All Things Boogiepop
|
'K, I looked through the entire forum, and NOBODY has written a word about Boogiepop Phantom. Am I the only one who knows about it? It's a supernatural/horror series, multi-layered and one of the most original stories I've seen in a while. HAS ANYONE SEEN IT?! For more info, go to: http://mostlycloudy.net/~ballzapalooza/boogiepop/ http://boogiepop.home.att.net/ |

Yeah. I bought DVDs one through four (I think that's all there is?), but I've only been able to watch the first episode so far. I really like it though. Horror anime/manga usually attracts me the most. |

I bought the box set awhile ago 'cause it was super cheap. It's been at least a year since I sat down and watched it, but I did enjoy it muchly - for all that it DID confuse me at the time. Ah, and the inspired-by music that came with it was so lovely. |

The original story of Boogiepop comes from Japanese novelist Kadono Kouhei. He wrote a series of "Boogiepop" books, illustrated by Ogata Kouji. Later, a movie was made of the first book, "Boogiepop and Others". The movie has been subbed, and I believe dubbed, and can be purchased at the Right Stuf International website. Also, a two-book manga was made of the first novel, also illustrated by Ogata. The titles of the novels are WEIRD: Boogiepop Never Laughs (or Boogiepop and Others) Boogiepop Returns vs. Imaginator Part 1 "SIGN" Boogiepop Returns vs. Imaginator Part 2 "PARADE" Boogiepop in the Mirror Pandora Boogiepop Overdrive: Heartbreaker II Boogiepop of Dawn Boogiepop Missing: Peppermint Wizard Boogiepop Countdown: The Embryo first half EROSION Boogiepop Wicked: The Embryo second half ERUPTION Boogiepop Paradox: Heartless Red Boogiepop Unbalance: Holy and Ghost Boogiepop Staccato: Welcome to the Jinx Shop There's also a three-part series about a composite human (watch the seires) named Beat. It also has something to do with Boogiepop; she can be seen on the cover of the first Beat book. Beat's Disipline Side 1: Exile Beat's Disipline Side 2: Fracture Beat's Disipline Side 3: Providence There was another two-book manga, not illustrated by Ogata, called Boogiepop Dual, which I know next to nothing about. The "Inspired By" album is actually music from the movie. It's by Kajiura Yuki, who did the soundtracks to the .hack// series, Noir, Madlax, and others. The bonus track is a mix of a classical piece by Richard Wagner, played during the preview for the next episode in the anime series. This same track can be found on a single that also features a version of the song that Boogiepop herself whistles. The actual OST to the series is weird. The music is strange and mostly not very listenable. Over half the music from the series is missing from the OST, including the opening and ending themes, "Yuudachi" and "Mirai Seiki Maruhi Kurabu". A few of the songs on the OST aren't found anywhere in the series or even as extras on the DVDs. I own and love both albums, as well as the opening and ending theme. ^-^ Interestingly enough, the Japanese title of the first book, two-book manga, movie, and anime series is the same: "ブギーãƒãƒƒãƒ—ã¯ç¬‘ã¯ãªã„" (Boogiepop wa Warawanai), "Boogiepop Never Laughs". ...and that is why I have no life. -_- One last thing: for those of you who liked Boogiepop Phantom, try Serial Experiments Lain. It's not quite in the same leagure as Boogiepop, but it's a well thought out horror/sci-fi strain-your-brain anime series. |

Wow, you have certainly done your homework! ^__^ Weren't the creators of Boogiepop and Lain the same? I could be mistaken. If I remember, they were known for bringing "out of the ordinary" concepts... but were widely taken all the same. I couldn't find a copy of that in my country; I've been dying to watch it since I've read a few reviews. Sigh.

I don't think the creators of Lain and Boogiepop are the same, although the creators of Lain have done something else recently...forgot what it was called. I only started watching Lain because so many people who had seen Boogiepop said, "yeah, it reminds me of Serial Experiments Lain"...and I was in Suncoast and had money. As to having done my homework, I'm sorry if I bugged anyone by adding such a long post...-_- The sad thing is that I wrote most of that off the top of my head. |
