Can someone answer this question? I'm sure many of you have the same problem. How can you keep your anime when your parents are so against them? Here is my situation: I have been watching Saiyuki since the last days of our summer vacation, and now that school's here in the Philippines, my parents are limiting our TV viewing. They let us watch Saiyuki though, but they are always against them, always reminding us to study. Yes, it's always salutatorian this, salutatorian that. Our teachers always expect big things from us honors, especially me because they are expecting me to be like my sister, who is the valedictorian in the second year. I don't really care if my parents hate anime, but how do you explain that somehow they're good for you? I've already tried saying that Saiyuki is good because it is based on the Chinese novel "Journey to the West" but it didn't work... You can post your questions too, if you have any... Ja mata ne! = )
The more you learn, the more you know, the more you know, the more you forget...so WHY LEARN AT ALL???...P.S. Am I banned? Wah.

Oh wow, I haven't been in the Philippines since I was 6. Well, I think the best thing you can do is keep trying to explain to your parents that anime is really something you really enjoy. Tell them that sometimes life really isn't about grades and honors. You have to have some enjoyment in your life ,so you don't start to think there's nothing more to life than grades. Or you can show them that even though you're watching that anime, it's not affecting your grades because Saiyuki offers some history in it that you can learn from... I hope that helps you a little! |

I would ditto what ãƒŠã‚µãƒ¼ãƒ‹ã‚¨ãƒ«å› has said. The same thing with my parents except they threaten to throw away all my anime but then when i sat down and had a long chat they understand. Maybe you should sit down with your parents wheither they like it or not and talk with them...hope this doesn't sound too corny! XD

well...since in second year high school we study Asian history...I'm kinda learning about the topography of Asia (deserts, etc.) by watching Saiyuki coz they pass through all those places, right? And right after I get home I study at once so I'm kinda "pushing" my rest time to the time when anime is shown.

or you could put it in a language that you don't understand and put the subtitles to go fast and tell your parents that it improves your reading capabilities....it works for me in both ways learning and it puts humor in the anime XD

Thanks God my parents are understanding! But it kinda suck when my grades went bad... They lock up all my CDs! Here in Indonesia, they separate the highschool class to IPA and IPS. When I got that IPA class (many people said it's better than the other one), my parents just went BOOM!!! and they'll buy me a 100 more CD!!! For the solution... I think you should gamble with your parents... Example : If you have good grades, they'll understand you and... etc. |

I had the same problem when I was still back in the Philippines...well, now that i'm thinking about it they're still against it... in someway. I also posted a thread about that kind of problem...but mine was all about if you were ever asked to stop liking or watching animé and just grow up..."have you ever been asked...?" that's my thread, it's in the Others section... Why don't you show them that even you're watching animé you can still maintain your grades and not neglecting them...You should also show them that you could or you have learned something from animé...you know, like about Physics, General Knowledge, Science, History, Geography, Language, Literature and such... I do that with my parents...I just tell them. "Oh! I learned that from Chrno Crusade and it's an animé. You sure can learn a thing or two from watching animé" ^_^ <-with matching face! well, hope it helps...see yah
^_^v PEACE OUT!

I have some questions to you before I reply a TRUE answer/solution for your problem. Can you reply it wit full details September_Rain? 1. Does your parents love to watch TELENOVELAs, Chinovelas, Korean Novelas, or any Drama Series in GMA or ABS-CBN? 2. Does your parents watch those said shows above before doing their work in your house? 3. Do you like studying your school lessons than watching ANIME Series on TV? 4. Do you have alternative plans in order to watch those Anime Series without affecting your study or lessons in schools? 5. I don't like to give 4 questions in a Survey. But my Fifth Question is "Does your parents join you in watching ANIME Series in your house? You may answer those questions in order to me to help you. (NARANASAN KO NA RIN YAN SISTER/BROTHER) (~_~)_V Ruy Lopez OK Ba? |

Gaah! At last it's Friday. I finally got connected to the computer again. Thanks guys for posting your replies!!! You know what, I really shouldn't care about what my parents think about anime, as long as they let us watch them. They're kinda getting used to us watching anime, too. To ruy: 1. My parents don't watch them. My mom isn't interested and my dad prefers watching cable TV saying those telenovelas are "bakya" or "cheap" (but one time I caught him watching those old FPJ movies on Cinema One). 2. They only watch "Magandang Umaga,Pilipinas" before going to work and "TV Patrol" at dinnertime. The rest that they watch are from cable channels. 3. I usually arrive at home at around 5:30 and since the anime that I'm watching is at 6:00, I just let time pass. I can always wake up early the next day to study the topics I did'nt review last night. 4. I only watch anime for 30 minutes everyday, so my studies aren't affected. Also, the valedictorian was getting lower scores than my scores this week. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! 5. Sometimes they join me and my sis in watching anime, which for some reason, makes me feel quite uncomfortable. Anyway, for Saiyuki fans in the Philippines, Saiyuki Reload Gunlock will end on Monday, July 11. They really emphasized that this was the LAST episode in the next episode preview portion. I'M SO SAD I WANNA CRY!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! MY DEAR SANZO-IKKOU, DON'T LEAVE MEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! = (
