Help me look for a new anime to watch!
|
I'm slowly getting more and more into anime and I want some suggestions as to what to watch but I don't want to randomly pick and watch. I'm looking for an anime similar to Steins;Gate or Code Geass. |

We're all looking for something as good as Steins;Gate and Code Geass... XD; I found Eureka Seven to be somewhat similar to those two, but it's a full year long, so maybe you wouldn't want to watch an anime with so many episodes. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is also a good choice, since many of its concepts overlap with Steins;Gate's, and the two anime both aired last year. It's only one season (12 episodes) so you could probably finish it in one day. If you're looking for anime with more of a comedy aspect, then I would recommend Bakemonogatari and Haruhi Suzumiya. They're both only one season long, but Bakemonogatari's sequel (Nisemonogatari) is currently airing. Oh, wait, there's a second season of Haruhi, but I haven't seen it because I heard it's boring. Horror/thriller ones that you might like are Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Shiki, which both involve immortal creatures (spoiler for Higurashi), so they're kind of like Code Geass, which has C.C. They're both two seasons long, but Higurashi also has its necessary sequel, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, which is also two seasons long, and it has a few OVA episodes (Rei and Kira), so it's a longer anime, like Eureka Seven. Great all-around, balanced anime are Durarara!!, Soul Eater, and Angel Beats!, which involve the supernatural, to an extent. DRRR!! is two seasons long (26 eps), AB! is one season (13 eps), and Soul Eater has one year of episodes (50-something). There's also Full Metal Alchemist and Shakugan no Shana, which are pretty popular anime, and they have lots of cool technology in them. (Transmutations and alchemy in FMA, and strange artifacts in Shana.) FMA is, like, 50 episodes, and Shana's first and second seasons total over fifty, and its third season--it's airing right now, in Japan--is at episode 22, so it's the longest one I've mentioned. You could also check out more ecchi anime, like Chobits or Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou. They're good, but they're not the type of anime you should watch unless you're alone or with someone other than your parents, since they have quite a few perverted scenes in them. (Especially Ichimaou.) Chobits is two seasons long, and Ichimaou is 12 episodes long. All of the anime I mentioned are pretty popular--that's why I suggested them--so you shouldn't have much of a problem in finding a website to watch them on. I hope I was helpful. c= EDIT: added descriptions on seasons/length.

Yeah, Steins;Gate was pretty epic and I just finished Code Geass Today! Also pretty epic! For Eureka Seven, how many episodes does it have? I'll definitely look into to comdey and horror suggestions. I haven't seen any that cover that sort of genre. I've been more into drama and suspense. I've been meaning to watch Durarara, so thanks for the remind ;D and the other two I've heard of so I'll look into them. I love FMA and FMA: Brotherhood. (Up until Steins;Gate it was my favorite anime!) If the other suggestion is similar in the respect of a science/tech genre I'll look into it was well. So ecchi, would somewhat mean perverted? I'll check those out anyways :D I'm not too much of an anime-head, but lately I've been watching some interesting shows and It's completely changed my perspective. Totally helpful. |

Eureka Seven has around fifty episodes. That's traditional length for a year-long anime. Soul Eater is also a year-long anime, but Higurashi and Shana aren't in that category, since they have seasons--I mean, they both aired for half of a year, then they restarted some time later and aired for two more seasons. Meh, I feel like I'm elaborating on nothing. Yeah, I remember getting into anime about six years ago, and it really did change my life and how I view the world. I find most Japanese cartoons to be much more insightful than English ones. They're a better form of entertainment, in my opinion. c= Oh, if you want more anime, then I can give more suggestions, but lol that list should last you for at least all of spring break. XD

