I suggest maybe making this post sticky for the next month or so, or post some of the following info/link on the home page for the site. The following is copied from Yahoo! the original can be viewed here. AMERICAN RED CROSS: Emergency Operation Centers are opened in the affected areas and staffed by the chapters. This disaster is on a scale larger than the Japanese Red Cross can typically manage. Donations to the American Red Cross can be allocated for the International Disaster Relief Fund, which then deploys to the region to help. Donate here. GLOBALGIVING: Established a fund to disburse donations to organizations providing relief and emergency services to victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Donate here or you can text "JAPAN" to 50555 to give $10. SAVE THE CHILDREN: Mobilizing to provide immediate humanitarian relief in the shape of emergency health care and provision of non-food items and shelter. Donate here. SALVATION ARMY: The Salvation Army has been in Japan since 1895 and is currently providing emergency assistance to those in need. Donate here alternatively you could probably also go into your local Salvation Army store to donate as well. AMERICARES: Emergency team is on full alert, mobilizing resources and dispatching an emergency response manager to the region. Donate here. CONVOY OF HOPE: Disaster Response team established connection with in-country partners who have been impacted by the damage and are identifying the needs and areas where Convoy of Hope may be of the greatest assistance. Donate here. INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL CORPS: Putting together relief teams, as well as supplies, and are in contact with partners in Japan and other affected countries to assess needs and coordinate our activities. Donate here. SHELTER BOX: The first team is mobilizing to head to Japan and begin the response effort. Donate here if you're in the US if you're in another nation go to the main page and select you nation the click the 'donate' button. Also, according to xsora97 you can text "REDCROSS" to 90999 and ten dollars ($10) will be donated to the Red Cross. This (and the one of GlobalGiving) will probably only work in the US and remember that the $10 will show up on your next phone bill. I personally recommend donating money directly, keep the receipt and you'll be able to deduct some or all of it from your taxes next year. As with any donation you should read about the individual organizations and decide for yourself which one you feel will make the best use of the money given to them BEFORE making your donation. If anyone finds additional ways to provide assistance, please post links. UPDATE: There is a person/group going by the name of Kasenai NGO that is claiming to be taking money and forwarding it to the Red Cross is Japan. It is likely that this is a hoax and a scam to take your money. Instead try to donate directly to your organization of choice.

USA Today provide links where you can donate for to help out Japan. I believe this may fit in better in the original earthquake thread. |
