Which one would you prefer over the other? Sony's NGP(Next Generation PSP) or the 3DS?

I've always been a Sony fangirl so I'll go with the NGP

I can care less about 3D "without glasses" cause Nintendo can't come close to Sony with anything involving graphics.
In terms of power/specs/etc. the NGP (or PSP2) totally beats it.
In terms of games, that's up for more of an opinionated perspective,
since Nintendo are remaking old classics they've always been doing like Mario and Zelda,
while the NGP are going to have popular titles like Killzone and AC and much more.
I think the depth of games releasing at first for both, NGP is better (in my opinion),
but no doubt people are interested in the new Pokemon titles launching for the 3DS.

Overall honestly the PSP2 will beat it in time. All these darn remakes of the DS are annoying though.

There's a main thread talking about the 3DS and I said my opinion in that as well.

Guess Nintendo's giving up on the Wii. The PS3's too strong for anyone to contend with.

If your asking which one I would buy,
I would definitely buy the 3DS.
I could careless about the games on the NGP.
I always liked the Nintendo games.
But that's just me.

If your talking about power,
Sony wins hands down.
Face it,
Nintendo sucks when it comes to power, quality, and graphic.
I like Nintendo because they focus more on the gameplay rather than the quality, power, and graphic.

The starter games?
Nintendo sucks. None of their big games are coming out until later in the year.
I'm pretty sure Sony isn't going to make a mistake like that when they come out with the NGP.
Sony, in my opinion, usually aim for teens and young adult.
While Nintendo, in my opinion, aims for... well everybody.
I really don't want to explain what I meant by that because it's going to take a damn paragraph.

I've always been a big supporter of Nintendo. I have both the PSP and the DS. And I have to say that I like my DS better than my PSP. That's a hands down factor for me.

I respect that Sony is better for quality, graphic, and power. But I like Nintendo because they focus more on gameplay. That's why they focus more on their first party franchises than third party. That's also why most third party games on the wii and DS are terrible. The wii and DS graphic are nothing compare to Sony. Sony wins in the factors that I mentioned above.

Well I'm done there. Though i do have to say something. Out of all the seventh generation consoles, the wii and DS sold the most. Just saying. Now I'm finish.

Well, i will choose Nintendo.
Since i have been with nintendo since i was in primary school (-w- wew... that's quite long)... and of course i like their original games like mario and pokemon.
And their games always interact with the audience (like the touch stylus and wii ;)). However, if u after graphic and high quality game, then maybe NGP is perfect for you :)
well, that's all i can say in my opinion.. :)

NGP blows the nintendo away which aparently causes damage to kids eyes 6-10 years
also hieo showed its posible to re-encode and downlscale mgs5 for the next gen psp thus indicating room for decent psn store goodies or more wider range upon the new flash drives

I agree with neosephiroth, but I think people are just biased with Nintendo a bit here. Makes for a good discussion.
People who say Sony's consoles are only making games for Graphics or HD quality, well, that's half true. Possibly.
The other half is that their games are top-notch in the industry. It's 2011, HD is a must, and high quality freaking games are a must.
A wide variety of games that goes from COD to Uncharted, GOW to LBP, and so on. Tell me those games are just "looking good".
And no offense, how many times has Sony milked ANY of their game characters? Not for 20 years...

The PS3 has the power to make powerful engine games, don't hate cause the tiny Wii can't.
The Wii doesn't have to focus on even average-par decent graphics because they don't HAVE the power engine to do it...

Sony doesn't aim towards a specific group of customers, the PS3 can please all!
It's a bluray DVD player, you can install Linux on it, and of course play the great games. So much to offer. Ask Kevin Butler.
Oh and btw, has anyone heard of the Playstation: MOVE?? It's already being used on a variety of games today and will improve with time.
Nintendo continues to lag behind with the past as Sony is moving onto the future,
and although I'll always respect titles like Pokemon, I'm moving with everyone else towards the future.

And about the comment about the Wii and DS selling more,
the Wii was always the cheapest console out of the "big 3", even people bundled it with a PS3 or XBOX360!
And the DS has multiple versions that were released, while there was really one original design PSP, not that I care.
So similar to fans saying 360 sells more than PS3, more than a 1/3 of their sales are repurchased 360's from red ring attack,
and in 2010, the PS3 was the clear leader in "sales", so let's not get into sales now....

This is a thread about the NGP/3DS but people are bringing in the platform consoles. I respect your opinions, this is just mine.

I'm picking both up, because that's the kind of consumer I am. I'm most excited
for the 3DS, possibly because its right around the corner (pretty much
tomorrow).

@DA
I agree Sony console games aren't just about graphics, which is indisputable.
Uncharted is simply one of the greatest games of our time.
As for the DS having multiple versions that were released, there were- the DS,
DSLite, DSi, and DSi XL. But the PSP also had multiple versions released- the
PSP, the PSP 2000, the PSP 3000, and the PSP Go.