Oh, ok. 50 episodes isn't so much. It took me about 4 days to finish Code Geass. (I don't know if that's a lot or a little, LOL. I've been told that's way too long for 50 episodes hehehe, but it's all good.) I'm watching an anime called Ano Hi Mita Hana No Namae O Bokutachi Wa Mada Shiranai, at my friends suggestion. It's pretty good if you haven't seen it. It looks like all the anime's I've seen, you've already seen so that's a suggestion of mine ;D The first anime I saw was FMA. After that I saw Rurouni Kenshin, but with 100 episodes I never thought I'd watch another show again. I've only been getting into anime for the past half-year and I've all but given away my T.V if not for reruns of Seinfeld and The Office, among other shows. |

Refer to the 'Best of 2011' thread in the anime section to get an idea of what has been released in the previous year. You can also view the opinions of several people and see how they overlap. |

I already watched AnoHana, ahaha. I kept up with it while it was airing, last year. It's definitely one of the top five anime of 2011.

Guilty Crown is the new-age Code Geass. Watch it. Quickly has become perhaps my favorite all-time anime. 20 Episodes have aired, and it appears it will be a 24 episode anime or so. If Eureka Seven suits you, check out Star Driver as well. Same company, and that same kind of stellar-story and feel that made E7 and then Star Driver so great. It's 24 episodes [or 26.. one of those]. |

Hmm... not that this is in the same gern, it has a nice storyline with a akward twist on the end,and some comedy. I suggest Utawarerumono, but also I will warn you, there is alot of war-fighting scenes in it. I also must agree to Eureka Seven, probably one of the only mech-anime I watched and liked along with Macross Frontire. I also suggest watching some CLAMP works, these people are experts of deep story. Thier notable works are, Card Captor Sakura (C.C. Sakura), Tsubasa Chronicles, Kobato, and Chobits If you Wana challenge yourself not to cry at the end of a series, I suggest Key-productions. This company is an expert at makeing people cry infront of the screen. Their noteable works are AIR, CLANNAD, and Angel Beats! I think that's all I can think of after pulling off a all-nighter...I hope this helps you find something good to watch. |

Something similar to Code Geass, huh... well, if it's mecha, I always recommend Super Robot Wars Original Generations, but only the second season is worth it. I support the Utawarerumono suggestion. Completely different from CG, but I'd recommend Allison to Lillia, S-cry-ed, Lyrical Nanoha, TV of Magic Knight Rayearth, Shadow Skill, Busou Renkin, Rune Soldier Louie, Tenchi Muyo series, Record of Lodoss Wars, Juuni Kokki, Final Fantasy Unlimited, Bastard!, Saiyuki, Princess Lover, Dog Days, Flame of Recca and Aria the Animation. Those are just my recommendations, they don't exactly have something similar to it. A lot of CLAMP works were named here, Magic Knight Rayearth is also one of their works and some parts of it were later used in Tsubasa Chronicles. But OVA sucks, so only watch TV series. Angelic Layer is also pretty good, but honestly, main girl's voice is too high pitch, it's extremely annoying. Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan is also a good choice, but it's even older than CCS I think and hard to find. As for Key, I recommend Kanon, both 2002 and 2006 over their other works. I'd recommend One over Kanon, but sadly there was never a decent anime of it. If you want comedy, you can also try Galaxy Angel, Great Teacher Onizuka, Those who Hunt Elves, Pani Poni Dash and Muteki Kanban Musume. I sorta specialize in 1990-2000 anime, so some of those might seem a bit too outdated compared to CG, but those are all at least worth watching. Oh, along with Utawarerumono, Tears to Tiara is a good choice. They are both works of Leaf and have great and deep main characters. EDIT: Oh yeah, you can also try Glass Fleet and Tactical Roar. |

Well, if you want anime similar to Steins;Gate, then I agree with what Mystia said about Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and the first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (But like what Mystia said, the second season is definitely not as good, especially with the endless eight >.>). But if you want an overall good Sci-Fi anime, then I recommend Mouretsu Pirates (Which is currently airing), Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Mawaru Penguindrum (Well, I'm not sure if Penguindrum could really be counted as Sci-Fi, but it's still a great series). |
