and now starting to love normal video games (specifically Final Fantasy games) very much. I still log into my MMO for Territory Wars (or Guild wars for some :p) but otherwise mostly inactive in favour of my new interest. For me, I like MMO because I can chat with friends and make friends from all over the world and sometimes even chat about our real life. Also, the fact that my character is completely built by myself gives me more satisfaction when I see how strong it becomes as I level it. Plus, PvP is a feature in most MMOs and many people like it because you are actually fighting with a real person on the other end and not with an Artificial Intelligence. Skills and refinement on equipments are very important in every MMOs as well as statistics of one's character. On the down side, MMOs can get kinda stressful sometimes - I guess that is what you get when you are playing with so many people. And of course, Player-Killing (PK)- if you want to play MMO, then expect to be pked at some point in the game because nobody and I mean nobody has never been pked before in an MMO - it is considered to be a norm or part of MMO. Video game, on the other hand, has more indepth storyline and character development and sometimes great theme music in the case of Final Fantasy games :p . Also I like the fact that leveling is not a priority in a video game so I can level at my own pace. And....I do not have to worry about refining my equipments to be stronger that other players :D. No dungeons, no long-winded quests and no cultivation missions to do. And best of all, no need to think about how to craft your armours/weapons or make potions which is vital (crafting that is) in every MMO. Thus, less stress in a video game. I do agree though that gameplay in a video game is limited and therefore might get repetitive and boring if you replay it over and over again. Overall, I like both types of genre as a gamer and will always look for ways to enhance my enjoyment of both games. :) |

If you're looking for an MMO with SL, check out FF11, there's a TON of story to experience, people just rarely play enough to find that out. |

RPG: -75% of the time is you running around with a sword trying to save the world or in a post-apocalyptic scenario. MMORPG: - Same thing as above except you're playing with some guy in South Africa and he has a cool accent. |