Nintendo also does not cater towards a specific group of customers. Just like
the Ps3, the Wii has games to please the grandmas of the world and the hardcore
crowd. I don't think I need to list the games for the hardcore that make the
Wii a viable system. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy to name dozens.

As for the idea of companies milking their characters- such an idea is foolish.
They release more because we want more. I want more Fire Emblem, Mario,
Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, and F-Zero because they are some of the best
games in the industry. Their gameplay is sublime, and if I were looking for
change, I'd buy a game from another franchise. You'll never hear me complain
about "another xxxxxx game" because odds are that's exactly what I want to spend
my money on. "Another xxxxxx game."

Back on topic, the 3DS and NGP will both be sweet machines, and each will
appease a different type of gamer, both hardcore. In the end the software will
make the system, and I'm more excited for the 3DS because of the aforementioned
franchises than I am for the NGP's Uncharted and Little Deviants.

I'm more for the PSP2 / NGP.
I have played both the NDS and the PSP, but I tend to play PSP more, since I'm more for the graphics. The only reason I picked up both was because I'm a Fantasy RPG type of person (And assumed both consoles had some).

Bottom-line, I'mma get both for only this reason:
Both will have games that the other won't have.
I plan to get the best of both, which I say, is their (Sony and Nintendo) hidden plot.

----

Like many others, I wouldn't argue with the fact that when it comes to
power, Sony wins. Major game developers prefer Sony...
that's why Sony has most of the "great" games. But even with that, Sony
wasn't able to overthrow Nintendo like how Sony kinda did to Microsoft.
Not that I'm starting a war-topic between the three. XD

I'mma just disagree with DA's opinion regarding the would be sales:

Looking back at the NDS and PSP sales, clearly, the NDS outsold the PSP by like 6:1 during
the first weeks when each was released. Even up till now, the PSP is behind by
like 3:1. Can't see the fact that the the PSP will outsale the DS anytime soon.

Nintendo: NDS, NDS Lite, DSi/DSi XL and the 3DS...
Sony: PSP, PSP Slim(2000,3000), PSP Go, NGP...

Saying that the DS has multiple versions released? Well, if one separate each of the DS's
version sales, it would still beat each of the PSP's version. Remember, casual gamers
dominate the market over hardcore gamers and I believe casual gamers can enjoy a good game
without having excellent graphics... simple games are enough for them.

Although now that the NGP would support Android games, maybe it would attract most of
the casual gamers more than how the 3DS would attract people still hyped up over 3D.
Unless said casual gamers have their Android phones already (which is likely).

It's gonna be up to the audience which they would prefer. I can still see
that the casual gamers kinda overpopulate hardcore gamers... which I think,
a major factor. Just my two cents though.

----

As for me, I'mma enjoy my 3DS when I get mine... Play everything I can till
the NGP is out. Let my sister have the 3DS for a while hoping a 3D mama game will
come out for her. Finish everything I want on the NGP and then wait till a good game
for both of them... just like how I am with my DS and PSP right now. XD

Don't get me wrong. I'm going to be getting both but I know for a fact that I'm going to like the 3DS more. And like I said, I'm a big Nintendo fan. Yes I get the fact that Nintendo lags while Sony moves to the future. But how do you know that's not going to change? Nintendo once monopolized the gaming market and they can do it again. That's my opinion. So don't take it serious people.

But yes. I don't have the 3DS yet but I'm going to get it when Zelda: Ocarina of Time comes out. The 3DS launch tittle sucks and it's no doubt that the NGP isn't going to make that mistake. They can't afford to do something so stupid. I've always loved the Nintendo games. Heck I grew up with Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, and basically every franchise hey ever created. And I will admit that I'm a somewhat casual gamer. But don't get me wrong, i know what I'm talking about.

In terms of power, NGP will will. In terms of games, it depends on the individuals. In terms of audience, both the NGP and 3DS are basically aiming for the same audience. In terms of affordability, no shit it's going to be the 3DS. Don't be sweet talking me by saying that the NGP is going to be cheaper than the 3DS. That's just bullshit.

But yup. The 3DS is my choice. ;]

@ HikarixMoon
NGP is being released in 2 models. One with wi-fi (like the PSP) and one that supports 3G technology. Though prices haven't been confirmed, rumors say that the wi-fi only model will cost $250 (the same as the 3DS) and the 3G capable model will cost $350.

As for the main discussion, I am absolutely certain that the "3D" part of the 3DS will not be what people are expecting. I suspect it will be one of those "hold it in the exact right position the exact right distance from your face"-type features that everyone gets annoyed with and just turns off.

