Dead or Alive series

I'm unsure if there's a thread about this game.

Before the Street Fighter series, I got into Dead or Alive games during my high school years. Dead or Alive 2 became my first fighting game. I started playing it during lunch time (depends if the classroom is free) and enjoyed it. On my first try, I played Ayane first, then Kasumi afterwards. I kinda main Ayane and Kasumi during that time. After 9/10 years, I've gotten back to the game after seeing my friend from a fighting game forum. I don't know much about the gameplay and the moves, but I know some of the Dead or Alive story. So far, I played Dead or Alive 2, 4 & Dimensions. I will be playing Dead or Alive 5 at my friend's house tomorrow.

When I first looked at the game, I like it, because of the style, gameplay of it & it's slightly faster than Tekken. If you're wondering, I'm a female.

If anyone have played this game, what was your first Dead or Alive game? When you first played it, what was your first expression about it and who do you main at the moment? If you have more to say, how did you get into the Dead or Alive series?

I first played Dead or Alive 3 on the Xbox. And I loved it.
It was fast, sexy, and crisp. I first played as Gen Fu. I remember grabbing and throwing Leifang into the air and then catching her like a gentleman! I was very happy with this game.

Dead or Alive is more mature than Tekken.
With clean hits (no explosions) and believable characters I prefer Dead or Alive over Tekken.

I wondered if Dead or Alive 5 would be any good since Tomonobu Itagaki left Team Ninja. It looks like they did it justice, but I rank it the lowest on my DOA list. I enjoy Dead or Alive 3 just as much now as I did when I first played it.

My first DOA was Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore. I'm not a big fighting game fan and I've been a Sony guy from the beginning with the PS1, so I haven't had a chance to play many of the DOA games (since 3 and 4 were only on XBox and XBox 360 respectively). I haven't played any of the spin-off games (Beach Volleyball, Beach Volleyball 2, Paradise) for obvious reasons.

As I said above, I'm not a fighting game fan (mainly because I am very terrible at them) so the only two series I really play are Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive. The main thing I enjoy about DOA is that it doesn't take a whole lot of crazy button combo's to do cool stuff. I'm not saying that there is no skill needed to play the game, I'm just saying that even someone who sucks at fighting games (like myself) can at least have interesting matches.

I also agree with Zraster that I kind of enjoy the 'realism' of the series. The characters look like they are fighting each other due to the clean movements and punches/kicks/throws. For the most part, there aren't people flying around with angel wings and shooting energy balls at each other or whatever. Another big draw are the environmental arena's where you can knock fighters off of bridges and over railing and such.

I don't have a particular character that I always go to since I haven't played many of the games in the series. In DOA5 I mostly used either Rigg (since he's a fellow Canadian), Mila (since I like the way she looks and her more 'realistic' fighting style) or Ryu (since I'm a Ninja Gaiden fan and he's awesome).

I actually have a video of me playing a few matches in DOA5 on GendouTV for anyone that is interested and/or wants to see me get my butt handed to me by Normal Level CPU's.

My first official Dead or Alive game was "Dimensions" for the 3DS.

When Dead or Alive 5 was announced, I scrambled to purchase a collector's edition online, mainly because I wanted the artbook. To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed by the artbook.

Fortunately, the gameplay and graphics of Dead or Alive 5 compensated for my disappointment in the artbook. Initially, I wasn't used to the new, realistic character designs, especially in terms of their faces, but like everyone else, I eventually adapted and grew to like them.

My main would be Kokoro and Tina. The former specializes in direct hits, while the latter can surprise opponents with her throws.

My very first Dead or Alive game was Dead or Alive 2 back on the ps2. I used to use Kasumi all the time and still do. She will forever be my favorite Dead or Alive character. I have only played 3 Dead or Alive games altogether as I don't own an xbox 360. I have played Dead or Alive 2 (PS2), Dead or Alive 5 (PS3) and Dead or Alive Dimensions (3DS). Planning to get Dead or Alive 5 plus for the VITA sometime in the future.

I prefer Dead or Alive over Tekken because the fighting style is much easier and I just couldn't get used to the Tekken fighting style when I first played it on the PS3. Dead or Alive 2 was one of those first game I got for the ps2 and I loved it ever since. Too bad I lost the game during the moving few years ago along with some other good games I had owned before :(