Games? I really find it annoying when companies cash in twice (or more) on the same game. The fact that LoZ:OoT is being released on 3DS in NOT a selling point for me. What nintendo (and really all game companies) should do is make their classic games available, but at a reduced cost and in a bundle. I mean, you've already made profit on your classic games and they are miniscule in size compared to modern games so why not release them bundled with other classics at base material and shipping cost + $3. There is no reason that Squenix can't release FF I - FF X on one blu-ray disc for the PS3, they just don't. And they aren't doing themselves a favor by charging full price for a single classic game (the 3DS LoZ will be $40) when there are emulators available online for free. I would gladly pay $10 for LoZ, but not f*cking $40!

The NGP will undoubtedly be plagued by bad reviews just like the PSP has been. According to gamespot.com, of the PSP games released there have been only 10 that scored a 9/10 or higher and none have been perfect. This will likely be true for the NGP, too. Most of the game developers will try to take advantage of the new system and likely fail, producing sub-standard games that get flamed by critics.

In the end nintendo will do better. This is because the last generation grew up on nintendo and they know nothing about sony, so they will in turn buy nintendo for their kids. With the increased popularity and profits, nintendo will be able to put out a wide range of games and get more popularity and profit. Its a chain reaction that began back when Sega disappeared and parents were afraid to buy PS1 over N64.

And that's my 2 cents.

@ angel_of_stone

In all honesty, I agree with you. Nintendo will only do better because of the last generation growing up on Nintendo. But that's just a theory. As of right now, everybody knows and heard of Sony. Everybody knows that Sony's graphic and quality is just outstanding. Nintendo is well known because of it's first party franchises. So it's interesting who will actually do better.

But really, the decision will be base on the games that will be released on both console. No I'm not talking about the graphics. I'm talking about what makes a great game so great and that's the gameplay. Nintendo definitely proves that they focus more on gameplay but If they dare bring out more of their old stuff, then even I will be disappointed. I mean, whatever happen to those amazing game that they created out of nowhere? I mean I remember when I first played Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64 and how I was amazed at it. Whatever happen to that? It's like Nintendo lost it originality and just started to make ports out of almost everything just to keep us entertained. Geez... I miss Nintendo's creativity... That's just an opinion.

Yeah I see your point about the games being ported. This was somewhat a turn off for me but for my brother, he was so happy. He was like "Nintendo is just bring back the classics." He also had this theory saying "Oh Nintendo is just trying to catch Hardcore Gamer's attention by releasing ports first then come out with wicked awesome games later in a good year or so." He's only fourteen... But as for me. I am looking forward to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Though that's basically the only port I'm looking forward to. The only game that got my attention on the 3DS is Kingdom Hearts: 3D and the Super Mario TBA.

I could careless about who's doing better. All I know for a fact is that I will be getting both the NGP and 3DS. But I'm going to be enjoying the 3DS more because of Nintendo first party franchises. Though I do have to say that i agree with you to a certain extent. :]

P.S I can't wait until this year E3 since Nintendo announced that they will revealing a new console. :D

Let me say up front I'm looking forward to buying the NGP, and if I can warrant
the spending of any money on a new handheld it will be for the NGP.

For all the talk on sales and stuff, and how Nintendo blows sony out of the water,
that's somewhat overblown I think. The DS/3DS/Wii are unique consoles in which they
appeal to people who would not normally be gamers. It's appeals to the commonfolk,
kids, adults, just about anybody. That's because of the gimmicks for each system;
the DS with touch screen and simple games, the 3DS on 3D and same style games as
DS, and the Wii with the motion gaming and simple games that are easy to get into and fun.

Now for Sony and the NGP/PSP/PS3, the gaming device is far more advanced. It doesn't
cater to the gimmicks to sell ['PS3 Move' not coming into play until recently,
and the 360 did the exact same thing, since motion gaming was getting hype] and
instead relies on pure gaming power. Hardware, graphics, gameplay, and trying to
reach the top of the line in terms of production.

That means the Sony systems are for more the average-hardcore gamer, rather than
the Nintendo consoles that can appeal to -everyone- and not just gamers. Anyone
can pick up a Wii controller or DS and play something without having to be a
gamer. That's what makes it appeal so highly to everyone, and what gives it the sales
it has.

So, the same can/will be said for the NGP/3DS. The 3DS will appeal to just about
anyone, while the NGP will appeal to people specifically looking for a top of the
line gaming experience with no expense not spent. The NGP will be the more powerful
system, and I think the '3D' craze hitting the world won't last as long as everyone
thinks. The 3DS will have to create games based on the game itself, and not the
feature of 3D -- after all, everyone I know with a 3DS doesn't even like the 3D or use it.

Bottom line Im looking forward to the NGP, and if I have the money that's what
I'll get. I would like to eventually get the 3DS, since it's going to have games
like Ocarina of Time and Tales of The Abyss -- two games I play to this day. Not
to mention all the potential games for the 3DS make it appealing.

But the NGP will be the more powerful system for gamers, and even if the 3DS
outsells the NGP I still believe the better -gaming- system will be the NGP.

- I throw this spark on this conversation. -
